  1. ERSA RDS 80 and ANALOG 60 are definitely playing in another class than the Weller WHS. You cant compare them. That would be the Weller WSD81. They´re more than double the price of the WHS series, have more power and various different soldering tips. If you go for the WHS, save the money and take the analog. The digital display is just a gimmick. IMO, WHS 40 is definitely sufficient for soldering a midibox and doing most kind of electronics. It´s not the most powerful iron though but as always you get what you pay for and you´re not soldering big parts... Get the thin tip (extra part) and a 0,5mm to 0,75mm solder with lead. SN60PB40 or similar. Thats not very healthy but far easier to solder, coz you dont need high temperatures...
  2. I think (not totally sure though) the biggest problem is the resolution of the midi protocol resp. the datastream it can handle. As far as i know it just not fast enough to handle controller data like this flawlessly. IMO that´s one of the reasons the ns7 and the other itch controllers have a proprietary hardware implementation. But thats wild guessing...so better ask T.K.
  3. They seem to be a bit pricey though. I quickly hacked my data in their webcalculator and got a higher price with thinner material compared to schaeffer...to be fair i should have installed their frontpanel designer. Might differ from webcalc...
  4. Consider buying a Weller WHS40. You get it cheap at Reichelt. It´s way better than every non temperature regulated iron. You need a thin soldering tip though which is a spare part (about 3 euros). I am doing all my stuff with it and it´s just fine. Of course a ERSA Analog60 would be better, but as longs as it´s not for everyday use you will be satisfied with the whs...
  5. Hi, while planing my MB64 i noticed significant changes in board measurements when comparing the downloadable DIN, PIC CORE and LTC eagle files to the delivered boards from smashTV. P.e. the latest available .brd of the pic core is mbhp_core_v3.brd while Tim uses v. r4d. DIN R5 board exceeds the width of R4 by 5mm. Holes have diff. positions, etc. I understand that this is not a big deal with big cases but when trying to build as small as possible it might be better to know exactly. So, is there a place where i could get them? That would be handy since i am importing them into my CAD to get an impression of the positions in the box. Thank you, Alex
  6. Thank you janis, i must have overlooked that when reading the docu yesterday...
  7. Hey guys, just a short question. There are 3 different 18Fxxx Pics that could be ordered at smash. When building a standard M64 with GM5 USB and 16/2 LCD could i use everyone of them? thank you :)
  8. Are you kiddin me? God damn, looks so great. I got it´s bigger brother right next to me :-)
  9. Who in Europe wants them? 50$ shipping...jezz.... and i only need 8 :p
  10. Phil, thank you. I wouldnt say "only" seq4 had been released. I always wonder how much TK manages to develop in the more or less frequent periodes i browse the pages...incredible work... in this case i probably stick with the PIC Box or try to refresh my very basic c knowledge from university but i just dont know where to start...even when reading the good documentation i feel lost :)
  11. Hey guys, i am sorry to ask a probably very dumb question but honestly i am not deep enough into it and can´t find the answer myself. Is the new Core32 combatible to all the MBHP Projects so far or is it for SEQv4 only at the moment? E.g. could i build a MB64E with it "out of the box" or is a new firmware needed? As far as i understood one of the big advantages of the Core32 is that no assembler skills are needed to develop a FW, am i right? Why dont build a 64E with the "old" PIC then? Well I just wanna know :-) Anyway i like the sexyniess of the native USB support and NEW technology :p Thank you, Alex
