hi; voor de duidelijkheid; ik weet zeker dat dit niet aan smash zelf ligt, hij zou eerder zelf mee betalen aan een bestelling dan dat ie je teveel voor iets zou laten betalen. zoals wisefire zegt; een aanrader yep, het lcd scherm laat ook altijd zien wat de waarde van een controller is als je er aan draait, ledrings zijn vet maar niet (altijd) nodig; alleen als je heel veel verschillende dingen met je controller bestuurd is het met ringen wat overzichtelijker het voordeel van de encoder is dus dat als je switcht naar een andere preset (met midibox of software) een encoder nooit verkeerd staat, bij pots is dat wel. als je de instellingen van ableton waar je je controller/mixer voor gaat gebruiken niet (vaak) switcht tijdens het spelen zou ik voor potmeters gaan. ik zou als ik jou was gewoon 2 midiboxes maken; je mixer en het kastje voor de gitarist. in principe is het wel mogelijk wat je wilt, maar door het gedoe met lange kabels krijg je er zowieso een extra moeilijkheid bij. en uit ervaring zijn er altijd al genoeg kleine probleempjes wanneer je zo'n project voor het eerst doet. of begin in ieder geval om eerst jou mixerdesk werkend te krijgen; als die werkt kun je de rest ook wel.. ;D je kunt qua software altijd alles veranderen en uploaden je zit hier zeker op de goeie plek, maar zoals ik al zei maak eerst jou mixer, of die van gitarist; is een wat kleiner project, dus makkelijker om werkend te krijgen. als die werkt snap je al heel wat meer van het midibox concept en dan kun je je andere bakkies ook beter plannen wat is eigenlijk de reden dat je alles op dezelfde core wilt aansluiten? alleen de prijs? met verschillende cores midiboxes is het volgens mij makkelijker en technisch beter. wat betreft modules die je later maakt erbij pluggen, je kunt als de tijd daar is eventueel altijd een (computer)poort op de midibox maken en het daarop aansluiten groeten, marcel

ok dan, eerst even checken of ik snap wat je wilt; je hebt qua instumenten; een drumstel (niet electronisch) een electrische gitaar een MC-505 een laptop met Ableton live dan wil jij een controller; hoe bedoel je een mixer? midiboxes zijn alleen midicontrollers; je kunt geen audio mixer maken met een midibox. Of heb je een goede geluidskaart waar je alle instrumenten direct inplugd en gebruik je je laptop/ableton ook als mixer voor de hele band? dan kan het wel met een midibox. naast de mixer wil je op jou machine een midicontroller voor bepaalde functies in ableton. (alleen switches of ook draaiknopjes?). je moet hiervoor geen midio128 gebruiken; deze applicatie is meer bedoeld om midi commando's om te zetten in digitale output signalen (bijv. om dingen te triggeren, je kunt zo dingen die alleen op triggers werken besturen met midi; bijv keyboard of orgel toetsen, drummodules, (gecircuitbend) speelgoed) wat jij nodig hebt is gewoon een midicontroller; een mb64 of mb64e; 64 werkt met potmeters (schuif en/of draai) en knopjes, de 64e kan daar ook encoders bij handelen, verder zijn ze vrijwel identiek. je kunt alle projecten op de site zo basic houden als je maar wilt; bijvoorbeeld een mb64 met alleen drukknopjes met encoders is het flexibeler; dit zijn digitale draaiknoppen zonder begin of eindstand; met het voordeel dat deze knop "altijd goed" staat kun je me nogwat preciezer uitleggen wat je voor je andere bandleden wilt maken en wat ze doen; moet ik gewoon denken aan 1 klein kastje waar de gitarist de effectparameters mee bestuurd? hoeveel kastjes ga je maken? pas als ik dit weet kan ik wat zinnigs zeggen over hoe je het het beste kan aanpakken. kijk dat klopt niet; de DIN(x4) staat voor digitale input, daar kun je drukknopjes en encoders maar geen potmeters of faders op aansluiten. potmeters en faders geven analoge signalen uit (ze verdelen een voltage als regelbare weerstanden) je moet deze aansluiten op de AINx4 over de kabellengte je kunt beter de kabels naar knoppen en potmeters lang maken dan de kabels van core naar AINx4 of DINx4. alleen de kabels van potmeters naar AIN kunnen denk ik niet zomaar 5 meter zijn, je zou het kunnen proberen; lees deze threads eens http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=4099.0 http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=6453.0 http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=5485.0 als het niet gaat moet je in de andere kastjes een andere midibox maken; een midikabels kan volgens mij wel 5 meter zijn zonder signaalverlies groeten/succes, marcel

Yallo en welkom; voor je alles gaat bestellen; je zit volgens mij niet op het goede spoor -volgens mij moet je geen midio128 maken maar 1 of meer mb64's -je kunt inderdaad niet zomaar zulke lange kabels tussen je modules hangen ik heb nu niet zoveel tijd dus uitleg enzo hou je nog even van me tegoed (tot later vannacht of morgen). ik moet zeggen dat ik de thread maar even snel heb gelezen dus misschien zie ik iets over het hoofd, maar ik dacht ik waarschuw je even. groeten, marcel

hi you can make a a small circuit (led+transistor? check cgs.synth.net for "led driver") which you can connect directly to the triggers, but maybe there an easier way? i don't understand you completly; but mbseq can be controlled by midi; the specs are on the mbseq pages also keep in mind hallucinogen's design also uses another core+doutx4 module running MIDIO128 for triggering the drumvoices. if you want to keep it minimal you could skip the whole mbseq and play the modules with your soft seq (but then you won't have accent (signal from mbseq cv out)) there is a design on hallucinogens site cheers, marcel

