  1. I think it's called Live:bolic or something now. Have a look on the Create Digital Music blog. There was a recent article about setting up a Linux studio. And Ubuntu Studio is a live CD too IIRC.
  2. I would have to agree. A page at a time is much more likely to get working results than a shotgun approach to the whole site. However, I think it is useful to still have a "TK approved" official page up for each project, perhaps with a link to the equivalent wiki page for updates and extended content. I realise that you might not have the time to continuously update each project page, Thorsten, but at least we know that what is up on ucapps is the canonical biblical truth, so to speak. A wiki could get out of hand. I'm not saying a wiki page for each ucapps page is a bad idea, just putting in my vote for not taking down the originals.
  3. Rilly? K... We should catch up and have a beer and a design natter.
  4. Do what the PC casemodders do - use vinyl dye instead of paint. It soaks into the plastic.
  5. Not exactly, but close - ubuntu. Or indeed ubuntu studio, which is set up as a ready to go multimedia (inc music) studio
  6. Hmmm. My guess would be the FM, as there were some semi-decent Hammond sounds on the Yamaha DX synths.
  7. Ah, I see. I was mostly putting it out there because of the DACs they use. That seems a pretty good price for the specs! Pity about the tiny pins but maybe it's workable? Cascadeable serial - does that mean it can be fed from one/two PIC pins? Could the opamps be moved to another board? Or some of them? IE a 4 or 8 channel implementation with optional plug in opamp board?
  8. From the "Making sound with a Core" thread: ???
  9. Typical ::) Um, my great grandparents were Irish?
  10. Free samples Big list of companies that will send sample components, along with some discussion on method.
  11. Ubuntu Studio looks great. thanks for bringing that to my attention.
  12. And/or some seriously cheap MB64e front panels. BGMs site is giving me the slnits. I'm off to bed. Let you know when I've placed the order
  13. Just discovered the CANANA project: PDF HTML (mangled by Google)
  14. Wow. When in doubt go to the source!
  15. How about CAN? Thorsten's just posted that he's evaluating a CAN capable PIC. Do you have a link for this chip? And it's 12 bit +/- 2 bit? Woohoo!
  16. Except for the analogue ones ;D I like your idea; I had similar ideas of a MIDIbox backplane and modules as edge connector cards. But that would mean a total redesign of every board. CAN sounds simpler, for control data anyway.
  17. You have both? Do you have access to a data logger or an oscilloscope? ;D ;D
  18. Yay! Well that works for everyone then. I was thinking of ordering one from their site after I saw the link above then putting a MiniITX board in a MacPlus or my busted '60s valve oscilloscope with a tiny LCD
  19. WOOO! Motorfaders and PLEDs for everyone!!
  20. So it's a fake? Cool! Something to do with all those dead Commie shells... Did Commodore ever actually make something like this, or is he making it all up out of thin air?
  21. I wouldn't say that. Drivers There are a lot of unsupported or semi-supported cards and chipsets, but there's a lot that are supported. How to Set Up a Linux Recording Studio - more for advanced Linux/beginner audio people.

    About step B

I don't know what you mean by two channels per wave.
  24. Hey, good idea, if possible. After reading cheater's wishlist above, I had this little dream: One UI to run both the SID and FM as a single synth. Taking the SID OSCs and the FM as the base oscillators, and running both through the SID FILT and/or added filters. With integrated LFOs, etc. Perhaps by making the FM board and core a slave of the SID CS 3. Dave Smith eat your heart out. <homer>GLAAAaaaarrrrgh</h> TK of course will build what works for him - remember kids, we can build too!
  25. Hey the exact three distros I was going to suggest. Head over to the Create Digital Music blog and hit the "linux" tag" And if you have more than one box, you could check out MOSIX - but that would be for advanced Linux users, because you'd have to build it into the kernel. I kind of know what those words mean, but I wouldn't have the foggiest how to go about it. ???
