  1. OK. i've gone through the troubleshooting guide all the way up to TestIN7 which is the standalone optocoupler test. i built the circuit and hooked it all up and i get +5V in both the closed and open positions on the switch. i can only assume that this is at least the problem that needs to be delt with first. i did the MIDI loopback on my Mac and found that the MIDI is in fact working perfectly. when i did the loopback on the core... the LED never went off. in testIN's 3-6 i was unable to get the LED to light let alone flicker and TestOUT1 yielded the same results: no light, no flicker. BUT with the TestIN7. i found that the Optocoupler is most likely to blame do to the fact that whether the switch was open or closed i still read +5V on my multimeter. unless i am missing something, i believe this may be were i need to look to fix the problem... i'm going to have to wait a few days until my new optocoupler arrives, so i'm going to build my 2 Sid modules now and then wait. let me know if i am totally incorrect in my assumtions. thanks for all your help so far guys!
  2. thanks for the encouragement man! it makes me feel less lame. :) i just tested the MIDIOUT from the core with an LED and i got nothin' i.e. no blinks, nada. that makes me wonder if indeed it is the Optocoupler. i'm now going to move onto the MAC side and go through the PC section of the tutorial. i'll post back soon. is MIOS studio and MIDIOX the same thing? i've downloaded a thing called MMJ, another called SysexLibrarian and another Java plug called Plumstone V1.3. is that all i need? maybe i'm missing something on the software side that is causing the problem.
  3. i'm trying not to seem too stupid but it's all so new. i actually barely have a grasp on what MIOS studio is doing seeing as i don't do well will the software/programming side of things. i didn't mean to make it sound like i did the entire troubleshooting guide. that was my bad. i'm using all SmashTV's kits so i know that i don't have to program the PIC. are the "logs" the MIDI in and out monitoring screens? because if they are, i'm getting absolutely nothing in the MIDI IN screen. i have to wait a couple days until the optocouplers come in so i'm gonna have to try other things until then. i totally appreciate your guys' help and i don't want to turn you off to helping me... i'm trying my best to follow your steps Stryd... i took note of them long before i got to this point, just in case. :) i'm gonna start over and then get back to you. thanks again. one other thing, should i unplug the Banksticks and if not, should i build and connect the 2 sid modules before doing this or is only the core necessary?
  4. really? a bad optocoupler. i'll give it a shot. thanks.
  5. that's the problem... i'm not receiving any midi messages from the core. i would paste the logs but they're blank. i honestly don't know a thing about this part of the process. TestProg1 and all 10 TestCore's passed with flying colors. i have to go and buy some more LED's today to be able to test the MIDI out but TestIN1 and 2 passed and 3-7 plus INOUT will be done once i have more LED's. i know it's a MIDI problem i just don't know how to fix it.
  6. i searched the forum, went through the midi troubleshooting guide twice and still nothing. i can't figure out why the core is not talking to the computer in Mios studio. when i power on the core the LCD states "MIOS v1.9F" and then TK's copyright stuff and then it just says "READY." that's it. i have 8 banksticks connected to the core because i thought that may be necessary but no change. i don't really know what to do. please help. super noob!! :-[ PS i'm using a MAC. i'm sure that's probably the problem. ;D
  7. yessss... one step closer. woot! woot!
  8. i say black as well. the other colors aren't necessary for me. plus, i have 2 black OLED LCD modules so black would be nice. :)
  9. i am absolutely stoked about this! i just stumbled on this thread today and can't wait to build one of my own. i'm sooo excited!! i have to finish my MbSID first though but that's exciting too! ;D just as a side note, i would love to get a few PCB's if you do end up with extras for sale! i've never had my own printed so i wouldn't know what to do. :)
  10. if you're going to buy the DIN and DOUT kits then why do you need 2 74HC595 DOUT shift registers and 2 74HC165 DIN shift registers? i'm a noob as well but i thought that these IC's were already part of the DIN and DOUT kits. [edit]i just read stryd_one's post... sorry, i spoke too soon.
  11. add me to list as well, thanks... ;D
