understanding how to configure LEDrings
Steven_C replied to Steven_C's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
don't worry about answering this, (unless it is for others) cos I probably won't fit Ledrings :P -
:+) thanks!

Hey Nat, thanks for organising this! I am interested in either 16 or 32 encoders, but I still haven't worked out how many I really need yet. thanks, from Steve

I think definately you should have common earth, to prevent earth loops, as well as simplicity, but you probably already worked that one out!

Encoder deal part two ( Aussie specially )
Steven_C replied to Ian_Hurlock's topic in Parts Questions
No worries, Ian, I'll email that .syx to you tomorrow, with a short description of which configurations I have changed. If anyone else wants it, then that is fine too. (send me a private message) I am still running mios v1.2, as I had problems with 1.3 (faders were overshooting the target position by too much, even after lots of testing different configuration values) -
aint nuthin wrong with being a boffin or geek, though I got bored with being a geek some time ago, and became half normal. but then again.... ;+)

understanding how to configure LEDrings
Steven_C replied to Steven_C's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
Thanks Thorsten! I'm just wondering, why my encoders work properly, when in the 13th and 14th SR, it says "db ID_IGNORE, ID_IGNORE ; (in my setup encoders are connected here)" and I never changed this before I built the main.HEX file? in the standard lc application, will the ledrings work straight away without configuring, if I just connect them to the right shift registers? if I connect the ledrings like in the pdf, will they work straight away, or will I have to assign the SR pins in the lc_IO_table? I am using mios 1.2, as the faders go erratic when I try 1.3 (they kind of don't stop at the target position, they keep going! Your design is like Logic audio... too many options for beginners, but everything possible that an expert needs! When I get time, I will make a step by step webpage on how to build the standard LC, with upgrade options and things... for beginners, maybe with a modular frontpanel or something! Unless someone beats me to it! Thanks Thorsten! If someone else can help, could they please save Thorsten from all the typing? ;) -
I don't think the Sidstation is available anymore ???
-
oops, sorry dragon, I didn't read your earlier posts properly. Hey Dan, yeah I got the same ones already, but I saw these for so cheap, including a backlight, that I thought I could upgrade. But I am nervous to send money if I don't know how the postage will be paid for to Australia!! (not to mention giving strangers money over the net... I would prefer to post the payment... oh well, maybe I will take a chance.... maybe.

Hey Dna, (oops I mean Dan) I'm too tired to read all that, but if you send me the files, I can build it in MPLab for you, you must be keen to start using your 'box!!

Encoder deal part two ( Aussie specially )

Hey Ian, I am thinking of ordering some from Nat, cos I really like the alps ones. But my first concern is to help you by getting some more off you, seeing as you did such a favour for us aussies, that is, if you are having problems getting rid of the non-button type. But if you are planning on using what you have left, then I'll just try to get some from Nat. Thanks for all the help and encouragement you have given me, I really appreciate it ;D I also really like my LC now that it has 8 v-pots. (I will add an eq strip if I ever work out how to do it!! I hope you are having fun with your creations, from Steve! ;D -
Hey jesaiplu, if you can't get detented encoders anywhere else, talk to Ian, he may be able to help you.
-
BTW, does anyone know what the extra LED's under the encoders on TK's LC emulation are for?
-
(heart beating faster after I saw that!) very very nice ;D, are you some kind of designer? ...makes me a little scared to build the MBsid, but then again I was afraid to start the LC, and I've almost finished it now! I gotta get off this site, it is addictive ;D Must get some sleep!
-
hey pay, oh! thats good, I'm glad you corrected my mistake so quickly! yeah, 160mA.. much better ;D (won't need a new PSU afterall! ;D bye, from Steve

Hey, I have found a way to get the panasonics to stop hitting the bottom stops so hard... I cut a strip of thin rubber (from an old inner tube from a tyre, but there would probably be better materials to use than this) made holes for the mounting screws of the faders to go through, and sandwiched the strip between the faderbodies, and the front panel, so that the rubber protruded into the travel of the faders by about 1mm. (a bit fiddly, takes patience to get it right!) This works well, and I don't grit my teeth from unneasiness when the faders hit the bottom anymore! I will send a photo to TK to post as soon as I borrow a digital camera from somewhere, or get film for my camera, and scan the prints on my scanner! (my current digital camera is very bad quality!) hope you are all having fun building this stuff, from Steve.

from main.asm I assume I won't have to change these numbers? from lc_io_table can someone tell me what I have to change here to get the LEDrings working? from lc_io_table if I modified it like this, would that mean that pin one on SR one would switch the LCD meter into a horizontal LEDring? sorry to ask so many questions at once, thanks, from Steve

dude, there are children present you know!

Encoder deal part two ( Aussie specially )
Steven_C replied to Ian_Hurlock's topic in Parts Questions
Hey Ian, thats very generous of you. Have you seen Nat's post on his order of encoders? The alps ones are very high quality, and have a great feel, though they are $1.70 US.. this is more than the encoders you got, and will be even more including postage, but still a good price for alps. Maybe one of us could order some from Nat, and distribute them locally? (for those who want non-detented) Then again, most of us really want to keep the price down! What do you think? (BTW they are not detented) BTW how many non-button encoders do you have left? -
LED's -.....15mA each, X 90 approx = 1.3A ...Hmmm... to answer your question, pilo, I think an LED bar will be better, set up near the top of the surface, like a meter bridge, as it is : A.. Easier, B.. Much easier to wire up (just a simple grid, instead of point to point) C.. you can see the meter levels easier, D.. when I switch it to ledring mode, my hand won't obstruct the view of the ledring, and E.. if I choose to run encoders most of the time, even to adjust fader levels (save the life of the panasonic faders, except when writing automation) then I will have a nice indication of the fader virtual positions (good idea for a portable or budget version of the LC) Downside... Not very cool for panning things! (especially if you have lots of pots panned hard left/right in a row!! arrghh! I'm writing too much, not building enough!! ;)
-
So you already have the goods?
-
Yes, its a very nice piece of work!
-
0 Guests, 1 Users Steven_C yeah, just happened to me too! ;)
-
I thought that was just for the meters? Not for LEDrings... I'll just go and try it... BTW resolution of 9 (vertical) is not much worse than 11 LED's in a LEDbar.... Looking directly at the monitor gives good idea anyway!!
-
That is an amazing price for a good quality alps encoder!! I have 2 of them, and they feel like a real pot! But I got 16 from Ian, which I am happy with!
