  1. Count me in for 1 kit.... but I already have the PICs and banksticks... and a lot of transistors and resistors... and lots of 74HC165... so I only really need the IC sockets and the capacitors... no wait, I've got heaps of 100nF capacitors, but not the big electrolytics or the little ceramics you need for the crystal... oh definitely need the 10Mhz crystals although I have one already, so only need 3 crystals... so it's IC sockets, all the capacitors except 100nF, all the chips except PICs and 24LC512 and 74HC165... hang on, I got a spare optocoupler cos I bought about five when I built my last MB-6582... so don't need that one... and the regulators but I only need one 7809 cos I don't use 6581 at all.... oh and I've run out of resistor networks so I need those, but not any of the 10K or 1K ones, better throw in the 5k6 and 1k2 cos I don't know if I have them... hope that's not too much trouble Smash, cos I wouldn't want to have any parts left over or anything.
  2. Last I heard, they were going to make more in opaque white, opaque red and opaque grey. ALBS would prefer us to arrange a bulk order, so if anyone in Germany wants to volunteer, please contact me to arrange a hand-over of the mailing list of people wanting knobs. I'll warn everyone now, if you all individually order from ALBS then you'll just delay all orders (including your own) because they are slow to process orders.
  3. No, once I've got confirmed orders from people who pre-ordered, I can then email invoices out.
  4. There are 301 SIDs allocated already, assuming all pre-orders will be confirmed, this leaves only 11 still available (which I'll keep in reserve in case any SIDs in this batch fail testing). New orders from now will still be collected and put on a waiting list, some might become available from this batch if some pre-orders are not confirmed and/or no SIDs in this batch fail testing.
  5. RD6 is used for both the LCD and the SID. Perhaps you can disconnect the LCD and test if RD6 works without the LCD connected... i.e. perhaps there's a short on the LCD or where you soldered the cable to the LCD or even in the cable or connector itself. RD6 is connected to RW pin of J15 (the LCD port) so check any shorts between that pin and the nearby pins.
  6. They're for bridging with solder blobs should you need to use 8-bit mode for an LCD or PLED display.
  7. 6582 SIDs now on sale: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=9829.0
  8. WILBA HAS GONE COMPLETELY MAD SALE! I am currently arranging to purchase 312 pcs of 6582 SID chips and sell them to everyone. 6582 SIDs will be sold at US$25 each, fully tested, quantity must be multiple of 2. Shipping to anywhere in the world will be US$4 for up to 16 SIDs using uninsured airmail letter. If you want insured airmail, the prices using current AU$1=US$0.82 conversion rate: Postage is US$7 (to USA) or US$8.20 (to Europe) Insurance is US$6.50 for first US$82 cover, plus US$1.80 for every extra US$82 cover. Postal insurance is not available to Canada and Germany. I highly recommend everyone ordering 4 or more SIDs to get insurance if available. Unless you explicitly request uninsured airmail, this will be the default postage cost if ordering 4 or more SIDs. If a SID is found to be dead on arrival by testing in an MB-SID proven to work with another SID, then I might offer to replace it. Otherwise, these SIDs come with absolutely no warranty. I will be collecting confirmed orders now, and sending out invoices and collecting PayPal payments while I wait for the shipment. There are 312 SIDs in the shipment, and 219 SIDs have been pre-ordered (people put on my "list"). Act fast or you will miss out. Everyone must email me their confirmed order for 6582 SIDs using the following email format: To: Jason.S.Williams@IHATESPAMgmail.com Subject: 6582 SID Confirmed Order - insert your username here Message Text: Quantity of 6582 SIDs MIDIbox forum username Full name Contact email address PayPal email address Postal Address People already on my "list" have priority over new orders, but they must email me their confirmed order within 7 days of receiving their notification email. People are expected to pay their PayPal invoice within a day or two of receiving it.
  9. It's a standard character LCD using the HD44780 industrial standard, the default LCD type for MIOS. The only thing worth noting is that white backlight LCDs are edge lit (not a LED array underneath)... they will therefore use less current (maybe only 60mA?) and the brightness control of the Core PCB might not work as expected - you can use a 100ohm resistor in series with +5v/ground to pins 15 and 16 as an alternative, if you are paranoid and worried about burning out the LEDs.
