  1. Hi. I meant to do this a couple days ago but Here it is. I should probably put this in the wiki but I am too lazy to figger' it out right now (hard days work and everything) Earlier this week I was looking for which knob went to which pad because I'm building my own CS. I built a rough copy and traced the knobs back to the DIN pads on the PCB. I know this will be helpful to someone at some point. I just put the generic functions. Clearly each engine has it's own specifications and they are all a little different, but you'll be able to get the gist of it for planning purposes from this. If somebody sees any mistakes Pipe Up! JD1: D6/D7 = Menu D4/D5 = LFO Depth D2/D3 = Envelope Release D0/D1 = LFO Rate JD2: D6/D7 = Envelope Sustain D4/D5 = Oscillator Release D3/D2 = Envelope Decay D0/D1 = Oscillator Sustain JD3: D6/D7 = Envelope Attack D4/D5 = Oscillator Decay D2/D3 = Envelope Depth D0/D1 = Oscillator Attack JD4: D7/D6 = Filter Resonance D5/D4 = Oscillator Decay D2/D3 = Filter Cutoff D0/D1 = ???? Wiki'd!!!
  2. I Love my Mackie CR 1604. Analog Baby! The old ones should go for around $100 bucks. It's built like a tank, a managable size and sounds great! (maybe a little old school noise) Plenty of aux send ands returns. There is an issue with the main outputs (try google and RTFM!) if you are using balanced outputs the tip and the ring are reversed so you have to switch them on your cables, but that is not a problem for any of you tech savvy midi boxers :sorcerer: The VLZ and the VLZ Pro don't have this problem though. Good Luck! I should mention the problem with the behringer is no headroom. I can't speak for all of them but I have the Xenyx 802 (that is my submixer for the MB6582) and there is absolutely no headroom. Not to mention crappy sounding Eq compared to my Mackie. I didn't notice it when I didn't have anything else, but after I brought it out of retirement to submix for my SID synth, I notice a big difference.
  3. Thanks. I didn't think of that.
  4. What does NRPN and LSB mean?
  5. Thanks Nils. Yeah I read that stuff a bunch of times... I just don't understand it :( I guess that means I have to go in to the coding. I was dreading that. Oh well. I figgered out how to build this thing. I just don't trust the interface to my computer. Or my Computer. I guess I won't get any stupider by trying.
  6. Thanks for this guys!!! This Machine is Awesome!!! :frantics: Thanks for inventing it and coding it and building it and Sharing it and putting up with my asinine introduction and helping me with my questions!!! TK, Nils and Wilba, :sorcerer: You guys Rock! and everyone else that answered my questions or that previously asked a question I needed an answer for or made me laugh and just helped me to learn etc... I may be a little thick but I am having trouble figuring out how to assign a different function to a knob. I've read the manual but I can't quite decipher what I need to do. For the Bassline engine I would like to do away with the Osc Del knob (what does that do exactly? I've never seen Oscillator delay on a synth before) and replace it with DcA or Acc (Cause they are awesome and would be really nice to have right up front!) Can I reassign that knob from inside the MB6582 or do I have to change the code with my computer? I got the impression that It should be easy to do from inside the MB6582, I just couldn't quite figure that out from reading the manual. I'm pretty handy figgerin' my way around the menus and the synth engines (with lots of help from the manual) and I'm passable @ electronics but I still don't understand this computer and even midi CC stuff too great. All my gear is hardware...
  7. It's gonna take longer to figure out how to use it then it did to build it!!!; )

  8. Thanks for the fast response. I think these are just for the buttons and LEDs...? That's how I built the matrix, but now I'm wiring up the encoders. Am I missing something?
  9. I'm working on the mod matrix... s there a list or schemo for which pads go to which encoders? I'm taking the detents out, then I am figuring out how to wire the encoders up, (My own CS based on Wilbas...) I haven't been able to find which encoder goes where.
  10. rebuilt MB6582! works!!!! building Mod Matrix....

