You can all help me by sharing your thought about panels... like what do you think about material used... painted steel, aluminum, what colour, screen print or laser engraving. Everything can be done, it is just matters of what most of the interested people wants. I prefer panel in colour, but same time I think only black suits to all of people. If making custom panels is my business i would make some pallet but it is not possible to have more than one colour for this batch. I will offer an upgrade later (custom panel or casing and illuminated buttons but not before I finish mine x0x) Also, it would be great to screenprint the panel in 2 colours... for instance on non-black panel it is best to have black outline and white keyboard buttons. There is alot of options. First, I`m not sure would you prefer cheaper and decent panels or best as can be made. Maybe I should make separate thread and poll to collect your votes when I have more info from supplier and cutting company. Until then we can speak here about it.

Just to let you know... I was waiting for the salary for las month, so I can do another test panel out of aluminum. It finally arrived. :) Last test panel (red) had an error (forget to match the holes with new button alignment) It was made out of steel which is nice if you want to paint it, but powder coated aluminum will be better solution as it can be laser engraved which probably makes it cheaper than screen printing... need to check. Another thing is panels will probably be water cut instead engraving as aluminum cannot be lasercut as steel. Laser company get themselves water jet machine now and they told me the price is the same as laser cutting. Big problem her is there is not much companies that are specialized for front panels. The only one company that I know doing front panels out of mechanical engraved anodized aluminum is very expensive. So, I need to get material from South and ship i to North of country. I have a little problem as cutting company prefer to cut everything out a big sheet of aluminum but it cannot be shipped by currier service, only by car. I am waiting for their answer about possibility to supply them multiple sheets having 4 stacked x0x panels on one sheet. That would be easier for cutting service and for me too as hopefully panels of that size can be shipped by currier service. I`m only afraid that bigger panels can be bent or something. As you can see producing panels here can be cheaper but it takes some strategic planing that can be problem if you don`t have a car. Also all that takes money to realize, not so much but for me it could be a problem. I`m still thinking of way to make it out of steel and painted myself before screen printing. It will probably be bit expensive than I initially planed and will take some more effort from my side to paint it (I don`t own dust proof painting chamber even my father have good paining compressor) I will check how much pro painters would charge for that. I`m really trying to cut the costs as much as I can. One more thing... having the panes made out of steel will be more expensive to send as it is few times heavier than aluminum. Good think it is not very big. I know I didn`t gave you much input details but what do you think about it all. What would you like. Only anodized aluminum is out of deal.

Ganchen, As Prof offered big bulk order from Digikey and as he did me a favor receiving some money over on his paypal account I would rather get it from him. Still waiting for an answer. If Prof not doing that order I`m in if I don`t late.

I`m having problem match colours and look of different manufacturers myself. Some making nice pointerless knobs like Albs but dont make decent looking pointer knobs. I believe he put what he got. Are those corner protectors on picture for this controller Cimo?

Two sellers on ebay -- both from HK -- are selling counterfeits. goodbuy711 and hongkongsuperseller. Both appear to be the same person as one has an ebay store known as PARTSPIPE and the other one is ALLPARTSPIPE. Their Motorola transistors are ALL counterfeits -- not real tough to see why when you look at the pictures. They also list some Fairchild transistors as well as GE/RCA transistors -- also counterfeits. I would guess many of the Toshiba's and other manufacturer's components are fake as well. There is more this kind of posts all over the internet. I dont believe some jealous people are trying to destroy their business Well, I personally ordered from goodbuy711, and received from HKSS. If I order from Mouser and receive the parcel from Farnell that is wrong. But in that case I should receive from the seller I bought from. I don`t say theat is the reason to think parts I bought are fakes but makes me suspicious especially because so much rumors about HKSS Well, it is not that we have troubles understand each other, more like very bad quality of communication. not replying on ebay not emails. And after much time his "secretary" get back to me saying he is on a vacation... It is strange if he don`t replay for weeks and dont say in his shop he want be shipping like others do, and secretary should inform me bit faster, and not after few weeks. ??? Not so long ago I bought 3blade Gillette in big serious supermarket and couldnt even start shaving. The fakes not just coming hidden deep in some ship, and sells on strange places they appears everywhere. I think people should be specially aware of it and take care when ordering something from ebay where you dont even see actual photo not to mention the parts. I was happy I found inexpensive parts and order it right away, and now thinking I should think about it bit more.

