  1. The group guy is an odd animal. It's a relatively new addition to our repertoire, as far as I know in the last 3-4 years or so... At this point pretty much every group buy is a little different in the way they work. The main rule that applies is: don't take up with a group buy if you can't really afford to. Most group buy organisers get peeved if you start hitting them with "sure, I'm in, but can't afford to pay until 2010..." Generally, any rules are set by the 'group buy organiser'* and will usually be outlined in the post announcing the buy. * we need a better name for this. 'group buy chief'?
  2. (a) miga bump ('n'burn)...
  3. All I'm saying is that music does not need to have a 303 going buddlediddlediddlediddahbuddlediddlediddlediddahbuddlediddlediddlediddahbuddlediddlediddlediddahbuddledid... and a kick drum locked on the "one" (not four on the floor, as the bar seems to only be one bar long...) to be electronic music. (In fact, I'm not convinced music needs that at all.) ;)
  4. Surely once you use a midibox, or for that matter MIDI, or any synth at all, you are making electronic music? We've had this conversation before...
  5. Good point. I was trying to figure what the best way to do this would be. Maybe with colour, bold face, or just asterisks. Something that suggests "this is all you really need, the other stuff is more fun though." The same holds for a lot of the projects. Of hand, the LC info is for a full implementation, including ledrings, MTC display and nav buttons.
  6. Hmm, perhaps something like this: How about the coincidental text on that LCD...
  7. Sweet. I actually think that I might just slam the table into the head of the introduction page. That way, the first thing you see on the introduction page answers forum FAQ No# 1. As you scroll down the page, you get more detailed information about each project. This way, I also don't need to find and update any existing links.
  8. My main drive for doing this is the observation (perhaps skewed, perhaps not) that unless we do this in a very, very, VERY basic form: ie a table; which is prominently positioned on the wiki somewhere you just can't miss it, then we will forever be answering the question: "I want a..., I'm looking for a module list." Re the customisation: this is a vital part of the MBHP, and should not be overlooked. However, 99% of newbies are attracted here with the idea (perhaps mistaken) that they can relatively easily build a box to do X,Y,Z. Once they have been here a little while, have got their first box together in the standard form, THAT's when they get addicted, and realise that all this customisation is possible. We just need to work on getting the total newbie to the addicted phase, without injuring the virginal newbie brain with the scope of possibilties provided by the platform. Got to keep these kit selling folk rushed off their feet! ;D
  9. http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/newbies_project_guide http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/newbie I've started a page to hopefully answer some of the über-n00b questions, like "I want to build a {blank}, but I don't know how many {blanks} I'll need." I'd love someone to have a bit of a look at what I've done, especially the first table. I'm not sure how much of the Bankstick info is completely made up, for example.
  10. Yeah, those links both work. Those links both take you to the top of this thread, where myself and Frailn answered the question you just asked again. A question which has been asked a great many times on this forum, and answered about the same number of times, usually with exactly the same URL. Please try harder. :-\
  11. Yes, it will work. They wouldn't sell many if it didn't work. But it won't work with a midibox. Unngh. >:(
  12. For a start, you'd want to avoid mounting R1, the #MCLR pull-up. As it is only 100R, you'd find you have some power supply issues if you feed the #MCLR pin 12.5 volts...
  13. See here: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,11909.msg96829.html#msg96829 and here: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,11909.msg96831.html#msg96831 Oddly enough, the 2nd and 3rd replies to this thread.
  14. If such a distro could also do the most rudimentary of audio playback/streaming app, then it would quickly become my "workshop" platform of choice. I can't get much work done if I ain'ts rockin' outs.
  15. Alright! So, under much initial duress, I have switched from Eagle to KiCad. -this explains why this thread hasn't budged in a while. The good news is, I've now finished the switchpoint board (again) for the AD75019 device. Coming up: The Input buffers and output buffers/balanced line drivers. I feel so cleansed, to be using open source software again! Ahhhhhh!
  16. Hate to jump in with a boring question, but you aren't sending vast streams of AIN data, due to open AIN pins, are you?
  17. Alas, not only are the switches themselves expesnive, but to actually utilise them would mean an upgrade in PIC. Probably to an AVR or at least a PIC32 series. Very nice though. Unlike this unsavoury Newton-John character.
  18. crystalfontz is a good place to start. They have a quite broad range. - It is possible to get them cheaper. ebay has worked for me a number of times.
  19. He's back! Glad to hear you're ok (At least physically...) I was a bit concerned that you might have been hit by a bus or something. (insert comical hit-by-bus animated smiley) Great to hear from you. ;)
  20. Welcome aboard AdamM. Firstly, if you're controlling tracks on a DAW, you might consider the MidiBox LC application. The app also does Mackie Control Universal, which is supported by pretty much every DAW. (well, all the major ones...) This is a bi-directional interface, and has banks-of-8 capability. Normally you would use a pair of pushbuttons to switch banks, but you could quite easily change this to use an encoder instead.
  21. Mine arrived today! - All the way down here, on the other side of the planet... Thanks Prof! It's alright stryd, you don't want one. - they have staggered keys. :P http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,9995.msg74144.html#msg74144
  22. Or simply slip a small piece of pvc insulation over the LED's lead. The notches look about big enough to fit two leads each... so.. RGB silent switch anyone? ;D Edit (after a second look): yeah, or maybe a second notch... :-[
