napierzaza
I just moved apartments and was shocked to see that the LCD screen for my under-construction Stereo SID was smashed. I'm wondering where the best place for buying a 20x2 LCD would be. I'd like it to ship to Canada really cheaply if possible! I had all my parts together and this is a big set-back if it's going to cost 50$ for me to get my SID going.
ilmenator
I'd search on eba*. It should not cost you more than US$20 incl. shipping.Best regards, ilmenator

Shadyman
I usually check out 411 Tech Systems first,They've got a 20x4 for $10.99, and ship to Canada.(Be ready to expect the usual $5 inspection fee at the border)

joewhat
Hi, I could need a little tip or direction on what to look for when buying an LCD for the setup...(maybe i should tell that im building a MBSIDv2 stero setup) I tried out the recommend reichelt elektronics for europe buyers... but they have this crazy extra fee when shipping only one item to my country(Denmark) so... my first question is how low can i go in terms of character counts.. will 16x2 do it? and what else should i be looking for when buying one? STN mode..? HD44780 parallel interface will connect fine with the core...? Im very new to elektronics.. but i like to read and learn... :0) any directions of information is much appreciated right now im looking at these once... http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=256http://dk.farnell.com/everbouquet/mc2002d-syl/lcd-module-alphanumeric-2x20-stn/dp/1220437http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=
philetaylor
Hi.I use Farnell (in the UK) for many of my components. They offer a reasonable trade-off between cost and product range and they have a reasonable minimum order for free delivery (20UKP). I don't know what they are like in Denmark but the MC2002D that you list is about 12UKP from Farnell here so quite reasonable. By the time you have added connectors etc you should easily get to the minimum order (well I always manage it anyway :) )With the display, 2x20 is the default size for the MBSID but you could probably get away with a 2x16 (Farnell have some for about half the price of the 2x20). I'm not sure if a recompile of the sid app would be required for a smaller display? I tend to go with the biggest display I can afford (or justify) which is probably why my DMX controller has a 4x40 one :)CheersPhil

stryd_one
Or better yet you could use the super duper search I put on the wiki that searches for HD44780 *and* all of the known working compatible chips ;)

woozle
Bought mine on the bay for less than $10 shipped. Lots of options available in one place. I've found myself going there more and more for parts.
