A VST solution is nice, but not that helpful for me either, eg. if I want to use FL Studio, it has it's own MIDI Out instrument/channel which will conflict with any VST trying to communicate on the same MIDI interface. I can't see any easy way around that, unless the VST was also implementing a gate/frequency to MIDI event interface (lots of work there, but would let me do slides so much easier).

The aim is/was not to display 10 menu items wrapped across the four lines (this looks very strange when scrolling). I used a 4x20 display for a few reasons, the primary one was that it fits nicely, 2x20 have a wider footprint and wider characters, the 4x20 is narrower on the sides, so there's room for the menu encoder and buttons on the right side. It was always intended to be used as a 20 character wide display with two extra lines for either adding extra info to the main screens or maybe showing 3 "rows" of a wavetable or bassline sequence. I am still working on full utilization of the extra two lines... this is low priority because it works perfectly already... people are welcome to suggest how the extra two lines should be used AFTER they have finished their MB-6582 and played with it a while (i.e. feedback from experience not guessing what would be nice).

I suppose that's right. All I can remember is that the FPD file aligns a switch and the LEDs that "belong" to it so that they would all "work" on prototyping board. So for example, the centre of the LED won't be exactly over a hole but between two holes, horizontally or vertically depending on the arrangement (i.e. LEDs to right or below a switch). Exception to this is the matrix, in which the LEDs would have to be aligned over a hole so that they're aligned to both the switches below and to the left.

No... I prefer to wait until I get SIDs in hand, I try to minimize time between your payment and sending them.

Didn't get in the first MB-6582 PCB bulk order? Then post here

On my TODO list is to add the MB-SID V2 patch editor into the Java-based MIOS Studio. Unfortunately, I've run out of time to do this now, still very busy with other things (like selling SIDs, developing my MB-SEQ, etc.) so it's not something I will get time to do soon... so I'm hoping someone else will take it on. I just wanted to suggest that using MIOS Studio as the base framework might be the easiest starting point, as all the work of MIDI routing etc. has been taken care of, and you can see how things like the hex upload and virtual keyboard work. This will be a lot easier than starting from nothing.

Chill everyone. JV is not a profiteer, and I think we've steered him into doing new projects for fun instead of thinking about a commercial product first. You guys have no idea about "capital investment". This is capital investment.... $7800 worth of SIDs. *whack*

That PDF shows the default wiring on the MB-6582 base PCB... HOWEVER the resistor is connected to the PIC pin AND NOT the J15 pin, it is NOT needed for the LCD. You aren't usng 4-bit mode on the PIC18F452 Core, therefore you have only proved it works in 8-bit mode on the other Core, and not proved that 4-bit mode works for these displays. You can try moving the PIC18F4685 to the other Core, and disconnecting the unused four data wires on the LCD (I am assuming if you've tested it on the PIC18F452 then you must be using a cable with all 8-bit data wires connected). This will test these displays work in 4-bit mode. Also, check connectivity between J15 pins and the PIC pins. Maybe there is a short or a break. Finally, R80 should be mounted for the CAN bus, but it should have no effect on whether the LCD works or not because it should not be connected to J15 at all.... likewise with the diode that connects the CAN bus Tx/Rx pins on port B, these are not connected to the J15 pins and thus not connected to the LCD.

The holes for the encoders are 14mm, the same as they are in my original panel. This is so people can illuminate their "Waldorf" knobs if they want to. The Waldorf knobs that are on my original MB-6582 and which were recommended for other people's MB-6582s and which were bulk ordered on three continents are perfectly sized and will not only cover this hole (they are 16mm at the base), they also have a cavity that allows them to cover up the bushing that sticks out from the frontpanel.

"Parcel" postage is just airmail, there is no tracking. There is also no postal insurance to Mexico. We can discuss other options via email.

I have many 6581 that go silent when you turn on the filter, I assume that means a broken chip.

