What hex did you upload for the SID?

Yeh, just grab ubuntu - you want the "desktop" image. That's a LiveCD, from which you can optionally setup a persistent install (still live, so it boots anywhere, but retains your settings), or a full install. It's not 100% "just works" don't get us wrong - it is still linux.... But it's a quantum leap from other flavours I've used, and any "issues" don't really arise until you are doing some more specific configuration. Certainly I've been able to get it to work well on every machine I've thrown it at - even my lab PC, a celeron 333 (a pentium2 but less cache, not a new celeron) with 256mb ram..... And you know what, it was actually usable, unlike XP on that box ;) I tend to use my laptop as a the yardstick though, it's about 4 years old, full of proprietry non-officially-linux-supported hardware, connecting to a WPA2-PSK WLAN with hidden SSID. If that thing works then just about anything will ;) If you're gonna have a play with it, feel free to drop by the chat, quite a few of us have had a go with it and can help out if you need it :) Go for it... I'd say, mark the apps as "NONFREE", in the Ubuntu scheme that seems the "done thing"... What's the aim of doing this?

We'll be using virtualbox rather than vmware, also piklab will be installed which talks to JDM and Burner...

Threshold's been 0.75V so far, so you're only *just* going below that, assuming your multimeter is very accurate (bad assumption ehehe)

This raises an interesting point - now that the new structure is out , and MIDIBox uses GPASM and MPASM is not required, do we still leave MPLAB on there? I think MPLAB should be included, along the same lines as AVR-GCC and such for other similar platforms. We've got HDDs, sticks, and DVDs, that are portable live setups; HDDs and sticks that are portable and also save your settings and new apps you install; and full installations to stick and HDD. The HDD in any case is either internal or external. It's a very attractive concept :D Most of the hard work in getting it to boot in all these useful ways is already built in to ubuntu which is bloody great. The hard part is in configuring it so that it's useful to a midiboxer :)

As well as being about 10* faster (= more decks and/or more accurate), If you're searching for codespace... that logic is a good way to get a couple hundred lines of code back too :) The algo should drop right into your code too, the original that I wrote was based on your app. I'd be happy to make up a mod for you to upload and test. While I'm at it, I can also make this app work with the new MIOS structure... There's nothing to it really, just fix up the includes and use the skeleton's makefile :)

It's a shame because I know how hard you worked to get the LCD's just-right... but clearly the box functions rather well without them too!! :) Really great stuff MTE, keep on rolling buddy :) I'd love to see this app combined with the high-res encoder work that is being done around here too. With the new MIOS structure it's even easier to allow for both options, and it can be specified at build time in the makefile so it's easy to modify it for your needs... Same could be done for any of the many buttons and other controls, you can just set the makefile variables to indicate what's connected and where. Seems to me like you've got two lovely projects that would make a lovely couple... or a threesome...how many DJ controllers are being made atm? :) Pool your resources guys!

You have to send them to me first though, because I have to do a live PA at a party, and it's really important because it's for a university project, it's due this weekend, and if I don't finish the midibox that I started this morning then I will fail. I may even have a heart attack and die. Do you want me to die? You guys are all bastards. I'll just stick to the classics ;)

I'm still struggling to see why an electronic schematic might be so meaningful as to permanently emblazon oneself with it.... I mean, if Bob Moog had this tatt it would make perfect sense to me, it would have had a huge bearing on his life... Maybe this guys wants to be called andy_moog_fanboy ;) but I've got some weird ink myself, so who am I to question it ;)

hahahaha well, I didn't guess that you meant 'm' for 'midibox', because I said before Yaknow, I don't want to make like it's exclusively useful for midiboxing. Also, mbuntu is also verry close to mubuntu, the old and still 'reserved' name of ubuntu studio... But, I saw it broken down like mbuntu, rather than mbuntu - the extra b makes it very midibox, but it would be hidden to anyone else who doesn't know, they'd probably see mbuntu like I did (because it's more like ubuntu, a word they are familiar with) and dammit, it's a good sounding name! I'll talk with the ubuntu devs before I go changing the wiki name though... We don't operate under their control or anything, but IMO we should show due respect.

Yay :) Sounds lke the app's not running, or the PIC has locked up... How did you upload it? MIOS Studio in smart mode? What if you upload another app for testing, does that work?
