  1. Not sure if I should hijack this, or start a new thread.. but my bipolar supply is a fail. I made it basically like what's on the wiki. http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=bipolar_12v_psu&s But, I don't have anything hooked to the negative supply right now, and it hums pretty bad. I think because the load is so unbalanced. I rewired it w/out the center tap (My transformer is a 2x12v, so I can wire it w/ or w/out a center tap) and made a unipolar positive supply, and it works perfectly. Actually while typing this I think I thought of what to do, but maybe someone can tell me if I'm on the right track. I'll just use it as dual power supplies, using the two secondaries of the transformer individually.. no center tap. One positive supply, one negative supply, and connect the grounds together after the regulators. All it will cost me is another bridge rectifier. Does that sound correct? Shuriken, Someone on the DIY Audio forums made a PCB for the filament regulators. I believe the circuit would be the same for these.. I think the pinout and footprint is the same for the various regulators in the lm2267 line. (Double check, obviously). http://www.neurochrome.com/audio/?page_id=361 There's a link to the PCB sales page on there.
  2. Ive made a switching supply, for tube filaments!! That's the last place you'd classically use one.. But it works very well! I used a lm22673. They have this awesome "webbench" tool that basically designs the circuit for you. http://www.ti.com/product/LM22673#toolssoftware Choose a good inductor and final capacitors, and you can get practically no ripple. The webbench tool will run simulations for you, to pick the best components for your voltage/current requirements. I'm building a linear +/-12v and +9v and switching 5v supply right now for my 6582/filters.
  3. You just mean the filter IC's right? not an entire filter? I think I've still got extra 2044's. I can check tonight.

    MIDIbox FM V1.4

    Thanks!!! Thanks!!!
  5. Where'd you get the SD card PCB?
  6. Thanks! Glad I'm not crazy :).
  7. Is that the sync to measure setting? I haven't used my seq in quite a while, but for v3, there was definitely a setting about syncing which affected that.
  8. That's awesome! I almost did the same /w my sid.. but am leaning towards racking my gear now, instead of making it all desktop. If I had a keyboard, I'd have done what you are doing, for sure.
  9. I agree w/ Moo 100%! I gave up on WINE due to bugs. I now use vbox seamless mode for windows apps. About the linux mios version, it's compiled for poopy ubuntu. I'm on opensuse, and it doesn't run for me unless I recompile it for my OS. Throwing it in the windows VM is easier and works, so that's what I've been doing. The new MIOS does pause between uploads.. I haven't seen an option, but if you watch the progress, it uploads, pauses, uploads, pauses, etc.
  10. I give up!! I've refluxed and resoldered every component! they're tiny boards, so not much to check on them. I'm great w/ analog circuits, but PIC's and programming are foreign to me... The analog circuitry side of me can not figure out this issue. It doesn't make sense. (I'm sure due to my lack of PIC knowledge) If anyone can think of anything else for me to try, let me know.
  11. I've compiled old versions of the software, reuploaded MIOS, then reflashed older FM software, reformatted the sticks, and still the same problem. So, now I'm pretty confident the software is not the issue. (Sorry for questioning the developers work, but it seemed the most logical path) What I don't get is even w/ no memory, it shows 5 banks w/ *'s next to them, so it knows there's no memory. But shouldn't it go to 16? Why does it show only 5 banks w/ or w/out memory in there? I don't understand how hardware could cause that, but it must be. I'll recheck everything on both boards.. (I was focusing on the mem section)
  12. I've communicated w/ him recently about a seq panel. I don't think there's a "group buy", but he will sell one to you. He mentioned he doesn't come here often, so try his personal email. And maybe mention there are a few of us who want one now. I'm still trying to decide on color... It's a surprisingly difficult decision!
  13. anyone know where I can download previous versions of the firmware? I'd like to try 1.4 (w/out the b, c, or d) Both C and D had changes to the percussion section. I could be totally wrong, and maybe there is an issue on my board.. But logically... Why can I save anything else to any of the 5 chips, just not drums? And as I said, I tested every connection for continuity, volts, and shorts, and they're all good.
  14. Ok, I uploaded the SID firmware, and it formatted them. Then I re-uploaded the FM firmware and it formatted them again. I resoldered and tested all of the connections. I've changed the order of the memory chips. The problem remains. What's odd is I can dump the drum bank (to a computer), and it records 16 drum patches. But, the FM still only goes to 5. And same as before, I upload and it counts to 16 and sits on 16, but as soon as I change the drum patch, it jumps down to 4, and only 5 are available.. nothing was saved. I'm 99.99% sure it's not anything on the circuit board. I've tested every one of the 40 connections from the memory IC leads to wherever they go, and it's all good. Is there any chance something changed in the firmware since people built these? I can save and dump and load to any of the 5 ensamble or patch banks.
  15. I've seen at least 3 go up for sale here on the forum, in as many weeks.
  16. How do I reformat the memory on the FM? I may be overlooking it, but don't really see info on it in the FM documentation. I'm thinking one chip might be bad, and would like to take on out or move them to other locations and reformat to see if it fixes the issue I'm having. (Sorry for the double-ish post. I figured I should put the specific question in its own thread)
  17. All are populated, and I can save patches to banks A through E. Since drums are working for others, I suppose I'll resolder the sockets and reseat the IC's. Will reloading the firmware reformat them? I'd like to switch their order, as one in the kit had a bunch of bent pins. The rest looked new.
  18. I build the samichFM and finally noticed an issue. I can't save drum sounds. Or upload the drum set presets. When I scroll through the drums, it goes up to #5, but all five sets are the same. When I upload the 16 presets, it counts up to 16 and does sound different, until I try to change the drum set. Then it goes back to the 5. I've loaded/saved the synth presets to several banks w/out trouble.
  19. I use a hardware sequencer (mpc2000) and do the same.. Record it live to a track.. So basically, when switching tracks the first thing that plays back is the bank switch.. Sometimes it does it mid note or something and I get a little glitch, but it's nothing I've ever worried about.
  20. Took about 6 hours of soldering, and surprisingly no problems! I think I like it more than the sid!! maybe it's because all of my other synths are subtractive, and most are mono. This FM it really cool! Only wish I had a full control surface now. Oh, I do have one problem, but it's w/ the patch manager software.. It crashes on my win7x64 machine. It did for the SID too. I used a different sid patch manager to upload to it. How can I upload patches to different banks? Is it possible w/out the patch manager (that's linked to in the presets txt file)? Like, can I just edit the sysex file to tell it bank b? Or is there other software? thanks!
  21. That's fun! I want to get started on my new seq even more, now.
  22. Play should make the other sids play. I'm just guessing, but since your problem is so specific, I'd focus on the core itself. I wouldn't think you'd be able to upload the software or patches successfully if there were a flaky hardware issue between the core and midi in. I'd pull all the cores out, take core0 and set it aside, put one of the other cores in the first position, reflash it as 0, reupload the sid app and see if you can get it going w/ just one core.
  23. Thanks! I'm building a seq4, so will have all my seq3 parts available.. I think I'll convert it to a drum sequencer :D. Where can I download the new firmware? Or is it what's on uCAPPS? (It says it hasn't been updated since last year) Or, is it not available yet?
  24. Is the system booting? The control surface lights up?
  25. TK, are you still working on the drum sequencer PCB? Or I guess more specifically, the software modifications you were talking about in this thread (individual accent)? Thanks!
