Hi Peter, no I haven't had a problem with the flat head LED's as I have soldered them in at the very end of the process. Actually when I did the previous control surface, I had to remove the panel approx. 20 to 30 times while searching the fault. At the end I was also struggling to get the panel back on. Hi, I have started a new control surface from scratch, which is now complete and works fine. Cheers orange -
Hi Guys, I am currently looking for some 6582A. Does anybody have some spares he would like to get rid of ? Cheers orange

That's great, generates some ideas immediately :-)....

Hi, I think I have to do some conversion exercise from various formats into the fpd format. But thanks anyway, I thought I could save this step :-) Cheers orange
-
Thanks Nils, I have already used the search engine and can confirm that I couldn't find the fpd fiels. There are some attachements in threads on the adafruit site but all files are in a different format. Or is there a possibility to convert EPS into fdp ? Cheers orange

Hi Guys, I could try this, although I am not sure where to buy this here in London…. Anyway I was more thinking about something not so liquid, that’s why I asked for some kind of grease rather than oil .. I think I will start with petroleum jelly (Vaseline), as it is not liquid. I will also consider to put a little bit of it on the surface of the knobs for a smoother feeling ïŠ I will let you know the result of my experiment. Cheers orange

Sorry, I didn't know where to post other than here.... I am currently looking for the fpd definition files for the xoxbox front and rear panel. I would like to oder some from Schaeffer AG but I don't have the files in the appropriate format ! I would appreciate if somebody could help me out .... Cheers orange

Hi, I think that won't work for the encoders and knobs I use. They really stick together like hell :-) I have to apply something ... Cheers orange
-
Hi, where can I get this magic tool from ? Cheers orange
-
great job :-)
-
that's correct. I will try it before I apply it to all encoders :-) Cheers orange

I think this should be possible. I think professional manufacturers of electronic devices apply a special grease on the knobs in order to be able to remove them some day if the device has to be serviced... I don't want to use oil :-) If nobody has an idea, I will start with industry vaseline, as I have no grease handy at the moment :-) .... Cheers orange

Hi Guys, I would like to buy some grease for the knobs. I need to apply some grease between the knobs and the poti shaft in order to get them smoothly removed without a lot of pressure. Any recommendations are welcome ! Cheers orange

Hi, I am currently working on the following section in the wiki: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=control_surface_troubleshooting Can somebody please explain me how I can create a new sub folder "mb6582_cs_troubleshooting" in the :wiki folder ? I would like to store all the supporting pictures under an own sub folder in order to avoid messing up the main directory... Thanks orange

Hi, when I started my MB6582 project I thought about what my contribution to this project could be. Now I found it - Please find attached the CS trouble shooting guide: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=control_surface_troubleshooting From my experience I can now say that it was difficult to understand the wiring on the CS PCB. It took me some time to get all the documentation together in order to do a systematic troubleshooting. You will soon find all the required documentation on this page in an easy to understandable manner, so that you are able to do a CS troubleshooting efficiently. The page will be improved with some more illustrations and desriptions within the next couple of days. I hope that people will benefit from my experiences and from this documentation. Anyway, I am happy that I have got some support from Wilba and SmashTV in order to find the fault on my board... to be continued :-) Cheers orange -

Hi, after I have now reviewed the different documentation material and I made some summary documentation for a systematic trouble shooting of the CS PCB. I tested every element on the CS PCB. The CS PCB was disconnected from the base PCB during my testing. In total I found 2 dead interconnection points (from the top side to the bottom side) on the PCB, which I could fix. I couldn't find the short on JD8-D3 to D5. But as there are 3 tracks affected at the same time, it is very likely that this is a fault on the CS PCB. I am pretty sure that I haven't done a bad soldering job, especially considering that I check each and every joint with a 10x jewlery's loupe afterwards. I also understand now why some of the switches (connected to JD8-D3 to D5) are interpreted in a certain way, it is exactly because of the short on these 3 tracks and the fact that they share the same GND (because of the short) and the same pin at the JD5. Switches on the same GND track are randomly recognised, depending on which register the firmware reads at that time. I have printed the schematic on a Din A3 paper (which is still too small) and I followed the tracks. There are only a view points where a short of all 3 tracks come close together. To check these points, I have to de-solder a couple of switches and encoders. This will be my last try, if I won't be successful then I will throw the CS PCB away and start from scratch. At least I have learned a lot about the CS PCB now, but still very disappointing that I couldn't find the fault..... Cheers orange -

orange_hand replied to tim_pugh's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
Hi Janis, yes, that's exactly the way I test the board at the moment. The CS board is disconnected from the base PCB and I used the diode test mode of my multimeter. I found out that just 2 switches are not working (SID L/R and LFO Select). Based on this information I found one faulty connector that I fixed. You know the short at JD8-D3 to D5 has the following effect. If you press one of the buttons which is connected to JD8-D3 to D5 then the firmware is not able to distinguish which one that was. It will take one of three .... In practise: if you press for example select 1, the firmware could interpret it as "shift" as they are on the same connector (JD5-D0). Or the firmware could determine that it was "up" as this button is at the same connector JD5-D0).... The only way I see to find the short is to cut the tracks on the board one after the other in order to find the track where the short is. It could be one spot for all three tracks or 2 different spots.... I have already spent so much time, the whole thing looks great but doesn't work properly.... I am short before smashing the whole thing against the wall. You can not imagine how aggressive this makes me .... Cheers orange -

Hi Peter, I have already done this. The only thing I will see with this test is that always 3 LED's in the row light up together. This is because there is a short on the GND side on JD8-D3 to D5, but as you know the GND tracks are all over the board. There must be a spot somewhere where these 3 tracks have got a short.... Hi, I have now spent more time to find the fault on the CS PCB, as I needed to solder it. I could manage to fix the faulty interconnection between the front and backside of the board. But I can't find the short on JD8-D3 to JD8-D5, I spent hours with a jewlery's loupe to find something but without success. I am pretty sure that it is a fault somewhere on the board, as I was very precise when I soldered the components on the board. You can't believe how pissed off I am... I have now decided to throw this board away, as I can't manage to find the fault. I will order another CS PCB and I hope there are now issues on the PCB.... What a shit, all the lost time.... Hi, I did some more troubleshooting and figured out that there is a mistake in the din_wiring.pdf (for the switches) or my CS PCB (from SmashTV) is different. a) The menu switch is connected to JD5-D3 instead of JD5-D4 b) The "filter mode" and "filter osc" switches are swapped Also I found a fault on the PCB, which causes the "SID L/R" and "LFO Select" switch not to work. Now I have to find the short on JD8-D3 to JD8-D5, which won't be easy... I would appreciate if somebody could confirm to whether the din_wiring.pdf is not correct or my CS PCB. I also wonder if somebody could post the link to the latest DOut wiring documentation. The one on UCAPS doesn't match the CS PCB from SmashTV, or I got the wrong doc .... Cheers orange -
Hi Guys, I've got now another set of windows. It looks better than a CD cover :-) Of course I have to clean up the edges a little bit, but then it is perfect ... Greetz orange

Thanks Janis, The material makes it more transparent to me. I hope I can find the faulty spot. Apart from that my family is already pissed off, because I spent so much time within the last weeks to build the MB6582.... Anyway, I keep you in the loop. Cheers Matt