THE 6582 SID MEGA-SALE IS NOW CLOSED! A future 6582A SID MEGA SALE will be arranged through this wiki page: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/wilba_6582a_sid_mega_sale ************************************************************************ WILBA IS TOTALLY CRAZY!!! *WHACK* As if selling 666 SIDs to date wasn't crazy enough, I am now expecting delivery of 512 pieces of CSG 6582A SID. THE GOODS 6582 (6582A) SIDs are just like 8580 SIDs and not like 6581 SIDs. They have the filter that works best for the MB-SID V2 Bassline mode, low noise, less bugs. Look elsewhere for whether 6582/8580 is better/worse than 6581. I use eight of them in my MB-6582 MB-SID V2 Synth: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/wilba_mb_6582 (but you already knew that) THE DEAL Due to recent changes in exchange rates, my haggling skills, and to make my accounting easier, I am changing the price I usually charge, and will request payment in Australian dollars only. 6582 SIDs now cost AU$25 each plus postage and handling fees. I add up the exact cost of SIDs and postage in Australian dollars, and then multiply by 1.0351966873706 to add the handling fee. This means 6582 SIDs now cost approximately AU$25.88 or US$22.97 or 16.23 EUR when including handling fees. Postage will be calculated as the actual cost to post, plus packaging. The PayPal invoice will include the handling fee in the postage amount. Approximately 200 SIDs are reserved for people on the waiting list, so there'll be approximately 300 SIDs available for new orders. People on the waiting list must still email me their orders! HOW TO ORDER Running the MB-6582 PCB bulk order and selling SIDs has now made me intolerant of people who can't follow simple instructions, reply to their emails within a few days, or don't sent PayPal payments. So there are now three simple rules: 1. If you don't have the cash, don't waste my time with an order. An order means "I can pay now", not "I can pay when I get paid next month". I would prefer people wait until they are ready to buy and then order. 2. After emailing an order, you are expected to check your emails daily and make a PayPal payment as soon as you receive a payment request. I try to do things as quickly as possible, but this stuff still takes time. 3. Fill in the order form exactly as described so I can easily copy and paste the details into a spreadsheet. Email your order to: Jason.S.Williams@ I HATE SPAM gmail.com The contents of the email should be (without labels!): MIDIbox username Real name + Postal Address + COUNTRY Contact Email Address (same one you are using to email me) PayPal Email Address Quantity of 6582A SIDs example: FunkyPunky Johannes Schmitt Oberammergaueralpenkräuterdelikatessenfrühstückskäse Str. 29 10997 Berlin GERMANY Johannes.Schmitt @gmx.de Johannes.Schmitt @gmx.de 8 DISCLAIMER If your parcel is lost in the mail and you didn't/couldn't get postal insurance, there's nothing I can do. All SIDs I sell are tested before packing to ensure the oscillators and filter work. These chips are new-old-stock, not pulls from Commodore 64, and are unused when sold, with absolutely no long term guarantee. However, considering these chips have been safely tucked away in antstatic tubes for 15 years, they are less likely to fail than one you find in Commodore 64 that has been power cycled thousands of times and been alternately cooked and frozen in a garage etc. From my experience, after testing over six hundred 6582 SIDs, only 3 were found dead. After salvaging about eight 6581s, all were found to have dead filters or dead oscillators. If you find any chips faulty through initial testing with hardware that is known to work, I might allow you to return them and get a refund or replacement if possible. THE SALE STARTS NOW! Don't wait too long to get your SIDs... they might cart me away to the asylum before I can buy another batch

Request for Comments: change of Ensemble selection in MBSID V2
Wilba replied to TK.'s topic in MIDIbox SID
Yes, this is a problem, because I'd like an Ensemble Init function but there's nowhere to put it! Great idea. That sounds good, because the Menu button here has no other function. As an additional method (or alternative?) the PageUp/PageDown buttons could change the ensemble... especially in the Ensemble menu. -
I would suggest you upload setup_mb6582.hex to each Core (with cloning) as this contains the correct setup for the MB-6582 control surface. Then for each ensemble you use, change the filter range to 000-FFF for the SID channels with 6581. Remember, the only difference is in the default filter range, afterwards it is stored in the ensemble. This will be a lot easier, since you can use "upload and clone" method for future releases and the ensemble will remain unchanged (i.e. the SID channel with 6581 will still have a different range). The alternative is to recompile setup_mb6582.hex with a default filter range of 000-FFF, but then I believe this would make all the ensembles have this range, even for the other SID channels, and then maybe only if you install a blank BankStick in bank 8, I don't think it changes any existing ensembles.

I don't use facebook either, nor am I really interested in filling in a form just to have a look, but I would prefer the MIDIbox logo be used as an avatar image... a picture of MB-6582 does not represent the MIDIbox community.

Good to hear! *whack* is the reminder I give people so they know I'm smiling and making a joke, not being serious or intentionally insulting them. While TK's MB-SID V2 is brilliant programming, it's not an artificial intelligence and does not perceive humour nor can it be offended, therefore MB-6582 does not require a *whack*. However, in future you should try waving a dead chicken over hardware that doesn't work. Some people think this is just an idiom, but I actually use a real chicken *whack*

I upgraded RC5 to RC6 with cloning, no problem.

The FPD file has engraved text and artwork, so it can't look like the silkscreen version being made in the panels bulk order, but it is what the original MB-6582 looks like. I've taken care to make the FPD match the control surface PCB, and the panels being ordered now are based off the FPD file for the holes, so you'd have no issues with ordering a panel with an FPD file. If you like the silkscreen version, I would advise you to wait, because by the time another PCB fabrication is arranged, another panel bulk order will probably be arranged by someone (I'm not suggesting Altitude will do it!)... and there's no point having panels in hand before you have the PCBs and all the other parts anyway.

The silkscreen artwork on the wiki: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/wilba_mb_6582 is outdated, it is missing the section dividing lines on the front panel and extra labels on the rear panel. I will update it soon. However this might not help you much anyway, one-off silkscreening would cost a bomb. If you want a one-off made by Schaeffer or Front Panel Express then use the FPD files as a base... I should probably double-check they are correct before you order anything.

Damn you Sasha, that button layout is almost identical to my plans, now people will think I copied you! Great layout... you've inspired me to keep the 4x16 button/LED matrix in my own design.

All SIDs from this order have been shipped. End of thread.

That site's missing my MOS 6582 which has 6581 waveforms and an 8580 filter *whack* (Not to be confused with CSG 6582 and CSG 6582A which I sell, that have 8580 waveforms).

SHIPPED: LCD 20x4 for MB6582, red-on-black: Europe order
Wilba replied to Kartoshka's topic in Bulk Orders
I just bought 6 and got them all shipped to Australia for $16. If I bought just one, it would still cost $16 to ship.
