  1. other brands of MF's that I know of are 'outboard electronics' (though not technically a mf, as it uses a solenoid-like coil to move the fader instead of a motor) and dambrin. (I think it is spelt dambrin, but not sure.) one thing to watch out for is noise from motors getting into your audio tracks. ...Steve
  2. ;D for those that haven't realised, I go by the name of loonatron on that forum. (Well spotted Dan!) Will post more on that forum when I get more results. BTW, those earlier comments on SL1200 and SL1210 may not apply, as I found that a modified belt drive turntable (runs at 16rpm now) seems to work better at this stage. I just gotta find an old photocopier or something, to get leadscrews and half nuts and linear bearings and stuff like that from ;) (still trying to conceptualise my MB LC MK2 at the same time... doh!)
  3. Logic express looks like a bargain. Real dissapointing that there is no PC support in the future though...
  4. Axel, have you entered your [glow=red,2,300]Midibox[/glow] logo into the competition? ;) Are those vertical ledrings next to the knobs? Narrower spaces between the faders this time... those look like 25x2 character displays! Nice work! Modular design looks easy to work on.
  5. At least it is somewhere to send anyone who wants to integrate midi into some kind of commercial product... MIOS being non-commercial, not for profit, etc.
  6. I've never used it with anything else. I don't think that is right. I too have wondered what it takes to get the MBLC to work well with other apps, but it seems too complicated, to figure out how. (for me anyway) This has been discussed several times on this forum before, do a forum search. I think the new mackie control is different to the old one. I'm not sure if it uses a different protocol, or if the device id is different or what ??? Again, I think this has been discussed before, but I'm not sure. To use the original equipment Mackie control with logic you need to buy an upgrade firmware from Mackie. The same goes for converting a Logic control into a Mackie control, I've no idea how this was implemented, though I think I asked a question about this on this forum several months ago. If you find that thread, you may find an answer there.
  7. I agree with you psytron, Wilba, and meeshka. meeshka, yes their site isn't complete. (They told me in an email that 40x2 LCD with backlight is available, even though it is not listed on the site... wierd!) But don't let me stop you from doing your special group orders if that is what you really want to do! ;)
  8. I can't remember where I saw those! But I ended up buying my 4 new LCD's from PMB in NZ. Futurlec also sell them for about Aus$25 ea, but you need to send them an email, as the part number for the backlit version isn't on the website. Unfortunately PMB don't have any of the cheap ones left, only the ones for NZ$48. (last time I spoke to PMB they had one left) I decided not to use those cheap LCD's from the BG micro, as I didn't want to make a -5v rail (trying to keep the MB simple). But you can probably easily use an old power supply from something else, that has -V output, e.g. Amiga 500 PSU. (If I'd thought of that earlier, I could've bought those cheap LCD's!)
  9. long term solution do you think we can find one, so that we don't have so many threads like what this one is turning into? (not complaining, just making a point.)

  11. I think the mod was just a function implemented into the firmware that sent a touch message to the host application if the fader was moved more than a certain amount, or held against the direction of the moving motor. I believe that this was only in the old MF module, not sure if it continued in MIOS. I think TK's other idea of a thumbtack next to the fader is much better. (my rebuilt LC will have this, where the heel of your hand rests on the panel as you move the faders.)
  12. meeshka, Don't do it. This is a complete and utter rip-off. Farnell are wierd. There are some good things about them, but most of their prices are ridiculous. (but the one in Sydney sometimes has ridiculously cheap bargins in the sale bin at the trade counter. I recently got an analogue multimeter, and a digital multimeter for $5.au each. Cheaper than buying new leads, and battery for the old one! I also got a Weller 12V iron for Aussie $20. Normally about $70!) Wilba, I don't need any encoders, BTW, I got some recently from Nat, and also from Ian (thanks guys). The reason I started this thread was just because I thought it was a good idea for other people, and as a long term solution. ...Steve
  13. I dunno, but I know another ben that is a loser too!
  14. As there seems to be quite a few of us in Australia who want encoders (Also good idea for other countries?), why don't we petition one of the retailers to stock a cheap, but good encoder suitable for MIOS? This may also work for other parts we need! maybe Futurlec, as they are international, and this would be helpful for people all around the world! or Jaycar, just for Australia/New Zealand.
  15. I got a jog wheel, plus encoder out of an old sony VCR. I haven't tried it with a midibox yet.
  16. I wonder where they got the idea from? ;) Good for people who know what they want but don't want to play with electronics! Not as flexible as MIOS though! ;D http://www.doepfer.de/pe.htm
  17. so, TK, its a problem when the power is drained from the motorfaders? Or RF interference? (I'm not sure what EMC means. But will have a look on google in a second! ;)) Stephen, Your description reads ok in English! Just change 'radio troubles' to 'RF interference' (means radio frequency interference) Maybe you should have one 100n cap across each motor on the motorfaders. Are you using a separate transformer on the MF module and the core modules? if so, then I don't understand why excessive current draw by the motors could cause a voltage drop on the core module. (I hope I'm helping, and not confusing...)
  18. I was poking around on google, to try to find info on the Motorola 56303 dsp chip, as this is what my Novation Nova uses, and the Nova suffers some well known headroom problems, as well as some other annoying problems. I came across this interview http://interview.sonikmatter.com/data/steve_duda.php via this forum post http://aulos.calarts.edu/pipermail/music-dsp/2002-September/017596.html where Steve Duda claims that someone flashed Virus code into a microwave II, turning it into a virus! I thought this was interesting, even if it sounds a bit far fetched! But with people like Thorsten around, anything is possible! ...Steve
  19. Interesting that you thought of this, TK! Some interesting ideas here... Though I do like to see what is happening around the globe, on the midibox front! (though it won't be hard to keep an eye on that, as well as looking on your local forum) I posted an idea maybe a year ago... that is swapping parts with one another, to get the parts that are difficult to get in your country, but no-one seemed interested. But now there are more of us, so maybe these ideas you guys are putting forward may come to fruition. ...Steve
  20. Hey Psy, where did you get 'em from? Just wondering... It's funny that there are so many of us aussies here now! Is there some sort of Australian midibox club that no-one has told me about? ...Steve
  21. Hey Steve, My LC sometimes does not print one or two of the channels' info on the LCD, but it usually re-appears within 5 seconds or so. Is this similar to your problem, or is your problem worse than this? Which MIOS revision are you using? I don't think it could be due to the 'touch' or the condensor/capacitor. Occasionally, I have had to re-load the bootstrap loader, upload mios, etc due to a bad load or something... then it works OK, but this has only happened a few times out of hundreds of uploads! Could also be that the sysex from Cubase is getting jumbled up somehow. Are you able to try it with someone's system who is running Logic, just to see if it is a Cubase problem? good luck, from Steve
  22. the audio interface has amazing specs for the price. Even Dolby digital in/out! (I wonder if you could catch the bitstream somehow, and make an .ac3 file out of it?) http://www.behringer.com/02_products/prodindex.cfm?id=BCA2000&lang=ENG http://sound-on-sound2.infopop.net/2/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=215094572&f=594090574&m=7673092677&r=7673092677#7673092677 also a job ad for those that thought behringer didn't have an R&D department...
