  1. That sure is welcome news Smash :) props to all mb'ers!!
  2. I can send you a AL1401 if need be :) also a AL1101 adc, to see if that works if ya want...:) Yipeee! so ADAT is a go'er!! :D What a mod this is turnin out to be :D Best Dan BTW: As adat is sorted (touch wood ;p), would s/mux capability be possible? which would allow 4 chans of 24/96 audio :)
  3. Hey Pilo... Just wanna try and clear a few things up - all these sblive advances u and Gilles are making - it's hard to keep up!! :P So, am I right in thinking as well as the 8 channel DAC for the additional 8 analog outputs, there also upto 8 analog inputs too? Can these 8 chans of analog i/o be routed thru 2 Alesis AL1401 chips for encoding to ADAT format. Or is there enough digital i/o to use that for the adat side from the get go? Cheers Dan PS: Have a nice hols Gilles!!
  4. Just thought, couldn't that tactex material be used? - as mentioned in this thread: http://www.midibox.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=misc;action=display;num=1060830910 Mebbe u could just place a strip of this under the keys for velocity sensitivity and aftertouch...? Best... Dan
  5. wow gilles!!! :D that all sounds very nice indeed... I also thought that an external breakout box with xlr's/phono's would make perfect sense :) How's about making the adapted analog i/o's balanced connections? I've seen this chip from TI - DRV134PA. It is a balanced line driver IC, more info: http://www-s.ti.com/sc/ds/drv134.pdf Fantastic work!! Best Dan
  6. I see... Keep us posted on further progress :) Can't wait to give this a go soon :D Best Dan
  7. Hey Pilo! Excellent! Well done :) Â What PCB is this? Nice Dan
  8. Thanks for the replies guys :) nILs, the artwork was done with lazertran decal paper. You print the image mirrored, wet it and then slide over the panel before sticking it an oven. This fuses the toner to the surface. I then gave it a few coats of enamel spray, before finishing with fine grade wire woll to give a slightly matter finish...more detailed instructions are included with the paper... Oh, watch out for air bubbles to :P Best Dan
  9. He Guys... Came across this chip from AD, SSM2164. It's PDIP stylee and contains four independent voltage controlled amplifiers... datasheet: http://www.analog.com/productSelection/pdf/ssm2164.pdf of ne use? Perhaps this could even be mios controlled - or have I lost the plot here...:P Dan
  10. yes, works fine :)
  11. Hey Richard... Can't post any pics atm as my web space is down. However, you just open the encoder up, remove the main bit and the copper ring detent is on the top part (where the shaft is) under the encoder wheel...job done. Ye, the inbuilt switch is a very nice bonus and of course can be used like any other switch - just connect as described in the din pdfs... Nice... Dan
  12. Hey T... I guess if I waited a while before cracking open the first one that might still be a worker too...ah well... Okay, one thing I've still got a problem with is that when i switch the psu circuit off, I'm still gettin +5 on the +5 pin and the +14 drops down to a +5 too :/ I have a dual pole switch (4pins) with the +5 lime on one set and the line adjasent to the 9vAC pin on the c64 plug on the other set of pins - as in pdf...the one with that mystery black dot... Best Dan
  13. aha, the C64 psu's I tried are not as pictured...they are fully enclosed as I said, so you can't get to the fuse (or anything) without cracking the base off...I tried this with the last one and it's full of wax or summin :/ They are what came with the original C4 tho and have the din type connector with the 9v ac and 5v dc... Ah well, I think a dedicated psu with sep +15 and +5 outputs would be easier then gettin yet another C64 psu and screwin it up again... * Just fired it up again - pins measured good :) connected back to the psu circuit again, hadnt changed nefin and bingo - we've a +5 and +14 :) just where they should be :) Nice Dan
  14. hey T TO which fuse are you referring too? The C64 psu is fully enclosed. Do you mean to break it open and replace the one inside? Have u got a pic of that? Won't a dbl pole power switch be the same - the ones like found on PC psu's, where theres 4 pins on the switch for connecting the live and neutral wires...this is what i used... Dan
  15. Hey guys... Today i got hold of a old commodore music package that included a big ol 5octave keyboard and a FM 'Sound Expander' module (contains YM3526 chip). I was hoping to also make a controller keybrd outta this and use MIOS to add further functionality... I came across thishttp://atlas.csd.net/~rjwsoft/keybrdcontroller.html - could this be used in conjuction with MIOS ye? Would such features as velocity sensitivity (to start with) be acheivable? Best... Dan PS: Is that YM chip of any use - tracked down the datasheet for it, seems to be the first Yam OPL chip...pretty basic, but mebbe summin init...ya never know :P
  16. Hi... Okay, c64 psu #2 dead now too...:/ T, can u provide some pics or summin (component and tracks side) and also explain the 2 switches u have in the schem along with what that black dot is all about... I dont see where I could wrong - i wired as exactly in that pdf and both times i've ended up with a dead psu after trying the circuit and switchin on the first time. Can any protection be put anywhere to protect the main psu or nefin? These psu's are rare and expensive to come by... Best Dan
  17. Hmmm, hope ur joshin ere but I wern't saying the ones u got were shit or that I was even unhappy with them...i've thanked you enough for the effort into gettin them in the first place... This was just a good deal Ian - no need to be bitter :) Peesh Dan PS: Urs will still be gettin used - don't u worry bout that :)
  18. Hey  ilmenator... I've made enough boxes now to know 9V on a PIC is not a good idea :) So, I guess if I ignore the lower switch (the one with the UBD*) I should be set then.... Best... Dan *UBD - unidentified black dot - Just realised that wudnt be ideal as thered always be 9V flowin in...So, i just lose the vic switch and add a regualr dpdt power switch...
  19. I think they're good fella :) 1/4"/6mm - DType - one and the same... We shall see anyways... Dan
  20. Hey Justin... The knobs i used for my LC are from Sifam - however I found these on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2548702086 200 knobs with a choise of 5 colour caps for uk £9!! They'll do for me :) Best Dan PS: A group buy could be a possibility for these panasonic enocders if peeps are interested - they'd work out at well under a $1 a peice :P
  21. Nice work Pilo - time to ebay a Live soon i think :) Best Dan
  22. Hey.... Today arrived my encoders from a ebay buy - and my oh my are they good :) Soz Ian, ur's are headin to encoder heaven :P... The feel/response of them is excellent - even with the detent removed (which is very easy with these) they work/feel better - no skipping values at all!! And I got a 100 of the beauties for only $24US (plus 15 shipping to Blighty)!! :D Reeeeesult! Peesh dan BTW: the auction has been relisted: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=26211&item=2548904374
  23. aha, the switch/panel i'm usin is frm a ol vic20 tho, it aint a double pole job - only single... is it okay to wire twice to it, surely it is....no? ta Dan
  24. Hey T... In the psu schem for the SID why have u got 2 switches and what does the black dot beside the lower switch represent??? I'm asking as I had a C64 psu and wired as shown in the schem but only used the one switch instead (y would u use 2 switches right) wiring as stated so the one switch had 2 wires in and 2 out. However, summin went wrong cos when i switched on - nothing...no power newhere and one dead psu :( So, now i've got another psu in and wanna get it right this time :) Best Dan
  25. touchwood seems to be good again :) recompiled a new f/w and syxed - been good for an 1hr now :) Best... Dan