  10. Nice :D Where did you get that font for the "MIDIBOX SID 303"? To answer your question, I can't see any reason why you can't make one like this... If you're mainly wanting to use this with MB-SID V2 "Bassline" engine, then a SID is only using one oscillator, the menu shows "ACh" with values L, R, LR (for controlling the one oscillator on left, right or both SIDs). You might prefer to label the "Osc" section like this. When in "Bassline" mode, both the Oscillator and Envelope LEDs will show this "ACh" parameter, the buttons will toggle between the values (i.e. you control envelope depth->filter per SID). Oscillator sync and ring modulation require more than one oscillator and (I think) don't work in Bassline mode because it only uses one oscillator. (I could be wrong, but there is no control over the other oscillators in Bassline mode, each SID is a one-osc "instrument" like a 303). I'm also not too clear on the purposes of the knobs Env Mod and Accent. The "big feature" of MB-SID V2 is dual SID control from one Core, and while this makes lead patches sound fat, it also gets used elsewhere, like in Bassline mode (as described above) which can have two different sequences running at the same time. Even if you only own one SID, you really should allow for the possibility that you might add another SID later. Following on from that, the mod matrix is reused in Bassline mode, the buttons select which sequence to play on each SID, the LEDs light up to show the sequence steps... you might not want do use a full 8x8 LED matrix with 16 buttons, but 8 buttons for selecting one of the eight sequences might be useful (or two rows of eight for left and right sequences). You can do this from the menu, but you have to scroll through the sequence number, you can't quickly jump from one to another. Finally, (and don't take this as criticism, just a warning!) the PT-8 is pretty small... that might be what you want, but unless you use a switch and LED matrix like I did on the MB-6582, you might find squeezing all the DIN and DOUT boards you need (along with PSU section, Core and 1-2 SID modules) a little difficult. The PT-10 will give you more room on the frontpanel and more space inside for the PCBs. (Don't make the mistake I did and try to pack everything into the smallest possible case that could contain it!!!!)
  11. Definiately forget about faders for parameter controls like that, but they can be cool as configurable analog inputs which you can map to anything... i.e. pitch bend, LFO rate/depth etc. Yes, the modulation matrix is editable via the menu.
  12. I used a dual-gang 500k log/audio pot. Tolerances on potentiometers aren't great, so you will not get precision, however I can confirm that it's not that critical to performance... at least the pots I use are matched enough and used in a way that both SIDs in a pair sound the same, and reach self-oscillation at the same pot position.
  13. I had to drop in mios.h from the latest MB-SID V2 firmware, so this build requires MIOS 1.9f. setup_8580.zip setup_8580.zip
  14. I should stop pre-empting what TK will do then :-[
  15. Sorry I confused the issue there... If all you want is an extra row of LEDs then do as I suggested and extend the 7 rows you see in the diagram to 8 rows, connecting the 8th row's common cathodes to the unassigned DOUT pin. Then add another switch to any DIN input and assign it to CS_MENU_BUTTON_M_Vol. The V2 firmware will work with 8 rows (i.e. with a LED matrix between two DOUT). The MB-6582 diagram I was directing you to was just to show you that you can (if you want) arrange the LED matrix the other way, with common cathodes in vertical columns instead of horizontal rows, and also (if you were interested) put all LEDs and switches in the same matrix.
  16. 2. Looks like MIDI TX/RX has not been put in MB-SID V2 yet (it is in V1). I am sure when it is put in, it can be assignable in the DOUT table.
  17. I've been dreaming about getting a Ztar for ages: http://www.starrlabs.com/ which has been the inspiration for my own guitar-like ribbon controller instrument, still unrealised four years later... man, what have I been wasting my time on? ;)
  18. 1. D0..D3 should be open. 2. That's TK's V1 wiring... You can extend the LED matrix another row of common cathodes to D0. The MB-6582 matrix is wired differently (common cathodes in vertical columns) (see MB6582 wiki). You can switch in the firmware which way the matrix is wired. Precompiled application will use the 8th matrix line LEDs.
  19. I will get more 6582 SID chips soon.
  20. I just bought 200 more from eBay, and plan to distribute with 6582 SID orders. But I can send some out to you no problem... if no one else volunteers.
  21. This could be meter mode, quote from V2 manual (same applies to V1)
  22. Another run of these PCBs will happen, and probably soon, maybe they will get "stocked" in SmashTV's shop, or maybe it will be just another bulk order arrangement, all the possibilities are being discussed. Just wait patiently. There's probably no need to keep a tally anymore, critical mass has been reached. ;)
  23. How about a set of sixteen 22nF 1% tolerance capacitors?
  24. I forgot to reply to this: I will write the code to use the full 4 lines of the 4x20 screen, and have been waiting for V2 to be close to official release before I started (so the entire feature set is there). This can also be a bit more of a collaboration, after people finish their MB-6582 and can comment on what they would like in the extra two lines.
