After a few months of use with my seq v4L I have decided that I need a few more functions which in my composing will make it about 10x more useful. What I have come up so far as necessities are the following- -figure out how to change the BAR1..4 buttons and LEDs to change between 4 different banks of patterns (which will allow for more variation at the push of a button in my sets while I am tending to other equipment) -add 8 buttons and LEDs who's function will be BAR1...8 (allows the usage of 8 bars and thus more variation in the loop (hopefully)) This will allow me theoretically to have 4 banks of 8 bars a piece which are easily bounced back and forth. As far as coding and hardware requiments will be I am still working on, it has been quite a while since I have worked with code so it may take a little while, but will be worth it if I can get it to work. If anyone would like to suggest anything or bounce ideas for these mod ideas please let me know, since I <3 the midibox community :] -ajax

sounding good :] greetings from southern oregon, i'll be moving up to portland in the next year, glad to know there is atleast 1 fellow midiboxer up there :] also, have any spare OPL3 chips? my area is completely opl3 free -_-', i'd be willing to buy it off yea :D -ajax

todays my 21st XD time to get wasted :D -ajax

edit: nvm ;] -ajax

i'll get one as well, as long as i can get it shipped to the states :] -ajax

1: are you running the lcd in 4 bit mode? highly suggested 2: did you wire one of the sid's SO connections to J14 of the core? -ajax

for more visual effect, could i somehow activate the follow function where it auto switches between the pages depending which one is playing. thanks, much respect :] -ajax

from a proud new owner of a stereo SID v2, i highly suggest building your own ;] well worth the work -ajax

i did a quick fix by just wiring some single 1k resistors to bypass my soldered 10k network, works well ;] though it's a ghetto fix -ajax

okay, one question: overdubbing? would be very useful from a musician's point of view :] -ajax

awesome, keep me in the loop :] -ajax

so I want to build a simple 16x4 BLM for programming drums with and i would like it to connect to my seq v4L, would it work? i've been looking through the used interconnections and it seems that it needs to use J5B, which is already in use by the v4L control surface, is there anyway to work around this? anyone? (and by anyone i mean TK) ;] edit: or will i need another core module to run the BLM? then just interface the seq and blm via midi? -ajax

figured it out after countless hours of troubleshooting, guided by smashtv (thank you my friend), i ended up switching the resistor networks on the core board, didnt even realize there was two different ones ;] -ajax

hmmm, i've been trying to get my seq v4l working for a few nights now, was having the mirroring leds issue, then i found the tip to do the j15_s jumper, after doing this all that happens when it boots is led3-8 flashes twice, i've checked my wiring countless times, redid each of my cords 3 times, and am lost as to what could be wrong, the wiring is pretty straight forward right? any help would be greatly appreciated :] edit: occasionally i'm getting "[185723.317] [MIOS32_MIDI_Receive_Handler] Timeout on port 0x22", what port would that be? edit of the edit: MIDI3 port of MBHP_CORE_LPC17 module is what my spider senses are telling me, just want to make sure though -ajax

SID v2 with a R3A SID module not communicating *solved*
Ajax replied to Ajax's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
figured it out thanks to smashTV, so for future readers this is a BIG part if you dont want random errors: MAKE SURE TO RUN YOUR LCD IN 4 BIT MODE! this means you have to cut four of the wires that would normally be attached between your core and lcd module, as well as a diode and a resistor for what i guess is shorting protection. look at this: http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_sid/mbsid_v2_communication.pdf but yea, one sid module working now, my J9:SC is still messed up for some reason (thinking it's a broken pin on the PIC), so no control surface yet, will wire up a basic CS with the J5 tomorrow though and build my second sid module :D BIG THANKS TO SMASHTV! very useful guy and was more than willing to give time to help me troubleshoot EDIT: I got a new PIC in and it doesn't fix my din issue, investigation will continue for faulty core board stuffs. SUCCESS: so this whole time i've been wiring the DIN module wrong, didn't know that you had to wire to the J1 on the pins that are farther out from the center, feel like a fool, but very happy to have a working control surface, as well as an extra PIC to do something with :D -ajax -
SID v2 with a R3A SID module not communicating *solved*
Ajax replied to Ajax's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
okay, after lots of head scratching and working through my core i have found that my J9:SC and J10:SC (which are connected together) give a 0.58v reading while using the srio interconnection application, though the RC and SO pins on J9 both work just fine, i traced the 0.58v reading back to IC1:RD3, which i then checked for shorts and bad joints, of which i found none. any idea what this might be caused by? i figure this is what is making both my SID module and my DIN modules bug out. is my PIC just dead? guess i'm going to have to pull up some datasheets :P but any help is greatly appreciated :D edit: it's a PIC18F4685 from smashTV, bought a few years ago and has lived in my closet since my first clash with this not working DIN plug, just fyi ;] -ajax -
SID v2 with a R3A SID module not communicating *solved*
Ajax replied to Ajax's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
upon further playing around i added PIC2 and PIC3 which while using the interconnection app gives me a steady 5V on A0 through A4, thoung the D0-7 are giving me nothing at all -ajax edit: i was getting very none stable results from my sid intrconnection tests and found that my pin headers from the core to the SID module where loose, so i redid them and am getting perfect response on the interconnection test and the power reading while running the SID v2 app, though once i plug it into a preamp all i get is some high pitch buzzing, then if i send a midi note to it it gives a quick click that sounds just like a single square pulse, and while the button is held down the hi-frequency noise goes away, but when i release the midi note it gives me another click and the noise comes back, any ideas? additional finding: the static seems to be generated from the midi to usb convertor that i'm using, once i unplug it from the computer the sound stops, also i can tap it and it pops a bit... shiggity :( -ajax -
hey guys, i was wondering if someone wouldnt mind helping me troubleshoot, i recently built a SID module from smashTV (rev 3A), I have the optimal power situation setup (using a 8580), and i was doing the SID interconnection test program, went through pins A0 to D7, and none of them sent me any voltage at all, though the vdd to vss sends me a perfect 9V, and vcc to vdd sends a fine 5V, any help would be greatly appreciated :D, i'm thinking that possibly my inter-core connection is wrong, would it not a be a 1 to 1 connection from J10 of the core (rev 4D from smashTV) to J2 of the SID? just for some additional info heres how i have it wired- J10 J2 - VD- Vc CLK- CLK MU- MU MD- SC Vs- Vs SC- (blank?) RC- RC SO- SO any help is greatly appreciated :D also a random question: would a bit of water damage destroy a LPC? 5 minutes after unboxing my new LPC for my newly built SEQv4L my girlfriend spilled water all over it (while i was flashing it) -ajax

just got my RT204-1 (VER3.0) in today, anode and kathode where switched as well, worked like a charm after switching them :] -ajax

just got my shipment of 2x 8580 SIDs from androSID, they came in great condition and dealing with him was a pleasure, quick shipping as well, a lot fast than ordering from mouser, thank you androSID :] -ajax

that's quite the investment for one project, i just ordered parts last week for three different projects and it came out to a little over 300$, mb seq v4l, SID v2 with two SIDs, and enough parts a few 808 kick drum clones... been waiting a week, going to be atleast another week or two before everything shows... i HATE waiting

heya kogz, do you by chance have any of these left? -ajax
