  1. BTW, the panasonics are slightly worse, I think, but since mios 1.4 it acts a lot better. I agree that sometimes the fader dosen't move, for a small distance, probably due to jitter, resulting in an incorrect virtual position, but since TK's awesome feature that can be enabled, that won't send data, until touch sensor is activated, this has not been a problem for me!
  2. Yes. Dunno about the button thing. But you could have a N.O. single pole double throw pushbutton switch next to the jog wheel, that disconnects the appropriate two connections of the encoder, mounted near the encoder, so it only sends impulses when the button is pressed. The Fairlight MFX3+ DAW system is operationally like this. (though not electronically)
  3. non-incremental, not sure what that means, but I have modified alps detented encoders, by removing the detent spring, this is a very easy mod.
  4. I had to swap the 100ohm resistor for 75ohm, for the regulator to get 8v (not enough range in the trimpot)
  5. I don't worry about fader not moving for a value of 1 out of 128 resolution...
  6. I don't think those piezo's can send aftertouch, as they need a percussive hit, to generate a voltage spike. Unless the aftertouch was 'fake' i.e. added by the microcontroller after each hit.
  7. Hardware (BTW, I liked the money for nothing and MTV posts!)
  8. In Australia, NZ, they are available from Jaycar, you just buy a piezo transducer (buzzer) and pull it out of the plastic casing (acoustic resonator, like a guitar) and then it works ok as a trigger. around $3 aus each
  9. 1) Have you checked that traktor supports motorfaders? I'm not sure where you can get short alps motorfaders, that would be similar to the length of a crossfader, though you might get one as a spare part for a Yamaha 01V or 01X or something. I think the motor mechanism might be a hindrance to quck crossfading action, it would put too much friction/weight to do 'the crab' and stuff like that. 2) I don't know, I've used both, in commercial digital mixers, but one of these was a Yamaha 02R, which has crappy motorfader algorithms, so I can't tell. P+G is just perfect! though I don't know where to get them. (possibly available as a spare for the digidesign 002 or similar source , but probably expensive) 3) yes 4) soft takeover works so that when you change screensets in your software, or patches on external hardware, a midi message will only get sent when the knob goes past the current value. In my experience, this is only worth using if it is implemented in the software itself, otherwise you have 2 sets of data to load and save each time. The Novation Nova Synthesiser has soft takeover built in, I think that all hardware and software should!

  11. Where do you live? maybe someone who uses a JDM could try your one, and see if it works on their system? maybe someone could start selling pre-made JDM's that have been checked, before shipping. I would make them, check them, and swap them for parts for parts if anyone is interested. ...Steve

  13. have a great Christmas, everyone, and put aside your midiboxes, and spend some time with your families, and friends! Do something nice for someone this Christmas! ...Steve

  15. Good that you got it to work, wierd that other firmwares don't! but at least we can all learn from the experiences of those that post this kind of stuff, so thanks! :)
  16. oops, I mean "German winter".

  18. panasonic encoders can often be found on ebay for very cheap. also check out www.shuricht.de for reasonably priced alps, very high quality.
  19. re-check all your settings in IC-Prog. I have seen this error message, and I rechecked all my settings to match the settings reccommended on Thorsten's website, and it worked after that. Even if it still dosen't work, one of us can program it for you! Are you loading the correct firmware for your chosen pic? As there are different versions for pic16f874 and pic16f877
  20. Parramatta River (my skateboard fell in that river, near my house once, and it took 15 minutes of poking in the murky water with a stick and wire, to get it back! They sink fast!) :)
  21. Hey Cem, thanks for the reply! :) Sounds different to mine (I think it is 7-8 mm thick, including PCB), but I'll have to pull my MB apart to have a look! (not this week though!) ...Steve
  22. Hey Poleq, I will be re-building my MB LC (nicer front panel, and more channel strips, and some other config changes) over the next few months, so I will be making a tutorial as I go, so expect some material from me, but I am slow too! (but other slow builders are welcome to come for the ride too! ;)) ... Steve