  12. Bomes Miditranslator in der neuesten Version mit virtuellen Ports?
  13. Hi dudes, time to contribute a little. Well...i dunno if its such a great tip but while searching the forums i came across heaps of posts where people were looking for jogwheels fitting their needs. There are jogwheels on the market from alps and farnell...but they´re made of hard plastic (old denon cdplayers style) and not very handy when it comes to djing. most of our species prefer those rubber soft touch dials but where to get them. well i got this pioneer efx 500 effect unit at home which has exactly the jog wheel i ever wanted...not to big (like the Jogs on the tabletop cd players), not to small like the plastic denons and with a rubber soft touch feeling. i decided to disassemble it and look whether it could fit my needs or not. Other options would be the jogs of the Xone 3D as well as the gemini and reloop rack cdplayers. Thats the effect unit...jog on the right without the jog plate....the white ring stabilizes the jog while use..the outer black ring is used for optical reasons and glued to the case. diameter of the plate is 85mm backside of the plate. for a 6mm D shape poti shaft.... white ringe...to stabilize the jog.. ...measuring.... inner case: i was really suprised as i saw that the jog is mounted on a very small and cheap encoder with a plastic shaft particularly because the jog is very very stable and you can really abuse it... After that disassembly i decided to use that jogwheel for my project but without leaving my EFX500 unusable. The good news is that you can order every pioneer part as a single spare part. The bad news is...they´re expensive and the white ring is hardly available. Where to get them: In Germany @ EtuS Landgraf, in other countries at the pioneer spare parts dealer who is listed on the pioneer website.. The numbers are as follows (prices excl. tax): Plate: DNK 3597, 14,31€ White Ring: DNK 3598, 2,85€ Outer Ring: DNK 3595, 11,04€ Well...thats a lot for one jog, but you dont need the outer ring for sure. you cant even use it...(needs a plastic case with a lil cavity) It would be good to have the white ring. If you cant get it it works out perfect without as well or you can build one yourself. remains the plate. i prefered to buy it instead of spending hours building one myself. but thats up to you. :-) as i mentioned before. you could try asking other companies. i wrote to reloop, gemini, allen&heath as well but never got an answer...the pioneer service responded after a day. so....may you can use this tip.. have fun alex
  14. well its working with the acrobat pro version. I usually use that for archiving websites..its working (just tried it) but you need to rework it to achieve a proper result. The wiki is so complex that you probably need a few days...
  15. Hi, sorry for reanimating this old topic...but it exactly covers my question :-) What i wanna know is if this problem had been solved meanwhile and if so...is there someone who implemented it? If not...i gotta order a good Book :P Thank you Alex
  16. Well Roger, its not me ignoring you... i´d say you didnt read my first post accurate ;) That´s the reason why i wrote to farnell "Special Service" to ask them if they could also order and sell the K fader with linear resistance...when offering it already as log type. May they do :) Thanks anyway appreciate it when people trying to help Greetz Alex
  17. well it does help, thx for your posts :-) I wrote them all...waiting for replies at the moment. Hopefully on monday. Farnell has a special service where you can inquire to order a non listed item. So did i with the linear K Fader. They have a min. of 150 Euro, But thats not much when dealing with K Faders. The guys at RS were kind but couldnt help me. Of course they thought about their product portfolio and if there is non linear fader that must have a reason (probably no demand for it) There are some smaller companies. One located here in the sout of munich..they were very kind but said that if they order 10 Faders from ALPS they charge them probably 5 times per piece...means the price is higher than the conrad price. Anyway they wanted to look for some "Restbestände" which lie about somewhere.... I also looked in the fleamarket section...no luck there. So i i cant get them cheap i either buy the expensive Conrad K Faders, but less than planned...*sigh* or stick with the cheaper N faders...i am not sure about the difference though.... Greetz Alex
  18. Hello, well first post here in this cool Forum. Since there is no "hello its me" section..(i am sure there is a good reason for it :-) ) i am posting here and ask my fist parts question. At the moment i am dealing with the "where to get the parts" stuff. I decided to use some quality faders in the Midibox and stick with the ALPS K Faders, maybe the ALPS N Faders (If i cant get the Ks cheap). My problem now is where to get those in Germany for a fair price. After comparing several vendors it turned out that there are heavy differences. Conrad sells for 29,- per item, Farnell and RS-Components sell for 12,- per item. The Problem with Farnell and RS ist that they only sell the log. Faders...not the linear Faders. So may you got an idea where to get them. Albs.de is probably more expensive than Conrad is. Thanx for your help. Alex
