LCD 10 [/tt] I am not really satisfied with the buttons: i want to use snap in round buttons but those 16mm dia. are a bit too big LCD source is missing but i can fix that later on maybe juat snatch a deal on eBay, hints are very welcome Anybody could fetch for me those snap in inserts with adhesive base to fix pcbs on any surface without screws? (Conrad international seems to be offline) Any idea where i can find LCD bezels? Simone EDIT: the pactec enclosure wasn t a PT08 and it doesn t fit my needs either; looking for another one, i d like to use audio and midi sockets diirectly from the pcbs so i need that the rear panel is wide enough for a SID board and a CORE board ie: 146mm

Hallo i ve just organized a little Linux/free software workshopi managed to collect unexpected interest from people so i decided to go forward and organize a free hardware workshop of course based on a Midibox project. A monoSID was my choice cause it is the most appealing project to "normal" people opposed to the common MIDI geek. The idea behind the SID4all project is to help people with no or little experience on electronics to build their own little SID box. The organization (we get money from the local government) will also offer to pay 50% of the material used, so calculating around 100 euros for the whole thing i will offer the participants 50 Euros fee entry for the project.(As long as you ll be in Tenerife, Canary Islands,Spain between the 15th and the 22nd of November you are very welcome to ask for participating, the places are limited though). About the box i am still deciding how it s going to be but the pactec found at Conrad.de with part number 541346 seems to be a good starting point; the whole project has to be pretty easy so the CS will be very minimalistic (just a STEP A) but the box will let the participants to add CS elements and/or a SID module after the workshop. The workshop will be held during the week days before the event (22nd of November), during the event pictures, videos and the final "products" will be presented. I ll keep this thread updated with all the brainstorming involved but i am really looking forward for the input from the community this is the "venue" for the event although i am looking for an appropriate place for the workshop (the university or a technical school) ..soon i ll post the BOM and the enclosure details Simone

i don t take it seriously ;), i was not aware of the issue with kubuntu and xp, i usually use gnome. @Jidis just get any distro and use Xfce as desktop manager, it s very lightweight @ganchan, nils: to restore a working mbr it may be enough to boot from a linux cd/dvd see this tutorial: http://microdotsagamedev.wordpress.com/2007/06/08/repair-your-grub-loader/

i got a spare ddr pc2100 512 megs

i think it is a bit unfair, especially if you also say: that would be like going to Kubuntu forum and write "i ve tried to build a midibox but it didn t work, don t build a midibox!". If you don t want war then don t throw the first stone! ;) Simone

mine is 4200 but it does his job, this is not my DAW, just our home computer with all your work here you should put a donate (spare parts for pc) button in your profile

i have abandoned my posture against some OSes, i am here just to say what i like to use, it may not fit other people s needs, but really, i am blown away by my little new Linux machine and would advice anybody to try the switch, you know it s open source it fits perfectly the spirit of this community. in fact over 50% of what you see it s either second hand stuff or recycled stuff, the pc under the desk is a machine built with stuff i ve found on the street and got for free. By using a laptop hard drive and supplying the fan with the 3.3 voltage section plus a little trimmer i got a far more silent machine than most of commercial unit you can buy nowadays. Simone

hi i have to say that i am really really impressed by the latest linux-desktop development. I ve recently bought a Dell D410 and after 30 minutes of install (Ubuntu) i got a fully machine working and i mean: drivers (also for wifi), all the function buttons on the laptop, audio, brigthness with nice GUI, dual head, hibernate and suspend (just a little bit slower than my Powerbook on suspend on lid closing). With a few clicks i got all the extra applications i use: Amarok, vlc, vnc, etc And a completely configurable desktop enviroment have a look at this: i know it s just eyecandy, pretty fun though i am also using a Fedore Core 8 and xfce with the PlanetCCRMA repositories for audio and i am discovering a real new (modular) world on the other end i find my little Powerbook a nearly perfect machine inside and outside, especially for audio Simone and his 2 cents

/cimo dries up bubbles of saliva dripping from his mouth :P

If you print at home (i do cause no one here will print on PnP) then just hit the print button!! If you use the export to image then you should use the maximum dpi specified in the printer but eps is waaay better and safer.

i had the same exact thought: this man s gonna change the world, doh!
