I really need to have all the panel related parts to continue with it. It is on hold for now. First x0x I`m building without much customisation. After I get it working I will continue with custom parts.

Plog, welcome aboard. Nice entry! ;) Thank you very much. I don`t find use of it right now but I`m sure I think of something when I build it. Why you needed the MIDI over LPT?

Update: Some News (My Beloved and soon to be MB64)
Sasha replied to Pablop's topic in MIDIbox of the Week
Hmm, we have different name for the material that goes at the back of the furniture. But those two really look alike. I was really disappointed what laserman told me about cutting MDF problem as I really like that material. I find it great for alot of projects and it`s surface is superb. I made some nice furniture out of MDF and there is no any joint or screw visible... like it was casted. I really love it! I rather rely on laser beam than on the unsharp eye of an carpenters, needless to say you cannot realize small and complex cuts without thin cutting tool - laser beam. I never tried waterjet machine for MDF. Pablop, sorry if I gone much off topic. I`ll behave. -
Update: Some News (My Beloved and soon to be MB64)
Sasha replied to Pablop's topic in MIDIbox of the Week
Pablop, are you sure that material is MDF? I`m asking it because MDF is not a really carton, it is more fine grain wood dust mixed with alot of glue. My laserman showed me some cutting result of MDF (bit thicker than yours) and it wasn`t very good. Apparently MDF have big percentage of glue in it so it is not so good for cutting. Process is slow and generates alot of bad smoke. :-\ -
MIDIbox of the Week (MBSEQ V3 in a 2U case made by Julien)
Sasha replied to TK.'s topic in MIDIbox of the Week
Congratulations Julien. Well done! It looks very neat and comfortable inside :) Makes me wanna put something more in it. Maybe some IIC modules if you need to drive more than one synth. But, my greatest compliment goes on front panel... no visible screws! :D I see from the back some threads. I supose those are blind threads wilba is talking about. Is front panel made out of 2 panels? I used to make threads myself but the both, 1 or 3 part threading tool needs to go all the way trough hole. How did you make those threads? ??? -
If only all of builders like that it too, it would be much easier for me as I can do everything on one place and one machine. I`m still waiting for 2nd test panel from cutters. >:( I just called them again and they said they had some big job for Germany so they couldn`t do it earlier. They promissed they `ll do it in Monday, but they already brake few promises. We`ll see.

Mike, thanks for that PDF.

Please post some pics and experiences with bending. It can be tricky.
-
Thank you Gan. It is really nice knob! I like it`s rough surface. Seams it is perfect for gripping. To bad they can`t be ordered. :-\
-
Hey Ganchan, can you post a close-up photo of those knobs? I always like how those knobs looks, but never seen it from short distance. Are they soft touch? Maybe is possible to get a replacement knobs from Waldorf even replacement parts are usually more expensive.
-
Top one looks good. It is made out of aluminum compared to original x0x Davies knobs. I would really like to find one without fixating screw... for D shaft. I hate to see those screws... they never look discreet or at least if they are black. EDIT For those who would like to make x0x that resembles original...

MIDIbox of the Week (MBSID V2 Keyboard Version made by Alkex)
Sasha replied to TK.'s topic in MIDIbox of the Week
;D ;D ;D Thank you for posting more photos. I like the messy internals! :) This Is one of few ugly but same time very beautiful boxes that I`ve seen here! -
Have you received samples of other colours too? It is hard to tell from the picture the real tone of that red color. I`m asking because Prof sent me the samples of all Re`an colours but all except yellow and blue looked pretty much ugly like they used some cheap low quality pigment for it. Red wasn`t usual red as we know it from other gear, orange wasn`t orange... White and gray of course looks as expected. So, I`m interested how are those coloured Sifams. Regardless of pointer colours I`m in for white or gray bullets for x0x and pretty sure local builders would like to have them too, so at least 10 sets here. I think we should make wiki page so each of us can add his name and quantity of D shaft and splined type. Also, we should check with Prof if he is still willing to organize bulk within UK and include it with the rest of bulks he is running for us. But before that we need to know are we only 2 that like these knobs or there are others ;) Thank you for posting those pix ;)

It is good you continue working on this controller. I like the wooden sides. Looks it is plywood, but still good. I think having all knobs silver would make this box much, much better and neater. Where did you get those fader hex screws from? I don`t agree with that. There is alot of DIY projects to prove selfmade gear can look same and even better as factory made. There is nothing that can`t be DIY these days.

