Optimized PSU Question for the Schematically Challenged
Smithy replied to Filch's topic in MIDIbox SID
you know what the first search for "bridge rectifier" is? ;) -
Ive recieved mine this morning also. Goblinz i cant thank you enough for putting this order together, i really appreciate it! ;D Im delighted also, that the knobs are as big as i expected them to be from looking at them on screen. :) I think another user thought they were small before, so i was afraid they might have ended smaller than they looked.

Very cool! I remember reading up about this chip not too long ago and hearing some sounds. Its 100% digital sound right?

Optimized PSU Question for the Schematically Challenged
Smithy replied to Filch's topic in MIDIbox SID
This thread should answer some questions, i was clueless myself: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,10388.0.html You need both rectifiers im pretty sure. The reverse voltage is the max amount it can handle asfaik, so 800v is safer. But since we're dealing with a voltage of 12v max, a 100v rating should be adequete. Just make sure the Average Rectified Output current is at least 0.8a, a higher one would be better, and the Recommended Input Voltage is at least 40V. -
Ughhh, i dunno man, isnt that going a tad too far? :-\ Just wasnt expecting to see a dead body on the post when i opened it. :-\ I can understand the anger though.
-
Ughhhh! That looks real fun, it will be the envy of lots of boxers! ;D I want to play with it right now!

nnnn NO NO! lol his alternative url: www.coinoptech.com www.ohiopctech.com It redirects to avishowtech, maybe subconciously it reminded you of coinop, and you forgot it! ;D

Do you mind asking me what country youre from? The post isn't delivered on Saturdays or Sundays here, i didnt realise its different around the world. :)

The Ultimate Wireless Matrix Proto Boards/PCBs for Noobs (i think )
Smithy replied to Smithy's topic in Parts Archive
I just realised now from another thread, that Caps wont work with the tags. Didnt quite realise it when you said it earlier. maybe a quick sticky with advice on tag use would be cool, in case you find having to repeat yourself in the future? Just a suggestion. :) -
I just spotted this on hackaday if its of interest of anyone wanting a cheap cnc mill: http://www.hackaday.com/2006/11/12/make-a-badass-cnc-mill/ The thought of MB-6582 base/control pcbs entered my head, but maybe its too complicated a task to do, and theres the concern of quality and of redoing the artwork, and getting Wilbas apporval etc... One positive i could see is that it could help with the overwhelming demand for them, it was just a quick thought that popped into my head so dont bite! lol Weird, that url so reminds me of smashtv's one!

The Ultimate Wireless Matrix Proto Boards/PCBs for Noobs (i think )
Smithy replied to Smithy's topic in Parts Archive
hehe yeah, i didnt mean multiple tags generally, i should of being more specific! Hehe yeah, i was thinking of matrix because its different to all 3 words, but that could easily get confused then with modulation matrix etc.. so proto it is! You can tell we have the engineer's mentality anyway, even when it comes to tags, we try to make them more efficent, more accurate, and more helpful! ;D Well i guess i didnt, but i will now in future lol! :P -

Thanks for clearing it up! I can see now why its pointless adding multiple tags! I suppose the best tag i could use here is just "pcb" and leave it at that? -

Oh and stryd the seller sells PCBs almost identical to the ones foona used in his seq. The ones where you can bridge the solder over the 0.1" gap, i remember you asking him where to get them. -

How do you mean crazy? I just thought the more tags you add the easier it makes something to find. I was thinking along the lines of keywords/tags on youtube. Is there a problem with adding too many tags to threads? I forgot that some of the words are already used in the the thread, which would come up in the search anyway. So should we have unique words for the tags ya? just asking because im a bit clueless! lol -
I think Q-bus should be JAILED............................ ............for naming it after such an inferior Software emulation! :P

Thanks dude. Is wire wool used for cleaning cooking equipment? I think we call it something else here. Coca cola works really good for cleaning coppper so i might give that a go, my father always dips his copper golf clubs heads in it, and it really takes off all the dirt! Great with coins too. I think i might just order one anyway and use the strip board for an atari punk console or something. -
I found these on ebay last night, not sure if they were posted before, but basically its a hybrid between a matrix board and strip board, with no wiring necessary: http://cgi.ebay.ie/106SW-wireless-circuit-test-prototype-PCB-board_W0QQitemZ310053571634 Because each ring is connected it means you only need to break the copper rings you dont want connecting. So it means you can have a nice clean board without wires hanging out. I found it really frustrating to try and wire components together, because i kept burning the insulation when trying to solder each connection. My stripboard (bought inmaplin) doesnt seem to be able to take the solder, and ive noticed it could be happening because its tarnished in places, its not shiny. These 2 problems almost made me give up on the Optimized Sid PSU, so i think a fresh start would be the best thing to do. For instance when trying to solder the bridge rectifier, i would keep heating and heating the joint and the copper, but solder just would not flow. (unless i shoved the solder against the iron itself). I was heating it til the top of the rectifier felt hot, and it almost broke my heart. I just hope to god the next pcb will take the damn stuff, or i might give up on the project all together.
-
I keep saying the same thing to myself and NOW LOOK AT ME! :P I think ill blame the tarnished copper strip board for not taking the solder and buy a new one!
-
LMAO! I just have done the exact same thing, i wish i read your post to save me the bother! :P I feel your frustration!

yay! ;D

A few newbie questions regarding MidiboxSIDs :)
Smithy replied to unrise_lyrical's topic in MIDIbox SID
Im a bit of a noob practically, but i think i can answer your questions: 1. Yes, you can have different gens of sid chips in each sid module, SmashTV ships 2 Voltage Regulators in his Sid kitsfor this purpouse, so you choose either the 5v one or 9v one depending on your sid. 2. Remember, you need one Core Module to control upto 2 Sid Modules. So you can have any number from 1 to 8 sid modules, provided you have enough core modules, so for 8 sids, youll be using 4 core modules to control them. Read up on the engines in the sid manual to explain what you can have running on the different modules simultaneously, id find it hard to explain that one! 3. I cant really answer this one accurately, theyre both pretty similar, much less wiring with the sid id imagine. The optimised psu circuit is a tricky thing because you dont have a kit for it, if youve done a midibox 64 then id say youre good to go on the sid! -
Sorry to hear about this man. Do you live in an apartment block? If so, then that guy is putting everyone elses lives in jeapordary with whatever lighting system he was using. If youre gonna grow weed, do it in a house that doesnt effect the lives of other people! Im guessing the guy got evicted since this?

2X20 LCD - I'm a (wait for it... here it comes...) newbie
Smithy replied to otto's topic in Parts Questions
Im thinking of doing one soon, ive been on this forum months and still havent the optimised circuit finished. I keep soldering "dull" joints and its pissing me off, im using stripboard instead of matrix which isnt a good idea, and im finding it hard to solder wires between 2 joints, without melting the insulation. Bought a new iron recently and am still getting these dull joints, bah, if i ever get passed this stage of uber-idiocy ill try and write up a really simple step by step guides for even the biggest newbs like myself. Its totally pissing me off. -

I was wondering why the number looked wrong when i posted! It was unlike me not to give into the doubt.
