MB-6582 front panel - I'm about to start. Feedback ... ?
stryd_one replied to nebula's topic in MIDIbox User Projects
LOL I'm not surprised... BTW I always called them G Clamps too, and so does everyone I know. "C-clamp From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from G-clamp)" And yet the article says G-Clamp all through it... I wonder if C-Clamp is the american name? -
I'm familiar with active sense messages (my k5k sends them too). They should just be ignored (by you and the reciever) Actually they both look crappy - what's (supposedly) going out, is totally different to what's coming in..... It's pretty common for midi interfaces to work fine until you try to send sysex :(

Ahhh!! Sorry man, I'm with ya now :) That's true, in fact I just was reading that page before I read this one.

F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7 string every 20 ms *solved*
stryd_one replied to cimo's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
That's based on MMA's schem: Yeh... ris8 mangled his midi interface to match his mangled keyboard, and had to mangle his core to match the two of them.... Seeing as you don't have a keyboard that forces you to mangle things, you should try and fix the interface (although the real problem may be the joystick port) so you don't have to mangle every core you make. -
capacitors. which are the best? which should be used?

Yeh ,those pics are not the same type. Same rating in farads, but not the same type. The one not shown but linked, is ceramic. The red one shown is not. -
Yes you can :) Answer the questions I asked not some other question ;) How do you know it's 25W? Maybe your iron is too hot, maybe you're rushing it... All time can be measured in seconds, that's what they're for. You should have to hold it there for a few hundred ms at least, to get things to flow right. No, it's not, that's why I asked. Inbetween your module and core is a cable. It can be a source of problems. If you swap the cores over and leave the same cable, your problem could stay. Etc etc. If you don't feel like answering my questions then just say so, I won't mind... I just don't like to help people who don't want my help.

Good post :) I think the 78xx is chosen because it's so popular = easy to find in all parts of the world... But it's probable that there are better parts.

Well spotted... TK would you mind fixing this for us? Uhm... maybe that one, too!

In the chat, we worked out that rasteri was using a nonstandard burner to burn the bootloader to his PICs. We suspect the bootloader has not been burned correctly (PIC is mis-configured)

Before I start, I have to say: All newbies take note. This is a great example of how to do troubleshooting posts. We were just talking about this post in the chat. Thanks nsunier :) Nah that's no good... This does suggest a faulty midi interface on the PC But... what's the BCA2k got to do with it? Those are controllers.... The midi interface means the thing on your pc :) (OK, these controllers have a midi interface of course, but I mean the PC midi interface... that's a common abbreviation I guess?) Uhm... how do these devices come into play here? It should be just the core plugged straight into your PC's midi interface...

Copper Rocher (an MBSID inside a former-candybox)

OK, that one is a good example of an unneeded quote ;) -
I just realised that after our long testing session in the chat none of us posted the results - that's a noisey noisey PSU. See the spikes? they're bad.

The acetone spit is a byproduct of the SID factory in his belly. -
Just bring a soldering iron. It's not like the doorman will know what it is ;D

Here's a tip - open excel. Copy the table. Paste it into a word doc. Add my conversion vbscript. run it. paste the results into the wiki. Easy :)

Well, after uploading MIOS you should receive an upload request every 2s - that's normal. However once you upload an application it should only send the one upload request. Can you please try and upload a test application, and post the *whole* log here and it's results?
-
How'd the optocoupler test go? Would you mind posting the results of all of those tests? This smells like another dodgy midi interface...

F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7 string every 20 ms *solved*
stryd_one replied to cimo's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
Nah that's what I said - it's most useful for new users to read, read, read, so they get used to where things go, and can easily find it when they search, search, search. A stickied thread in the troubleshooting forum and a link from the front page at ucapps and a solid search hit is about as good as the coverage could possibly be, and the most appropriate place. I'm the first to admit that sometimes it can be hard to find the little bit of info you need, amongst all the info around here - but this is not one of those times. You just didn't search hard enough. No, the problem is with your midi interface - you just changed the core so that it works with your broken midi interface. Now they're both gimpy ;) -
I'll take 4. Wait, this isn't one of those threads is it...
-
Well that's just a maximum tolerance... it means that any current draught up to 2A will be OK, but more than that will overload it. So long as you don't overload it you'll be fine.. . but if you're overloading it then you've got other issues, because you'll certainly be overloading a 1A max vreg ;) I can tell you one thing you're doing wrong - you're trying to make everything work all at once. Take it back to just the core, then add LCD, then dinx4 one at a time, then doutx4 one at a time, etc, testing all the way... Make sure everything works before advancing..that way, when it stops working, you'll only have changed one thing, so you'll know that one thing is the cause of the breakdown :)

Your english and midibox are both excellent :)

It's part of his plan for world domination. Step #1 - Keep 'em stupid. It works for most western nations ;)

LOL :) Nah I got that one down, early in my education of japanese culture: Smile, Frown, nihon-to. It's not so hard. I think the American version is smile, frown, shoot ;) PS: ha ha, made you google.

capacitors. which are the best? which should be used?
stryd_one replied to matrigs's topic in Parts Questions
So long as you follow the parts list and use the right type (electrolytic/ceramic/etc etc) and you don't get one of those crazy russian-doll-chinese-fake-capacitors you'll be right. Of course you get what you pay for, so you might end up with the occasional dead one. Testing capacitors with a multimeter has been covered before so I won't go there. -
1A is the standard, but 2A should be fine, provided you're not trying to sink too much current with your LEDs/LCD/etc, in which case you're gonna hurt the chips Yeh that was because the LEDs were using up all the juice. (but apparently not too much for the SR's) that shouldn't happen, sounds like you might have a data line somewhere shorted with the ground plane. This could be bad for the chips too, I'd pull all the ICs from their sockets, disconnect power, grab the meter, clamp one probe to a ground pin, and do a continuity test on all the data pins. Sounds like a lot but it'll only take a minute. Just drag the probe around until you hear the beep ;)
