  1. We can quite easily adapt the project for multiple device compatability. I have already done layouts for: Input Buffers Board of 16 inputs (Balanced input, unity gain, suitable for balanced line or guitar use (I think- pending testing)) Output Buffers Board of 8 outputs (Unfortunately due to it being done on Eagle Light with size restrictions, etc. again unity gain) As well as crosspoint matrix boards for MT8816 DIP 40 AD 75019 I also started a board for MT8816 PLCC 44, but this is a pretty horrible package layout to work with. I also did a board for the AD 8113, but we all seemed to go cold on it largely due to price. the boards are kind of in a holding pattern, while I/we figure out the best way to interface them with the core, so as to give best results for everyone.
  2. FWIW: I also did not connect the LED pins on the LCD board. Ordinarily the core board drives the two LED pins A and K via the brightness pot, etc. Since the LCD I used in this case was EL backlit, these pins are not needed. To ensure that the LCD didn't put noisey 400Hz tone on the A and K lines, I disconnected them. Probably not needed, but there you go. Also: please do be very careful of the voltage out of the inverter.
  3. very nice. Plus it has the nod from the big guy. (I mean Danny Carey, not the big guy!)
  4. damn those are hot! Nope, but I sure am interested!!
  5. This is the model I used: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EL-GLOW-GAUGES-INVERTER-ACURA-INTEGRA-LEGEND-VIGOR-TL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43952QQihZ020QQitemZ300239165950QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Hope this helps.
  6. You can absolutely use the TO-220 package version in place of the TO-92, if that's all you can get. That said, the reverse is usually not true. So if anyone is thinking of using a TO-92 78L05 to run a CORE, don't. As you've said, the difference is mostly one of available current before overheating, which in turn is linked to the ability to attach a heatsink to the TO-220. You definitely will NOT need to attach heatsinks to these regs if used on a pic burner module. It is not unusual for a reg to run warm, but for the burner; if they get that hot, there's something wrong.
  7. Hey ho. Just a little curious what the MAX1044/ICL7660 is for? - It isn't need for negative contrast, since this LCD uses a positive contrast Vo (check the eBay listing)... - It certainly won't provide the kind of 400Hz, 100V supply required to run the EL backlight... So what is it for? I've used some EL LCDs before with the CORE board before. The contrast pot works as normal, but the LED brightness pot is of course usless, as you must use an inverter to supply the EL. (I used the one found elsewhere on eBay, intended for use in fancy after-market auto dashboards, if it helps...)
  8. That's a bit of a massive PITA. :( So what, this MB64 editor actually overwrites a portion of the bootloader? Yuk. :-X
  9. - expect to see a lot of men in tight black pants. - with somewhat interesting haircuts. ::)
  10. This is looking at the DIN board. SO = where your wire goes to the CORE board. SI = where you want this same wire to be attached.
  11. Sorry to jump in, but did anyone else read this: And think of this: Or am I just crazy?
  12. On extreme close-up, it does appear to be an allen grub screw. Of course, I could be wrong.
  13. It can't hurt to mount the whole deal into a shock mount case, but your main weak point will always be the HDD, as it is the only vital component with moving parts *unless you count the fan... SSDs are available on eBay, but it's still early days for the technology, and they haven't really caught up to the mechanical hard drives in terms of bytes per buck. On ebay they are starting at around US$180/32GB and US$300/64GB for "low cost" units. Offtopic: in the same seach results, I found a second-hand 8" floppy drive for US$250! "Jesus!! Why?" I hear you say... because it's from a Solid State Logic automation system. That right folks, an SSL.
  14. OK, i have spotted 1 wiring error. The orange wire on J1 of your DIN board is connected to the wrong point. The point it is connected to is the DOUT thru. Unsolder this point, and re-solder to the direct opposite point (ie, the middle of the other side of the header) [tt]J1: Vs Vs Vd Vd SI SO Sc Sc Rc Rc [/tt] You want to connect to SI, not SO. (Better yet, get a header socket, and plug it straight in) Then you can move on to the interconnection test. BTW, how is the SID board connected to the core? It looks a bit dodgy in the photo...
  15. If you are concerned about vibrations, there are a couple of options (off the top of my head). 1) Replace any HDDs with solid state versions, be they Flash (slow-ish) of SSDs (expensive-very). 2) Mount HDDs with rubber grommets around the mounting bolts. This means drilling out the mounting hole on the chassis slightly to accomodate the grommet, then pass the 3mm mounting bolt through the grommet. you may need to experiment with grommet sizes. This should dampen the type of vibrations you are likely to encounter at a live gig. Of course, If someone kicks your computer while you are recording, a grommet wont help much, but that's up to you to stop them! About a 2-3mm thickness grommet (where by thickness, I mean (outside diameter - inside diameter) / 2) should be enough to dampen the huge LF you'll get at a live gig.
  16. Once again, Cimo proves that he knows what he's talking about. :) Edit: * /tilted/ is afraid of men in tight white pants ::)
  17. See? I don't even read this stuff any more! I just say "yes"! (I think I have a problem)
  18. Jesus. That clip just lowered my IQ. A lot.
  19. Now now. He had earplugs in, and muffs on. I can say from personal experience that synchronising several free running looper pedals with earplugs in is hard enough when you aren't in searing pain.
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSkU5GJmtXc&feature=related Battles. 'lectroRock. Cimo, go see these guys at that festival you're going to. They played Melbourne in Jan 08, even though one of the guitarists had a ruptured ear drum. Toughies. ;D Or how about this wacko?
  21. Even if the show had gone on, there definitely should never have been any "massive inflatable SM58 humping" going on. (Around 4:00 in the above clip, to save you from watching the whole thing)
  22. I'm in for 2. Of course, I have no idea what this thing is, but I want one if they're 18 euros!!
