  1. junk
  2. i think i'll just buy me a B/W CRYSTALFONTZ for the MBFM, but when it comes to the SEQ i hope there'll be more interest for the green on black optrex (ultra's pics say it all!!!)
  3. well i'm really not sure about being in the right section here... i'd like (in the future when i'll have some working modules) put some of them (like SID, SEQ, FM, AY...)together in one keyboard, preferably DIY. i've seen the question for a MB based midikeyboard answered several times with the advice to go for a cheap one (e.g. ebay) and put in there the needed MB hardware (because it's cheaper than doing it with MB) on the other hand there's QBAS' scan matrix, even with velocity (would be a good occasion to learn a lot). furthermore some people have built some very nice keyboard controllers (Futureman, reboot). i know i could just buy a doepfer CTM64 for ~EUR99.- but this wouldn't be DIY. so my question: is it really so hard to do for a beginner and will it really be much much more expensive than slaughtering an old DX or CZ that it would outweigh the fun of building my own? (it's no problem if it takes months...)
  4. i have some trouble with the computer atm... ok if we can achieve the $23 price i'm in with 3 but it appears quite unlikely, somehow :(
  5. apart from the auction title the description as well as the pdf say it has 2x24 characters instead of 2x40 ??? btw is KS-0066U the processor we need? there's just KS0066 mentioned in DokuWiki: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=lcd&s ....AND has anyone made some experience with those data image LCDs in the ebay auction i mentioned a few messages above? as they have the right controller (HD44780) they should at least be compatible, but does anybody know about the quality?
  6. ok, i have news from optrex: and it can't be paid via PayPal so someone more Native American than me would be required to do it... ...in case we'd ever be able to reach the 80 :( & of course there will be shipping cost in addition.
  7. yes red on black looks very good and would make our devices quite unique, i believe it's just very difficult if not impossible to find that many people who all share exactly the same imagination about their LCD. so the minimum order quantity for the green on black (which really look great in MB-SEQ) should be easier to achieve... ...but on the other hand having the displays of all your midibox builts in the same color (like red on black, which matches MB6582 very good) would surely be great, too....
  8. how about those? http://cgi.ebay.com/10-DATA-IMAGE-CM4020-40-CHARACTER-X-2-LINE-LCD-DISPLAYS_W0QQitemZ230348376132QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item35a1d54844&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 10 pcs for $63.67 including shipping... if one could expect quality ??? for that price... LCD Type : STN Yellow Backlight : LED Backlight Color : Yellow green White Others ??? Controller / Driver : HD44780 maybe simply try it and share the risk of buying crap? or go for decent quality with crystalfontz? i think it should be possible to find even more than 10 people with the same need (?)
  9. free samples
  10. true, very nice! and a very good documentation on this thread too!
  11. if you type "SY99" in google it brings you plenty of links. this one answers your question at first glance: http://homepage.mac.com/synth_seal/html/sy99a.html the SY99 manual: http://www.retrevo.com/support/Yamaha-SY-99-manual/id/961ag823/t/2/ ...and many links more ;)
  12. well i don't know the prices they usually bring in canada, i just know for germany. earlier this year i purchased several C64s on german ebay for between 8 eur (newer C64, grey keyboard) and 10.50 / 16 eur (breadbin, brown kbd). buying 4 C64s from the same guy i finally had 5 keyboards, 2 working PSUs, 2x6581 chips and 3x8580, but i do not know which chips actually work, will have to test them. probably the price will be slightly higher when it is said to be working. but i can't tell about your price because i don't know about the canadian$ exchange rate. but if he says there's no sound it is at least very likely that there's a problem with the sid. Edit: just remembered that there are always people on ebay who offer pulls. some of them say they're working. here's what i found (quick search): http://cgi.ebay.com/Commodore-MOS-6581-SID-sound-chip_W0QQitemZ290334525365QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item43994947b5&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 http://cgi.ebay.com/6581-R3-SID-CHIP-COMMODORE-64-128-WORKING-PULL_W0QQitemZ290334669189QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item43994b7985&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 http://cgi.ebay.com/2-X-MOS-8580-R5-6581-SID-IC-CHIP-Commodore-64-Station_W0QQitemZ110417965283QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Musical_Instruments_Instruments?hash=item19b56c70e3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 