MIDIbox of the Week (MBSID V2 Keyboard Version made by Alkex)
Sasha replied to TK.'s topic in MIDIbox of the Week
Even this moding is not so fine and precise, I really love it! :) Please wright some more about how it is realized and some more photos would be nice too. -
I guess you are talking about Mouser or Farnell? $25 is great price especially for group order. Who is eligible to use flat rate shipping? Only those with registered account? I would like to know can you send it as a gift in that case, or you must send it with a receipt as you are sending it trough your company? I would rather pay VAT to you, and not local VAT + import taxes + customs check fee + local delivery from customs to my house. All that I need to pay when parcel is not a gift and if it is coming from a company. I think that would be great. That way we could save on shipping. If you need, I have registered project at mouser, and you can use it for ordering the parts that mouser stocks. Some common parts might be missing from the list because I have them in local shops but I need to check it. Does that type fits the footprint of ones needed by x0x. If they fits Wilbabeast they fits x0x too. Another good offer. :) I find this long searched jack for a very good price. Very common type of jacks on factory gear but pretty hard to find (at least for me) It looks very minimalistic and much better than any other that I`ve seen including those Neutrik you offered but it don`t fit all the designs. I want to use it on my MB808. http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=576 Each one of us here did all kinds of stupid mistakes. Sometimes I just can`t believe what I did and start laughing at myself, or cursing if I damage something. I usually make mistakes if I`m excited about what I`m making and can`t wait to finish it. I have smile on my face, imagining it working and doing sh** with soldering iron. ::) I would be honored to give you some lessons If I could. I don`t even have an advice until I see something and I can say what would I change. I said once how I realize my designs... I usually have no money to order all I need and start building something soon, so I have plenty of time to draw and develop the idea while waiting. Another thing is I`m sick of perfectionism, so each time I look at my design I say: hmm ...not good enough, and continue working on it. Eventually, after alot of time and not good enough`s, I become satisfied with what I did and actually start doing some serious preparation for crafting. So, I dont see myself as someone specially talented, I think I just have good taste and work hard to satisfies my perfectionism. Also, you have to have great need to do something exceptional and better than it is usually seen among DIY people. Reward for effort is very good and it pays off at the end. :)

You should tell us what part it is about but I as I guess it is about 2 types of potentiometers or some kind of switch, one with bushing (bigger diameter) and one without it (smaller diameter) so while putting the pot with bushing, it makes it`s way trough the smaller hole by clearing (making hole bigger with bushing thread).
-
Cool! I will do something similar to the MB808 PCB. Do you have some panel design to show now?
-
It is obvious that something change the txt file after uploading. Same problem. I think you better use your stick as you mentioned.
-
Well, I renamed the file that I attached and it is opening, but when I did same with the downloaded file it says corrupted. Here is take too. x0xDigikeyBOM(2).txt x0xDigikeyBOM(2).txt

You cannot laser cut Silicone, but you can screen or tampon print it.

Here it is. x0xDigikeyBOM.txt x0xDigikeyBOM.txt

I see there is a DIY parts at sparkfun. I wonder could it help me get my girlfriend interested in electronics. ::)
-
You should get some usage instructions with it. For rubber pads I would clean the surface with alcohol and use small painting brush to apply it. I dont believe there is some special process. I hope it is not for sparkfun buttons. If it is, please tell us so we don`t buy it. EDIT I just find the line: Good luck

Tobsen, that sounds nice. But, are those sounds coming from MB or it is TR808 and some other FM synth?
