So I seem to be having the same problem as synthesizerbauen had (http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,11710.0.html) I thought I wasn't getting any output but after jacking the mixer all the way up I was able to hear the sounds. Also, all notes hang. It looks like his solution was to replace the 7809. I will pick a couple up after work tomorrow. Everything else seems to be fine. I went back and double checked all the power tests in the baseboard guide. Im posting this with the hopes that someone else might have some ideas about what might be wrong or what else I might check, as I only used the c64 psu and I dont seem to be having any other problems. I thown there must be at least a couple people who would have some ideas. Also, I will say that last night after I uploaded the hex files I plugged in headphones into the sid 1 output. At that point I didnt hear anything at all. On the chat today I was told that I needed to plug the SIDs output into a mixer. I dont know if this could have caused a problem. OK help a brother out :) Lief

How are any of you managing to finish your mb-6582's?!!!
lief138 replied to dubka's topic in MIDIbox SID
I dont think its true that there are no signs from smash. People have already commented around here that their kits have arrived. If your on the list then you are on smash's list. Im sure hes not playing favorites... You can order all the parts seperatly. All the parts you would need are listed in multiple places. As for the PCB you needed to get in on the orignal bulk order or wait. Worst case order everything and use the existing fpd files for TK's full cs. No sense in bitchin it just makes you look like a baby. I should edit this part out but I dont think I will. -
forget about all that I just said. My man Nils set me straight. I just wasnt testing the 9V pins the right way. I was trying each one with the ground pin instead of touching both the 9V pins... Thanks Nils!

OK, so I am at the point of building my mb-6582 that I need to test the power before I plug it in. I looked at the pinout information and see that all three of my psus have pins 2(gnd),4(5V),6(9V),7(9V). I tested the first one and got 5V as expects but I got 0 on pins 6 and 7. I tried the other ones and got the same. I read around and discovered that I needed to change the setting on multimeter to AC for the 9V pins so I tried that on all three of them but still got 0. I know that at least one of these supplies worked fine before I messed with it. I read a couple of other posts around here saying that this means the power supply is bad. Is it possible that i broke then testing the AC pins with the DC setting on my multimeter? Is there any other way I could check. My multimeter is old and cheap, perhaps its retarded? It seems hard to believe that they are all broken in exactly the same way. Any ideas? Thanks, Lief

Well I made th same offer to /tilted/ myself. Either way it looks like he will all set. I would hook Stryd or wilba up if they would like. Lief

Ahh! You guys got my back. Thanks. Special thanks to Goblinz for the link, yeah thats the one. And while Im giving out awards, Ill give my self the 'Tard searcher' award.... I understand that I should follow the testing steps from the indivual components, so I will go forward with this tonight hopefully. Thanks again. Lief

Hi Folks, First let me say, Ive been searching so please take it easy on me. OK so I am most of the way done with the power supply on the MB-6582 baseboard. I remember reading somewhere around here that its possible that the output pins from the brick might not have the correct voltages or something along those lines. I have been looking for this info but havnt found it. Could some one point me in the right direction or simply tell me what exactly needs to be tested so I can be positive before I plug it in. I looked at the the optimized diagram and it looks like I only need to concern myself with the 9V and 5V outputs on the bottom left and right of the plug. Someone should set me straight so I can get past my fear of plugging this thing in. Lief

MB-6582 ate my soldering iron... or ...What Soldering Iron should I get
lief138 replied to lief138's topic in Miscellaneous
Well I got my solder iron in the mail the other day. I will say it weighs half as much as the weller did. Also, the cord to the iron itself is much less flexible. I will definately need to get used to that. I gave it a work out by soldering the sockets and headers on the pcb and it gets plenty hot to the touch. I had to hold the iron far back on it. I think I need some insulator or something. I had it up at around 350c is this too hot? Other than that it worked just fine. No problem staying hot and the tip was alot finer than my old tip which was more like a flat head screw driver. It seems alittle cheap compared to my old one but other than the heat it works great. Thanks everyone. -
MB-6582 ate my soldering iron... or ...What Soldering Iron should I get
lief138 replied to lief138's topic in Miscellaneous
Well I just ordered the Hakko cheapo from the online. Hopefully Ill get a good one. If it works for stryd and arumblack, I should be good. Fossi: That one could also double as a weapon ;) Seppoman: I dont understand what the metal plate you are refering to is. I didnt get that right? I noticed that that place had 40X2 lcds for $10. I dont think thats a great price but maybe good for someone. Ok thanks everyone once again. -
Hey wilba! I also know you didn't want this thread to turn into a design committee, but what about lasers will it have those??? How about a built in toaster? Oh I know, how about a button that will make it play itself. Actually I jest. Please dont become the SEQ nazi and ban me for a year ;)

MB-6582 ate my soldering iron... or ...What Soldering Iron should I get
lief138 replied to lief138's topic in Miscellaneous
Well I guess it could be the heater, but the problem is that the digital temp display was not on. This is the only power indicator on this thing. I double checked the fuse but it looked fine. I tested the fuse to confirm there was connectivity on both sides and there was. Other than that I am at a loss. I have been poking round online and it seems like I could conceivable have a bad or blown transformer. Who knows? Plus the ironic part is, if their was something wrong with the internals I would probably need a soldering iron to fix it :) -
MB-6582 ate my soldering iron... or ...What Soldering Iron should I get
lief138 replied to lief138's topic in Miscellaneous
OK back agian... Twinny: I would love to fix this bad boy but I have no idea what is wrong. I took it apart and looked at the guts. I didnt notice anything visual. I also gave it the highly scientific 'sniff' test which it also passed. Perhaps this will be a project for when my skills get a bit better. arumblack: That looks great. I like 40 bucks alot better than 100+ Ill go for it. Thanks a bunch. I guess I have to wait for the mail now. thanks everyone -

OK Twinny, that looks great! Is it ESD safe? Wilba, that dudes name is Dick :) Stryd do you have any opinion of how the hakko 936 would compare to Weller WES51? They both seem to be right around $90 plus shipping but I could pick up the WES51 locally for 110 tonight on the way home from work. What says you? Anyone else is also welcome to pipe in. http://www.all-spec.com/1/viewitem/wes51/ALLSPEC/prodinfo/w3path=cat&s=GAWA&kw=WES51?gclid=CNOc6-bIxJQCFQNaFQodTSUSFQ -
So there I was happily soldering away when all of a sudden the solder wouldn't melt. So I looked over at the temp display and it was off. I fliped the switch and tried a different outlet and even checked the fuse. Nothing. I then figured I might as well take it apart and see if anything looked wrong. Nothing obvious. SO now I think I might be the first person to have the wilbabeast eat their soldering iron??? So Sad. Who is going to give me the magic link for some inexpensive iron that dont suck. My last one was Weller EC2002M. I got it used and lasted me for a couple years now. I went online and i would perfer not to spend 130 for another one, but I might unless someone has some better ideas. Common folks y'alls can find some cheap stuff out there, help a brother out. Lief