http://cgi.ebay.com/2-X-MOS-6581-SID-Station-IC-CHIP-Commodore-64-MOS6581_W0QQitemZ110418548555QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Musical_Instruments_Instruments?hash=item19b575574b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 this guy has 2: http://cgi.ebay.de/C64-Soundchip-SID-6581_W0QQitemZ110414511074QQcmdZViewItemQQptZKlassische_Computer?hash=item19b537bbe2&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1229%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 tested: http://cgi.ebay.de/MOS-SID-6581-Soundchip-fuer-Commodore-C64-Brotkasten_W0QQitemZ370232218894QQcmdZViewItemQQptZKlassische_Computer?hash=item56338f550e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1229%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 tested, cheap but will send only to EU & CH: http://cgi.ebay.de/C64-Soundchip-6581_W0QQitemZ290330641581QQcmdZViewItemQQptZKlassische_Computer?hash=item43990e04ad&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1229%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 ... and so on, just typing in "6581". "8580" or "commodore chip" may bring more. but you can also take a look at djjonnyjams' SID order thread, maybe there's some left: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,13575.0.html *last edit: ortho
  13. i don't know about an order. but i'm interested in some. i need at least 3 LCD displays at 2x40 for SEQ and FM. color doesn't matter, just compatibility
  14. there are some sound samples that show how the MB FM sounds: http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_fm.html http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,4004.0.html
  15. well should you be able to find a NOS SY99 it surely will cost more than a used one -IF you can find something like that. you can always have built all you need at a reasonable price, which may be very very high... if you're sure to need the SY99 in my opinion it would be the cheapest way to buy a used one from ebay or where you find one and give a few bucks or a box of beer to some good friend so they can open it and clean it everywhere for you. that way you would not be forced to get in contact with whatever there may be attached to it. but i think a custom built (means new, handcrafted) will be the most expensive ever.
  16. they're here!!! :D thanks Wilba!
  17. ok, if you don't need sysex, you can buy whatever USB/MIDI interface you like, the cheapest. :D
  18. you might find something interesting here: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,12720.0.html the small pcb mount tactile switches you probably mean are available in different forms: in different length and with a square shaped button instead of the round one. these are the ones you can put 'caps' on top. there are also digital switches that do not require any caps (the ones Mike sells): the coloured buttons TK uses on the original SEQ, FM etc on www.uCApps.de
  19. there's already a power jack included (at least) in Mike's CORE SET -> http://www.mikes-elektronikseite.de/shop_deutsch/index.htm http://www.mikes-elektronikseite.de/shop_englisch/index.htm just click on PARTS LIST / BAUTEILELISTE or on www.uCApps.de you'll find it with part number: http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp/mbhp_core_orderlist.txt edit: for direct connection to the SIL header take a look at the following threads, the crimp connectors are available at SmashTV's shop: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,2510.0.html http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,11796.0.html http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,11410.0.html
  20. i have ordered one, too. did you guys build it like recommended (all parts on pcb) ? as for the additional features in midi mode, wouldn't it be cool to have a midibox controller designed especially for the WTPA? i will build a case for it anyway because i dislike accessible circuitry, so i think leaving some room for a mb controller section would not cause much effort. but until now i don't have it so i can't say which type of controllers would be useful, encoders, buttons or pots, which means MB64... is there anything like that already planned/intended ?
  21. hi! i'm searching for a simple panel mount tactile switch. when i search the mouser site they bring just the normal small pcb mounted ones. if i search for pushbuttons they show panel mounted ones but just very expensive / vandal proof / backlight / high amperage etc. what i need is something like a panel mount version of the switches Mike offers or sth similar. any ideas / experience? or perhaps i simply use the wrong term when searching ??
  22. ALLES WEG! :D
  23. Wer Interesse hat, kanns abholen kommen, für umme! (Saarland) Es sind noch 3 Printtrafos auf Lochraster dazu gekommen, Abschirmungen von C64's
