  1. Which Rapid part number did you get? I think we might haver different ones, by the sound of it. If the otehr flat topped ones are good, I'll fit them to my Wilbabeast. Best wishes
  2. Sasha That panel is high art - I love it. Wonderful work!
  3. Strd and Wilba are right. I did an 8x8 display panel with some surplus blue LED's. Looks good as kinetic art, but staring at one, even on dim is not good. Green or red - the military spent a fortune testing this for us...... Using a panel in low light on stage, blue is just going to impair your ability to read your other stuff. If you really want to get fancy, then save the cash for an inverse LCD. I bought some supposedly diffused 3mm flat tops from Rapid - they still looked like a tiny bright spark in a block of red plastic. My advice with Flat-tops is definitely try before you buy. The good ones seem to have some kind of fresnel lens in the plastic to give a good even light effect, which is why they are more expensive. I'll get more samples and post some pics. BTW I have batch of retro style chrome bezel 10mm reds if anybody wants some. The LED's can be swapped out for other colours. If anyone is interseted I'll post a pic in the fleamarket.
  4. My shuttles docked today. They look good. Thanks again.
  5. Some of you scurvy knaves might need this: Pirate Translator I may have done this beforarrrrr, but real pirates might need:
  6. If it's not too late, I would like to buy 3 Thanks
  7. Dr Bunsen you are a great man - thank you so much for posting that. A friend has a faulty one, and now I can have ago at fixing it. Years ago, he couldn't get a diagram or details, but I threatened him with mayhem if he got rid of it, (to anyone but me of course). He's a total C64 nut, (he quailed when I told him about ripping SIDs, but forgave me when I told him what for - especially when I did the dual SID thing for his Prophet 64). Thanks again
  8. .Loop "Stryd - It's me, Dave, I got the stuff" GOTO Loop © Cheech and Chong .... errr .... a long time ago.
  9. Now they'll all be doing it..... Edited to add, if you haven't seen it already, http://xkcd.com/ is a must for your RSS.
  10. You're right. Thanks folks. Funnily enough, in my master list here, it's 6MHz, (I was getting them from Rapid), but I misread the BOM spreadsheet, and thought it was an 8, when I typed out the parts list. I'll update the text file now. I've had a few things to sort out here, but I'll get this one 'back on the stove' properly, next week.
  11. I think I'd save the $50 towards one of these: http://www.elby-designs.com/pixie/pixie-about.htm The PCB with processor mounted is Au$87. It's a nice tribute panel, but I'd save that type of artwork for the Pixie. I've repaired a couple of real wasps, One huge PCB, and a number of bits that can get very temperamental! The Pixie is probably a better bet, in use, than the real thing, unless your were into doing free form effects with the touch keyboard.
  12. We've just seen the last of Tony B Liar. Just a thought, has anyone got a decent premier?
  13. And style! don't forget that.
  14. Is that a cannabis leaf in his top pocket? might account for a few things if it was.....
  15. last thought. Is it worth having a look at BUF602 ?
  16. Checking the TI website shows 3 stockholders, but sadly no P variants. Could you adapt to the heavy duty or SMD versions? See TI BUF 634 page. Hope this helps
  17. I bought a sample one of each. I'll post details, but I can say now that the LED's are quite dim in some of them, and they a dual LED's, needing 2 feeds. I had to buy a batch, because the Rapid site doesn't pair the parts numbers with the pictures. I'll try and do something this weekend. They still have the ROHS ones cheap too..
  18. If tolerance is not a serious issue, Rapid have a Trucap variant in 10%. trucap Mylar from Rapid I'm ordering from them this weekend, if that's any use.
  19. Probably about 10/14 days time - you just missed the last one. If you want anything else, let me know By the way - two people have now asked if we are brothers... (pretty rare second name, I do have to say). the answer would have to be 'genetically no, but in spirit yes'
  20. Following various people's advice in a previous thread, particularly Stryd's, I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD25's. I'm very impressed.
  21. Try: [http://uk.farnell.com/1198322/passives/product.us0?sku=PANASONIC-ECQB1104JF/url] I'll put some on my next order for you if you like. How many do you need, if It's just a few, I may have them Nothing magic, just 5% 100nF mylar/polyesters Hope this helps
  22. I had some older AKG's (can't remember the number - my brother still has them 'on loan'). They were 600 Ohm too. I used to run them off a line amp, and they sounded very good indeed. On a normal hifi headphone output they often used to get the amp clipping before they got very loud. Quite old school. I still rate German headphones as the best. It seems to alternate between Sennheiser and Beyer for me.
  23. Idea. Get one of those CD capable inkjet printers. Put a suitable acrylic disc in the hole. Print your quadrature patterns on to the disc, then cut it down to the right size. Rather than a slot type opto, it may be better to print onto something reflective, (like maybe an old CD), and use that as the sensor disc, with reflective opto coupling. One last thought. Could the HP 'disc tattoo' type CD burner be of use here? The idea being bigger disc = less critical spacing. Just a couple of thoughts Mike
  24. I've been getting the same, though with varying error messages - all 'out of memory' but different line numbers. Last 2 weeks it seems to me.
