  1. http://www.rapidonline.com/sku.aspx?tier1=Tools%2c+Fasteners+%26+Production+Equipment&tier2=PCB+Equipment&tier3=Accessories&tier4=PCB+Assembly+jig&moduleno29481&catref=34-3610 Very cool! a bit pricey but hey, one less thing to worry about when soldering. details: you can set your pcb board(s) on this thing and not have to worry about bending your leads.. you set it and forget it! my nerdiness just jumped up 10pts.
  2. hi! i'd be interested in this. would you mind waiting until the 1st of September? just got done buying massive amount of gear. hehe. if not i understand. I didn't know what this project was and i just googled it and fromthe looks of it, its a modular synthesizer? if thats the case.. droool! :)
  3. thanks man, very very eager... :sorcerer:
  4. one of my fav quotes from him is "genius is finding information quickly" I try to live by that to make me feel a lillll smarter . lol cheers, moon thanks i'll need all the luck i can get it! nah, im very excited about building this one :)
  5. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the generosity all of you have shared with me and others. One thing I hate being careful about is looking stupid or asking dumb questions and getting snarky/offensive remarks from trollers or know it alls. I dont feel that one bit from this community. SIDmonster, thank you for the link to the psu enclosure, i've been given lots of good suggestions but this one seemed to really resonate with my noobiness. :) link can be seen here> http://www.google.co...0CK0BEPMCMAk4KA everyone else thank you kindly for your suggestions/recommendations. i have finally ordered the mb6582 kit via smashtv. I'm all set, well almost, i just need to source out the parts for the CS board which i've already done through mouser(saved my basket). but soon as i get the kit i'll go ahead and work on the main board. oh happy dayssss :frantics: :frantics: cheers!!! moon
  6. hi! any updates on this? i'd like to be included if possible :)
  7. holy cow. hehe it still looks cool.
  8. cool bro, I'm always curious what other type of gear y'all midi gurus are into. I think i see an eb un flut in your rack +1 :)
  9. love the intro sequence  has that awesome 80s vibe! stupid question but is this a demo of a midibox seq? (nice set up from what i can see btw)
  10. hi Janis! thanks for the help. I'll have to revisit your suggestion as i didnt understand most of it. lol =( still a noobie hehe. thanks! regards, moon
  11. I always have trouble reading schematic diagrams.. i dont know what the heck i'm looking at.. Im sure i dont need to know the details, but its just nice to know :) how to read schematics 1 how to read schematics 2
  12. "PROUD to already have bugged tk about 12 sid" hehe It would great to have em all sound the same when i run chords, but if it doesnt work out for this project, i can wait til my next one. :)
  13. EXCELLENT! :D thanks!
  14. hi sidmonster, I'm willing to try anything that has been tested :) I'm not sure where i would place the components you've mentioned on the main mb6582 board? this is helpful though thank you. MOon
  15. hi guys thought this might be helpful to anyone else who had questions.. i contacted the dude who has a crappppppppload of chips (pm me if you want his contact) in a nutshell, as long as the reviisons are the same i'm o.k. he mentions that filtering might sound different but i'm not too concerned about it.. heres the quote: There are basically two different version of the SID chip: 6581 and 8580 (== 8580R5). (The 6581 exists in 3 revisions: R2, R3 and R4(AR) but the differences are not in the sound but in the electronical interface!) Some years ago there was a myth that 6581R4AR are superior but to be honest: That's completely bulls***! ;-) But I charge more for 6581R4AR as people sometimes want them anyway and they are much harder to get than 6581R3 or 6581(R2). The 8580R5 is very stable in regards to sound. That means that one 8580R5 sounds identical to another - no matter when it was produced! (R5 means revision 5 of the silicon die by the way). The differences - if there are any are only in the filters. That means that you won't hear differences when no filters are used. (No BP, LP, HP). 6581 is another thing: Each chip can sound different - even when produced at the same time and in the same batch. For stereo application the 6581 is inferior to 8580R5!
  16. *blush* sorry, i don't really get that statement of hearing the grass growing. meaning you guys have good judgement and i should have y'll take a listen when the time comes? I'm gonna try to match them up by buying more chips. if i end up with 2 different 6581's i wont mind.. but i do want my 8580s to match. sigh.. bummer.. =( thanks though.
  17. yipes that's sort of a bummer.. i hope i dont run into issues with sound output consistency! if it helps here are the chips i have CSG 8580 R5 1190 25 CSG 8580 R5 4889 25 CSG 8580 R5 0791 25 MOS 8580 R55 4587 25 MOS 6581 CBM 1185 MOS 6581 CBM 2185 MOS 6581 R4AR Q187 14 whew....

  19. why didnt i see this? lol thanks man!!
  20. you're right, it's just a lil confusing when they talk about splitting 9v to turn into 12v...... my eyes were crossed by that time. the bridging of pins made sense to me but um yeah. lol thanks
  21. that sounds intriguing... immensely.. is there a universal psu out in the market from which i can purchase? thanks shurken.
  22. to clarify, when you say 'same revisions' are you talking about the letter and number following after 6581 "R5" ? if thats correct, does that mean i shouldn't mix two 6581 chips that have different "R's" on em? =(
  23. yeap that's what i'm aiming at! I figure it won't be difficult o 'bridge' some of the pins as directions stated. I'm a lil scared just for the facgt that i'm a beginner? let me rephrase, i'm relatively beginner. I literally just finished my first soldering project with a x0xb0x. so i'll probably rate myself a 87% in soldering... i haven't yet tried surface mount soldering but i dont think i'll need to for this project? thanks!!!
  24. Hi Peter! this is good to know! i thought to my understanding that the psu was some esoteric object that we had to use.. do you have any recommendations for modern psus? i bought one for the sammichSID from jameco? something like that perhaps... thank you!, you will be seeing a lot of me coming soon. :P cheers! Moon