Hey Peter no the programming fairy does this for you.. ;) just kidding, yeah you do this yourself. but don't be scared it's quite easy only the burning of the bootstrap loader needs special hardware (burner) but you can get your PIC's preburned from one of the MBStores. the other 2 softwares (MIOS+application) can be uploeded over midi. you will probably have to configure the MIDIO128 app before uploading, but this is quite user friendly also (kinda like a multiple choise quiz about your box) if you have a working midibox, you can control this with any midicontroller; keyboards/sequencers etc. btw where are you in holland (near rotterdam?); i'm interested in your project cheers, marcel

hey, so basically you want everything on your synth midified..nice but know that you will have to find out a lot of things yourself, or be very very patient and hope someone here finds the time for it for the switch thing, only some initial ideas have popped up here recently but i think nobody is really busy with this at the moment you can make switches with cmos ic's which can be controlled by a pulse (coming from the midibox), there are switch matrix ic's that can be controlled directly by microcontrollers etc. i also saw some interseting posts from smash on switching audio with optos/relays but haven't read them properly yet anyway if you find a suitable solution, you will then also have to do some programming for implementing everything with a midibox as for midifying the pots, you have had some suggestions in this thread; digipots, vc resistors but still these ideas are still quite basic. if i havent discouraged you ;) read up on all the reated bits and start experimenting!! cheers, marcel

Yeah if you go the cv route; you have 32 (pot) parameters for your synth? you could build a mb64 with MBcv attatched, maybe worth to look for the S&H ic's (maybe mouser?) if you have 4 you'll have 32 cv outs controllable with mb64's 32 pots cheers

hi; just to be sure, turn the contrast trimpot down, i've had lcd's that were readable with contrast way up, but recently had one that wasn't... had me fooled for a while. :P

hi; i just remembered i had something similar with my mbseq with only step buttons and 2 2x40 backlit lcds connected, my adapter/wall wart was on 7 volts at the time. in my case it hung even before the app is loaded, when i put my wall wart on 9 volts; no problem so i think you need more volts not amperes good luck, marcel

have you read the readme.txt from the new MIOS; there are several options for different situations; choose the right one. you can burn mios again and again (no need to erase). i suggest you test which bootloader you have, and then follow the steps once more. and get an lcd if possible! gives you some usefull feedback while troubleshooting cheers, marcel

what's the difference between mute and off? ;) there is no such thing as a 10k 3 way switch, a switch doesn't have a value it only goes on/off etc. (the 10k is the value we use for pot's; stands for 10 kilo ohm (ohm is unit of resistance)) you should just use push buttons (tact buttons for instance), like everyone uses here, later you can configure it to behave as a switch (press it once; mute-- press again; on) I think the easiest way is to make one button for mute/on, and an other one for solo. the configuring of midichannels/ cc numbers assigning to sample triggers etc should be easy once you get your box running (with lcd), then you can do this in the menu good luck, marcel

hi don't know if this is helpful but you can enable/disable the multiplexers in the app. I think they are enabled by default though..but check it out marcel

why not publish everything right away when you are ready, there are enough people who don't want to etch and are very happy with a nice pre drilled ready to go pcb. cheers, marcel

you want to be able to select 5 values of a parameter instead of going trough the whole range of the parameter, right? and you want to see which value is selected when you choose a different program/preset? you can make this with 5 buttons and led indicators but you would probably have to write some code so the leds work the way you want

Hey people; I published a page in the wiki on “midifying analog gearâ€. http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=midiboxfx_-_midifiying_analog_gear there is a section about voltage controlled resistors, with example schematics of the vactrol, FET and OTA options. I’ve also made sections for digipots/motorized pots, but these are just copied text from stryd’s summary ealier in this thread.>> maybe someone else can write about the results we have so far with digipots? About the VCR’s; i think it would be nice if the people that are interested take a look at the examples, try to figure out how the circuits work, hopefully do some experiments with them, and then report back here and say what they think of them; pros/cons, limitations and suggestions for improvements or different approaches. If we have some satisfying results (a small VCR circuit with good response, flexible enough to be used in a range of possible situations) we could make a pcb etc. The next 2 weeks i won’t be home much but after that i’ll be checking out the OTA for midifiying some parameters of a diy tr-909kick circuit ... In case of the vactrol; i have a feeling that it’s design is quite flexible, it may only need some adjusting, but the OTA probably needs some extra circuitry. :P Pff, more tomorrow, i’m off too bed

hi; triple check all the connections and look for shorts; you can use the 2 schematics (lcd/core) so you can measure directly at the PIC pins or upload MIOS again (what did you see on lcd with only MIOS), to be sure it's not a mistake you made with the configuration of the MIDIO128. cheers, marcel

i don''t think a lot of people have eagle.sch files of the MBHP circuits, TK uses other software for drawing the schematics if i'm correct. which parts can't you find then? cheers, marcel

possible, yes, i think with ic's in general it's more common to have a "half working" chip then a completely non working one, especially with somthing like a PIC which has a lot of sections. BUT!! i have found PIC's to be very vandal proof if you know what i mean, i have had shorts and other mistakes but i never destroyed a PIC and since you say that exit button is working (you can exit and again enter idle mode?) i think you have a problem on your din board; (faulty 74HC165, shorts/opens, wireing, bad buttons) it is a serial connection so if exit works, i guess your fine at the PIC side cheers, marcel