I didn`t have idea these kind of things are happening! >:( I ordered some trannies for my x0xb0x from hongkongsuperseller and now I starting to be suspicious they might be fakes. I noticed my seller is that guy just after I received transistors. He obviously have more than one ebay account. Why? :-\ Also, communication with him was bit strange.

That OLED matches much better with rest of synth than blue one. I think negative red from Orient Display would look even better. I love the mistery wood sides! Very nice. I`ve always feel I`f I get the Waldorf, the first thing I would do is to take off that cheap looking red data wheel off and rather put my oven knob on than leave it like that. That knob looks like made in china from 10 meters. ...I know it`s Albs ::)

Thank you Rob I think it is intuitive too, but my intuition might differs from others. The reason for thinking there is not much space must be increased by optical illusion that is created by knob skirt.

First, I wouldn`t say it is ultra-compact. The dimensions are 563x253. The reason for compacting is very simple. I live in shitty country where I cannot afford to buy myself a car. So, I think... if I need to drag some gear with me, I better make it compact. Music is my hoby, I`m not famous musician nor DJ who is earning money out of it and who has payed transportation expenses. I printed out this mockup file and put on top knob samples Prof sent me, and I can say it is not unconformable as it looks. The knobs (Re`an P670) are 11.5mm in diameter and just skirt is 16mm, so they have 15mm clearance around each knob. I find it pretty good. My fingers are really not that fat. ;)

Thank you Vlad. I could offer construction kit but I dont have plan to make all in one Wilbabeast style controller. LED bars have nothing to do with buttons, if they are VU meters it could make sense. Let me explain... You see, I`m right handed, and when I operate fader I cover the button area, where you wanted to put LED bar, with my hand so it is completely unuseful. Ergonomics is most important factor of my every design. Having the LED bar left by the fader is very important and logical as it shows actual fader position in software and fader itsef is "snap to" and it want always be in same position as LED bar. So, having both LED bar and fader visible is very important. After alot of combinations I found this placement very useful. I wouldn`t say confusing, but they are definetelly braking the separation. I did few designs with a line left from the LED bar but I decided this simpler look I like more. You know, I`m strugling with my military straight, perfectly symmetrical designing. I think I make this controler looks straight enough and just a bit freestlyle in same time. Yes, I never design rack units. They simple dont fit me.

Thank you both. ;) Unfortunately, they don`t. Big, serious manufacturers obviously dont want to design so dedicated controller for only one software as not all using Live, or Traktor. Making it universal they take widest target group and only specialization for specific software are lexan layouts. Let they steel it. If I am manufacturer I would take all precautions steps, but as a DIYer it makes not much sense. Maybe one day some of them sees my potentials and employ me. I like to think tat way ;)

Oooo, her beer must be hot too.. :P I bought all the parts locally. It is cheap, no point paying shipping, import customs taxes VATs and shit for that. Absurd is that harder to get is tha parts that are still in production and thay are stocked by Mouser and Digykey. But, as Ganchan and Prof offered help with ordering these I don`t think we have serious problem. I believe there is more US based people that are willing to help us getting these.

Thank you for warning me Simone. I bought USB 2 hub, so using few USB 1 devices with it shouldn`t be a problem. Maya44 is USB 1 and USB MIDI interface is also v1. Anyway, I will try it extensively before integration, but I can always buy better hub. The one I bought wasn`t cheapest but all I found seams pretty cheap. Up to 10EUR.

PCBs arrived and they looks right this time. Now is the time for Digikey and Mouser orders. Ganchan, I get one more PCB. So, you can have it. ;) PS. This beer is really hot now, but it feels nice anyway. ;D

Thanks David. Not sure what is Halo rings but white circles are acrylic subpanel that holds pots. I would like to illuminate it if I have time to do it. It takes time if you want to do it right (not like Korg Zero! ...beter) If not it still looks better than just plane black panel.
