The LCDs expect an "enabled" signal, so I wonder if it's a problem having only one connected.
Load up something easy such as MB_NG and see if it works.
Reflow the joints on the 595 socket (chip out first). You could have some cold joints; ideally they should not "bulge" around the PTH pad.
What is the scratch between J15A/B headers on the solder side? -
You don't need an SD card to display LCD messages.
Photos of the PCB please.
What LCD are you using?
Is the voltage jumper correct?Does one LCD work by itself?
Is the shift register 74HC595 (not HCT)? Can you swap it for another to test? -
Did you adjust the contrast pot?

As a newcomer, this looks like an awesome update. Any chance the overall height will be slightly smaller that the previous version? The v4 is barely to tall to fit behind a euro panel.
Not for this iteration, the height of everything is about 124mm. But a Eurorack-mounted version would take up ~84HP and consume a lot of your +5V rail. The limiting factor here is the OLEDs. If there were smaller displays, the whole thing could be more compact.

You or somebody else has to have a PIC burner: there's no way to flash the PICs without.
-
If all connections and power rails are good, then it's possible the chip is defective. I think they're quite easy to kill with ESD/excess heat from soldering.
-
Can't see from your photo; did you solder JAOUT_Line Receiver to J2 instead of J1_AOUT_NG?
Did you remove the ICs from the Line Receiver when testing with the "direct" Core connections?
-
And how are the connections made to the Core?
-
Please post a photo, perhaps also showing the soldering.

The AOUT boards have an op amp with no output resistor. Every time you plug into a socket, the tip shorts to 0V. But TL074s are fine with this (they do heat up though!).
Some people will say the the typical output resistor isn't needed anyway and it leads to pitch errors. There are also fancier output schemes with the limiting resistor in the feedback loop.

I have some, please PM for details.

I've never actually ordered anything from Aliexpr., but I know others have.
The build info/parts etc. have been on the wiki for a while now:

Looks like it's about the same to purchase through eBay (recommended over Ali).

Please embed the pictures here so when the offsite doku goes bad they'll last at least as long as the forum does.
You have the headers in backwards. They should go on the underside of the board. This will also allow you to put the panel on properly.
Try to get the main CS working before connecting any other modules (DOUT, AOUT etc.).

Hehe Peter, don't spread rumours! :P

What's the total resistance between the +5V on the Disco board and the far end of the out USB? All of the connectors will add up.
-
All good, let's see what it can do!
-
Perhaps a USB "Y" cable?
-
I think the CV staying at the last level is the expected behaviour. Also "off" would mean about -5V in a bipolar mode...
If using a modular, then just pull out the patch cable :). Or solder a switch inline with the cable to shut it off when it's not required. Most modules I know will attenuate (full anticlockwise is 0) or attenuvert (middle is zero), so these are options too.

Nice start!
I have questions but they can wait until you've progressed a bit.
Best,

Don't worry, it should happen again someday...

This one is also quite cool. The bit at the start is funny as Matthias (also drums) is describing his friend Simon playing a joke on him. Somehow John (bass) and I set up the chord progression and off we go. The end is a bit rambly but it's a jam after all!
-
Thanks! The sound at the start is the Rhodes Chroma as are the later pads. I can't remember if it was going through any effects, but it's probably the raw synth. The bass is Moog Voyager.
I have another one that sounds a bit like a didge, but it's just a Sherman Filterbank 2.
It's pretty rough though, so I'll save your ears :).
