  1. oh and here is the SOS article on racks http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan07/articles/livetech_0107.htm
  2. hey ultra as far as racks go maybe you should dedicate an encoder to "layers" which controls an instrument or effect rack to select which "layer is focused" that way your xy for each channel can be the touch screen and it will allow you to control 2 parameters x128 layers (up to) and at the same time give you 128 layers of what the general purpose encoders do...all selectable with one knob of course 128 is serious over kill but if you put an led ring around that one knob and have 16 layers you could actually crossfade between them.. and this is easy to do with just some midi mapping in LIVE... without any additional programming. or you can even use midi a 9th channel with a midi clip and use the midi ctrl in the clip envelope to send cc # and values through midi yoke then back to live to select which layer/rack is chosen... sorry if i dont make sense i'm a little stoned so writing this is difficult... i'll check back when i'm sober.
  3. Ultra keep up the good work. i know that i will be more interested in this in a few months when i've figured out the max/msp side of things to get my live pa up and running.... then all i will need LiveAPI for is the names of clips onto lcd's... i just have attention issues and can only focus on one thing at a time... i will be checking in from time to time to check on your progress...
  4. does the custom app have anything special about it or is it just to trigger the 32 samples????? if its just an app with samples that are synced to bpm you should consider using something like max/msp (or PD) or even reaktor... much easier to program then vb with this kind of software you can send information to and from the MIDIbox to control led's and use the midibox to launch samples in max... pm me if you want to discuss this idea further.
  5. welcome to midibox.org we have been putting together a wiki with all of the information needed to get started... http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=what_is_a_midibox'>http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=what_is_a_midibox thats a link to the introduction. here is a link to the whole wiki, go through part by part. http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/ and here another site made by the original midibox creator Thorsten Klose. http://ucapps.de/ all these links are in the bar at the top of this forum. look for home | wiki | uCapps | ...... also what kind of controller are you thinking of building? look at uCapps.de and look at teh current available projects? or do you have something different on your mind?
  6. haha, i love that finish... how is the durability when you apply it?
  7. is that similar finish to the MOTU Ultralite interface???? (the rough textured one)
  8. tried the new one for a while, great for night reading, with the light on i prefer the old colours... i'm probobly going to go back and forth on this one... maybe a quick "paint it black" link somewhere at the top???
  9. thanks, i'll start working more intensively on my layout, when i figure out how many i need i will update the wiki.
  10. these are really expensive, but for those with a little bit of loot kickin around would make a really nice custom knob.. http://banzaipickups.com/Custom-Inlay-c-947.html Specifications: Diameter (bottom): 20,5mm Diameter (top): 20,5mm Height: 20,5mm Shaft diameter: 6,0mm Shaft type: round shaft Set-screw also, I really really like these knobs and if ANYONE ever finds a place to get these let me know... i'm currently pricing them as replacements directly from m-audio but i'd really want to find their supplier. i'm sure they're expensive directly from them...
  11. no no what i meant was for example we should have a wiki space with links to files like this (taken from uCapps DIN Module page) http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp/alps_stec16b03.lbr "Eagle Library for Alps STEC16B03, provided by Jack" that way when working on boards you have the perfect footprint and model of the Alps encoder.... since in my case i'm designing a mb64e layout. alot of the parts were designed already.... dstamand made this layout in solidedge. he then added this image which shows dimensions of each pot, encoder and internal bit. this would save everyone quite a bit of time modelling the same parts all the time. http://s113401185.onlinehome.us/utopia_live-v1.0.pdf now since i'm working on a case that will have alot of components in it... (g5 xserve, liquid cooling, many knobs, more buttons, sliders, etc.) and i want to fit all the components in a 65mm tall enclosure. (think all in one studio) Inside all of the components will need to just barely dodge each other to make this work. and when i'm done i'd like to share my library of components, so someone could for example re-use them in their designs... since most of us use the same few brands of pots, and knobs etc... eventually we will have a whole library of components specific to midibox... i dunno, let me know if i made any sense there.
  12. what about adding a MB parts library area, to allow users who have made parts in various software to share them with the rest of the community.. to save people time.. for example, i'm working on a layout in solidedge, and it takes me alot of time to make a simple encoder or pot, then to make the knob, then the slider, then the slider knob.. while i know that other users on this forum have already made these same parts. this would make it alot easier for newbs to simply take pre-made bits and layout their Midiboxen. i'm sure other cad users feel this would speed everything up as well...
  13. maybe some of those should be in a Getting Started namespace and you wouldn't need to have them under every module.
  14. DOH!!! fak... too much time on this forum.. not enough REAL WORLD...
  15. hey i'm not sure if i'm doing this right.. all i need to do is copy the info under the new namespace then any links need to link to the next document and so forth is that correct?
  16. I'm jobless and I just ordered my first kit from smash and waiting for it to get here. Until it does I have some time and i want to give back to the community.... Can anyone give me a job to do around here. I've read ucapps and lots of the wiki and I figured the best way to learn more would be to help with some documentation? Keep in mind that I don't have any phyisical experience with the MBHP. But is there any task maybe with the wiki that someone needs help with??? Phil
  17. updated! now with zip ebooks v2 folder v3 contains rest of files not in zip and thanks to "amp1ron" who told me that there were some incorrectly named books... I still have to update the Rar file to contain the proper names... will be done by nov 31st. keep in mind i still haven't read most of them... as i just went on a mission to find ebooks on this topic and squirreled them into a folder.. then shared it with you guys... i'm going to read them on my own time... I will also be adding more books as i find them... i found one on PIC microcontrollers just in the v3 folder and am on a mission for more. and after i read them i will organise the folders by content and make a zip for each folder to make easier downloading...
  18. Just wanted to put up a collection of e-books on electronics that i've found over the past few weeks when looking into whats behind making a midibox... some books are 100% on topic others aren't... i'm uploading more as I find them! feel free to download them as my server is known to act funny... i will upload a complete ZIP with everything as well soon. happy reading, Phil http://www.just-phil.com/midibox/
  19. can i ask what was their minimum order for those?
  20. put my name down for 1 on the next go... edit new total is 2 chips 1 board
  21. also there are quite a few really solid versions of xp floating around on the forums, i run Unattended Windows XP Unlimited Edition. and it came with all the drivers i'd ever need, great utilities, (like right+click image resize) and other goodies. i just use my existing xp cd-key to register it... on my other computer i have a great edition of Tiny XP that only uses 81mb ram on fresh install. and you can choose not to install WMP, Messenger and a few other bits. while installing many needed codecs for watching dvd's, firefox, and winrar. it also disables all unnecessary services. and keeps my computer running really snappy, and its GREAT for music production.... PM me and i can help you find what you are looking for... there are also versions of vista that are meant for 256mb ram. but i'd still suggest xp...
  22. i've spent alot of time sourcing these buttons to no avail! congrats for finding them... now i wish i had the dough to buy them....
