  1. STFU and give nebs a break FFS, then I can take a break too, and we can all be waiting patiently, instead of waiting loudly and starting shit with smartarse comments like that one.
  2. Wow cool.... Sure to be some good knowhow floating around there! :D Good idea. I use VMWare at work, and I've read of one other FLOSS virtualisation package... is there a reason you go for VB?
  3. This forums only big enough for me and no f**king emos. I eat emos. They are chewy.
  4. Perhaps you would be so kind as to suggest an alternative layout (manual) for the sake of demonstration?
  5. patience! shit! (sorry but I'm growing very impatient with the impatience here)
  6. Wine yes for sure (i won't use it but I know others will) FPD yes for sure I think eagle is ok, it's free so long as it's the free version... but it's not "where you can install it" that counts here, it's "can we distribute it?" No need for linkage, doesn't hurt though! i've bookmarked most of these in the past few years already, this is just an exercise to get a feature list. No, if you supply your own windows media and serial number, it's legal.
  7. I assume yours is the setup_6581.asm? You mean you uploaded one of the hex files from TK via midi and it went OK? or you flashed it with the burner? (that shouldn't work)
  8. The vregs might smooth out some of the noise too... Yeh, it's there.... Unless you got the first ever non-noisy switchmode I ever heard of ;D
  9. Welcome aboard nickca! Thanks for sharing your hard work! Unfortunately, there are two problems which spring to mind, that such a design will introduce: 1) Noise from the switch mode PSU 2) A DC shift in the audio from the imbalanced bipolar voltages (mixdown nightmare) That said this is a simple design... I don't know if I could say I'd recommend it though :(
  10. @EVERYONE Please edit this page, add as much as you can, correct it, whatever. Go crazy: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/labuntu:labuntu Feel free to mention this in other DIY electronics/DIY audio/musical communities, the more input the better. If they want to edit the page but don't want to sign up for a midibox account, I'll pass on their ideas, they can email me.
  11. Huh? Ahh OK.... You've gota corrupt bootloader. I don't think that' a separate problem at all ;) Think you forgot to attach ;)
  12. Noone's gonna beat that. IOU 1*optocoupler. I'd make it 2* , but I like you.
  13. Yeh MIDIbuntu was the only name I came up with yet.... Keeping in mind that it will one day grow into a platform for other stuff too, I'd like to not make it sound like it's all about midi though...I'd also like to hint that it's aimed at development (rather than nameing). Oh I know... what's the word everyone uses to describe both the studio and the workbench? "Lab" -> Labuntu. MIDIbuntu sounds cooler, but Labuntu makes the right statement ;) If we go Fedora it'll be Fedora Lab or something... and we can plaster it with midibox.org /ucapps.de signage, as a pointer to it's roots :)
  14. Sweet. Ardour and rosegarden are very popular linux audio apps and would definitely be included. Maybe I should start a wiki page so people can add the apps/features they want... I need a name first.... Edit: Two text editors for consideration: Editra and jEdit (java, let's not) Geany... Word has it that gEdit may do the trick with some plugins, but i'd like to leave room to grow.
  15. You can fight 1980s Olivia for me ;) I'm burning fedora9 to test it right now... We'll see how it fares in comparison. It seems that a lot of us are fedora (+ccrma) users. I strongly considered SUSE, it had a big edge over the other distros for me, because I have access to some very intensive tech support for it which normally costs a lot of money. Unfortunately it wasn't so portable as ubuntu, it only liked certain machines.... Bummer!
  16. Just make sure you edit the page where the dupes are... Even same-page dupes can be problematic...
  17. Hahah, no i meant that it's been a long-running debate. See cubase vs cakewalk vs logic for an example.... I guess teh midiboxers are enjoying the show huh :) Well here's the thing - not all devices share the same Cx for middle C. Middle C in MIDI is C5 is note 60. Count from note 0 which is the first C note, so call it C0... That makes note 60 C5 On an organ it's C2 according to organ man. In scientific notation it's C4. But on a piano it's C4. If the piano has 88 keys. If not, it may be C3.... The point is, the numbering is instrument-specific. If the instrument's range of notes is limited by midi (as opposed to pipes, strings, keys, etc) then IMO it should be C5 ... But try telling that to a piano player who expects that pitch to be called C3, and you know why this debate will never end.
  18. I did think about making a giant .msi file package so that anyone could usi a nice easy installer package, but I bailed on that idea because it would be tricky to do updates. Now that I'm migrating away from windows (at last!) I don't really want to invest that kind of time anyway, and APT makes it easy for me to update apps for linux, so....
  19. Hmmm, powerful and fits most of the above requirements, but there are no tabs, and that's part of a general lack of user-friendliness.... Any thoughts? FWIW, emacs and vi would probably be part of the distro no matter what, but I don't see them being the default.... Too confusing for newbies, myself included. I like to click stuff, not search manuals to find key commands ;) Edit: note that in windows land I can just use the standardised key commands so that problem doesn't exist.
  20. newbies: don't use that hex file. I'm not sure why you put a poisoned hex on here mate, I don't wanna fried PIC either! ;) Why not put the source up? And the logs of the build too... None at all? or none to speak of? Seems fine? Core shouldn't reboot until the upload is complete, and the bootloader should not allow your app to overwrite any code...something is strange here. Are you using smart mode? Are you SURE? Define not working?
  21. Welcome aboard mate. I am unaware of any major changes between the revisions and batches.... They should be fine as a pair (unless you're extremely audiophile)
  22. More documentation gold! We'll have to put this one on the wiki too... Just as soon as we fix pdf uploads :) I might convert it to wiki format too, for those who don't need a pdf
  23. Very nice work as always!! Wish that documentation was on-site though :(
  24. You probably shouldn't, because you shouldn't have to. You can upload the change_id app to set your ID to 0.
  25. Agreed! I'm not saying "ditch the table", just that only one should stay... you can choose which one :) Totally - that's why I think it would help to clean up those pages I lnked above. From the front page, they're the first things linked to, and the descriptions of the links (and the intended content) would make those pages the first ones I would visit, as a newbie...but they're kinda all over the place...