  11. Can you bridge the traces between the resistor networks? When I was cleaning up I scratched a few places and the solder mask scratched off. I noticed that there was metal under it. Could this have anything to do with my voltages?
  12. Hi. Good to be back! My internet was down for a few weeks. Alright. I pulled and installed correctly all the resistor networks and gleefully hit the on switch and.... Nothing!!! I checked the voltages and now I'm only getting .3V instead of 5. The PSU is giving me 6V but by the time it gets to J3 it's only .3V. In circuit the diode gives the right readings and everything looks to be soldered correctly... Any thoughts on what to check next? I wasn't doing any fiddling around up in the power section and I was getting 5V before I pulled the resistor networks...
  13. Well I got'em pulled without lifting any pads but the cleanup is gonna be bastard. The first time I pulled'em it went smooth but the second time is always more tenuous... something about the plasticity of the solder. These ain't the first ic's I've pulled. Thanks
  14. You know what? I had the bottom row in right the first time but then I pulled them and put them in backwards!! :pinch: I misunderstood and in my hurry to "fix" it I put all the white dots facing R30  So I just pulled them all and it's a mess cause it seems like my iron kept cooling off. Must be time for a new one. I guess this one doesn't owe me anything. I had a lot more trouble pulling them this time then last time. It's too late for me to concentrate on cleaning this up right now but I'll put them back in the correct way 2mw. Good thing I got extras! Pulling ICs and multipin components is not for the faint of heart... Hopefully I'll be up and running then! Thanks Wilba :flowers:
  15. Ok. I switched them around. It's still the same. If I take out the ic 74HC165 from JD1 or JD2 the screen says: E002|PInt Ld Chn. 1 1***|Lead Patch I think that's right? But I touched up all the joints around those two and their resistor networks and it is still clones the slaves and takes me to the oscillator screen if I have both of ic's in. P.s. While pulling the resistor networks I lifted the track that goes between JD1 D4 and the fifth pin of the resistor network. I'll make sure I have that connected with a bus wire or something.
  16. Alright. The resistor networks on the top are in right but the ones on the bottom are in backwards... I guess I'll switch them out first. These PCBs are very nice. The solder flows right through the holes. Unfortunately it makes it tough to pull components out  I'll update once that is done. Thanks
  17. I was getting feedback when I uploaded the cores... and I used Mios studio 2... I'll check out some more this afternoon and get back. Thanks!
  18. I don't even have a control surface. I'm waiting till I get the meat and bones figured out before I start messin' with the marrow. So I do have all the PICs in. I uploaded the V2 firmware in each one separately so they should be good. I'll try it without the slaves in. I know R80 is in there. I'll check around the 74hc165. I am not positive that the resistor networks are in correctly... so I'll check that too. J11 doesn't seem to have any effect... I couldn't figure that out but maybe that's a red flag for something? I was having trouble getting the PICs to send midi out so maybe once I get this stuff sorted out that will sort itself out too... Thanks for your replies. I'll post up again when I have checked all this stuff out.
  19. Gettin back to my MB6582... time to stop slackin. still troubleshootin' (ugh)

  20. 'Hi. Everytime I start my MB6582 the LCD says "cloning slaves" and goes up to slave2 then "waiting for reset" then it resets and takes me to the oscillator screen. Then there is very quiet noise and if I turn everything up I can very faintly hear SID2 when I play the keyboard and noise. I guess I have to deal with the startup before i get to the SID... Would this be the soldering? It's a pretty clean solder job and I touched up a couple questionable joints and ran a screwdriver in between a lot of them. Maybe a misplaced component? Or is it a PIC problem? I have done the standard stuff for troubleshooting. I'm kinda stuck now. Any suggestions?
  21. took a little break, got a couple days off work Need to get back to my MB6582

  22. Guess it's back to the drawing board then! My mini matrix didn't work either but that could be because The board isn't right yet. Funny thing is midi on channel 1 works (quietly) on module 1 and midi channel 3 works for module 3. As in I can hear the SIDs. I can hear noise from the second module too. I just have no control over them. I'm thinking I'll start a new general troubleshooting thread. Guess it's time to strap on the old reading glasses and the spelunking helmet and get deep. Oh well. At least I ain't gettin' any stupider. Thanks
  23. Oops! I need to add diodes in between the switches of my mini matrix! Could be why it ain't workin'. I saw the LEDs and thought I'd just leave them out and I can deal with the DOUT after I get the main functions functioning. They serve a function besides just looking pretty though. Ha Ha That's what rushing and not thinking will get you. I have a note to myself on my worktable that says "If you take a careful minute you could save a sloppy hour." Guess I ought to read it more often. BTW Mios 2.1 worked great. It held the upload and waited for me to reboot the MB6582. That's Brilliant!!! :sorcerer: There must be something wrong with the board (ie:the way it was assembled...) Once I get this new board fully functional I can use it as a reference to troubleshoot the assembled one I got that is not receiving uploads. This is the second CS I built and forgot to use diodes. It just came to me reading someone else's post! I guess it's a good thing I'm prototyping these CS  Question: On my new board, everytime I boot it up it says (on the lcd) cloning slaves, then only mentions core2 then resets. Is this normal behavior?
