Everybody can build good box, it is just a matter of taste and alot of effort rather than money. But seams not enough people are motivated. The point is.. everything is important whether it is DIY or factory made product! The look, sound, mechanical construction, ergonomics, artwork part selection... People here used to say if somebody made something really good quality... "He made it as for himself" So, we can all make our boxes really for ourself, and better than "real thing". ;) I dare you to do it.

just enough so you don`t get annoying reverb. Exactly. If you are teenager practicing in some atomic shelter or basement what else is better for the price. Sure, carpets are lot better but how many egg boxes you can actually buy for 1 square meter of carpet? Probably enough to dump whole practice room. That is the point. I don`t say Manu Delago is some poor teenager that cannot afford real practice room, but reason why people are using these egg boxes is obvious. And, you don`t need Music Tech degree to figure it out. ;)

...or as long as you don`t gave to troubleshoot it. Man, I did few times something that wasn`t so neat inside and it is hell to understand what is happening. To make it good inside as it looks outside is very important. Not for other people, but for owner whether you need to fix it or upgrade it which is the case sooner or later. But I agree that packaging is selling the product. There are so many crappy products on market that looks nice so you say... I want to buy it. Bad. The guy laser guy told me to call him tomorrow morning and see is the test panel done and will he ship it same day. >:( Man, dealing with you is pretty difficult. I say it from few experiences from past. You tent to disappear and just show up and say... sorry I wasn`t around. I had trouble identifying your payment about x0x also, and you didn`t check your mail regularly. Same as before. So, to inform you. If your email is la-denree@xxxx.xx you payed for 1 PCB set. I`m still having it as all other PCBs and I`ll ship it with panels. If you wish to receive just PCBs send me PM and I`ll send it to you tomorrow.

Mike, I`m going to make my first box also pretty standard. Maybe I`ll just paint it other than black. I just really wanna get one fully functional first that is packed in box. I already have few houseless projects. I can always take it out and rehouse in some more decent enclosure, as it deserves. I also like how x0x looks with those retro knobs on black panel... ...but that knobs on your valve tester are hyper retro! :)

I say... use 10M. ;D Not so seriously But, Nils is right. If you don`t want to be Stevie Wonder one day use 10k. ;)

Outrageous. Quality bit cost more than that. If you managed to cut just bread with it it pays itself off. :)

Pascal, those boxes might look good but it is hard to tell with those headlights. I`m blinded just by looking at that picture. I`m starting to think it is more about display than sound. Are you willing to post some daylight or powered off pictures?

Chris, welcome aboard. You see, you can use cheap buttons or expensive , or extra expensive. Same with faders, displays, enclosure, knobs. Modules itself are inexpensive, especially if you make your own. But If you are beginner i advise you to order some from SmashTV. I can tell you it can easily cost more than 1000EUR but I think not much of us here payed more than few hundreds. If you want to build it to save some money than better chain few commercial motorized consoles. But if you have will, to make your own that satisfies your specific vision of perfect controller than start reading now. For start check the gallery to get some inspiration and see what people did by far and check the projects and you`ll know which suits you. If you have a problem just ask here on the forum, but as Doc said, no one will do homework for you. ;) It is alot of info but things will start being clear to you eventually. Good luck

... and Dremel should be award? ;D I`m not sure have I ever really need it but more than few times I asked myself... "how did I lived without this?" As wise men say... you never knew you miss it until you get it ...well, sort of. :P I guess I just learned to improvise ::) Never enough money for tools.

Yes, better recycle. It is pretty easy to took it out, and it is cheaper than ordering. And you get that nice soft touch cap. I recycled full box of those but still didn`t find right project for it.

I used to modify C64 cases few times but I didn`t wanted to buy Dremel as I know I want use it much. So, I drilled number of 1mm holes across the cutting line with small hand held driller I use for PCB drilling, and after opening the hole, I just filed the edge and sanded it. C64 plastic is great for moding. Almost like working with woods, can be shaped nicely. Here is the proof... I fill this hole with piece of acrylic and after some hour of sanding and painting I say it is pretty good.

I wanted to make one myself, but in my country we use different kind of gas tank. It`s diameter is smaller and it has stand welded onto bottom. At first I thought it can be made out of barbecue top part as hang drum reminded me alot of it but I`m not sure. Maybe is just important that individual cutout pieces are right size.

hey el-bee, nice to see some progression. How far did you gone with PCB? I see some unsoldered pads... I burned the code with USBtinyISP and avrdude. I didn`t setup anything but as I get program response fuses OK I thought all went right. Did you get some error for fuses? I Didn`t tested AVR yet so don`t know is it really working or not. That is unusual way of thinking, but I like it. ;)

I don`t believe you need to make dedicated webpage with different angles of photos and full description. If you really think it is necessary I can help you create one, or crop, optimize photos or whatever if you have no time. Just give me some details/material.

x0xb0x Bulk parts order Reloaded. (to Digikey, Mouser, etc).

Lets not forget Mike offered to check 500pcs of 733`s for hfe so each of us gets even part of high gain trannies. I did it with 120pcs the other day and it wasn`t fun. ::) -
Hahaha.. you sound like me now. ;D Friend and I just talk about your experiences Italians the other day. We get to conclusion that we must be same people just different country. Sorry you are pissed off, but thank you for all your tries and time. I hope everything will went good with Prof`s efforts. ;)

It is very common DIY way of dumping the practice rooms walls, at least in my country. Yes, that is real name. People are also making it DIY way out of gas tanks. Sounds close but not the same. I believe proper tuning is not an easy task. I`ve seen how professionals doing it with pan drum. EDIT:DIY Page about propane hang drum: http://www.ehhs.cmich.edu/~dhavlena/for-webpage-lp-hang.htm

With pleasure. I hope you enjoyed. ;)

x0xb0x Bulk parts order Reloaded. (to Digikey, Mouser, etc).

Mike, I really appreciate every help that you are offering here but i don`t believe it makes sense you bother with those resistors and common part like electrolytes. Everybody can find those locally and it is fairly inexpensive. It is not like we need 1000 of them for x0x. We need to shop some more common pars locally anyway so please dont complicate things for you very much. I really don`t expect you send us all the parts as we could expect from ladyada. Doing a Digikey and Mouser bulk and getting all rare parts is already almost as we are getting full kit. But suit yourself. I`m satisfied whatever you decide. -
I must share this with you... I am totally blown away by this hang drum virtuoso and his tune. Absolutely beautiful!!! :) I must admit I never seen this instrument before. I never liked pan drum sound very much, or i never liked those calypso melodies but this thing... :-X I would love to see this guy live.

I know just it isn`t Fairchild.

This IS really good news. I already answered you over email. ;) Thank you, but are you out of your mind??? Some quality multimeters might have better transistor testing socket, but on mine 2 cheepos this is not an easy nor quick task. That is fast compared to 11 weeks they give you for Grayhill. Grayhill said 4-5 weeks and it will be in Digikey. They even advised me to place an order trough Digikey. So, maybe we should do it as we are already ordering other parts from there. Fair. I hope I can still get more of those 536 :) Thanks alot for all your efforts! And, mean it.
