  1. another thing... how can I stop the faders from buzzing at the end of their travel... The panasonic faders do not seem to have a neutral zone (land at each end of resistive strip that is 0v or 5v) like other faders,, a resistive strip all the way.... the faders motors are still buzzing away when they hit the bottom of the fader's travel what are the hole centres for mounting alps faders?? and what about that fast fader stopping near the correct position, but not quite?? where did I read that?? sorry for replying to myself again, but I'm obsessed with this thing, and I've been working on it for 2 days straight!! :o
  2. OK the encoders are like the modern digital eqivalent of analogue pots, like you talked about with pay_c. They are much more handy when switching banks. The only drawback is that they have a different feel... they go round and round to increase a value, or decrease a value, but this feel is also dependant on the'pulses per rev' (ppr) I prefer 24ppr for my LC emulation, no detent (detented types click as they go around) You don't have the definate position like a 'real' pot. But I would prefer encoders anyday. BTW they have switches inside that send pulses. You also have no problem of pot jitter (see faq) The problem of no definate position for lower level and highest level position can be solved through use of 'ledrings' like on protools procontrol, digi002, Logic control, fairlight prodigy etc. and led ring lights up to show position of the virtual knob within the software...very cool (but lots of holes to drill, and lots of soldering, but worht it I think) motorfaders.... move by themselves to update to where the software's faders are when switching banks.... very cool, the coolest thing in a recording studio!! ;D ok, I am using panasonic motorfaders (mf for short) but alps are much better, I believe, but I simply cannot afford them!! don't waste too much time searching for used components, but then again... its a good feeling when something gets used instead of thrown out!! (find a balance) ok, have fun, and good luck, ask questions, they are welcome!! bye, from Steve
  3. OK Thorsten, are you sure you don't have a secret pcb assembly plant in your house somewhere?? This stuff is amazing!! I really don't know how you do it all so fast!! I'm having fun playing around with my LC BTW, but it will be a number of months before I have time to build SIDs like these monstrosities ;D have fun with your Synths.... you know Aphex Twin used to build his own synths too, maybe you will get picked up by a record company some day!! ;) bye, from Steve
  4. So, why don't you erase the PIC, and upload the newest version of the bootstrap loader like Mark did?? sorry if I've missed something, from Steve
  5. Okay, Â I isolated the faders from the panel, using masking tape, nylon washers and bolts.... and guess what... It works much much better now! Â :D This is a bit wierd, as the cases of the motorfaders are insulated from the actual electrical parts of the motorfaders, but then electronics is wierd sometimes.... Â It also works better after removing the delay! ;D I also realised it is better to have a smaller deadband on the motor than on the analogue inputs. :D Â Thanks go to my buddy Kieth, who told me to get away from earth loops and keep away from joining dissimilar metals as much as possible. Now this guy really is an electronics freak... get this.... he even has a TV station in his house!!! with a multicamera studio (in the kitchen) a control room (not sure what room it used to be) and a transmitter in the garage! http://welcome.to/TelevisionGladesville/ http://www.zeta.org.au/~richardm/RadioClubs/gladesville/Photos.html occasionally the faders will stop at the wrong spot, so any more suggestions would be very welcome!! (obviously!!) bye, from Steve
  6. I'm not sure what the above post was about... I must have accidentally posted it in wrong thread now... which button do I press to get to the other screen pages on character LCD?? I can't see it in the .asm tables ...Steve
  7. I just found a solution, I think.... I rounded up some of my midi gear... merger, through box, synth, and made a chain, to create a delay. I put this in line with the output of the LC, to delay Logic recieving the slider positions, as unwanted transmissions happen before the mfader gets a chance to move to it's correct positions, stalling the fader. The LC behaved a lot better. (was unuseable before) Now, I want to know if there is a way of putting a short midi delay in the code somewhere, or does someone know where the stray midi data is coming from?? As I mentioned earlier, the errors increase when I bolt the faders to the front panel, and reduce when I remove them. I have shortened the earth strap as much as I can, which helped (the panel is earthed) thanks, from Steve
  8. Hey Dr Bunsen, I hope you are still around, haven't seen you 4 ages.... reguarding the controller keyboard we talked about... I couldn't find out who it was (can't remember, it was someone 'friend...oops' from Tafe) But.... I think the retail price is $399, most music stores offer good discounts for cash, I have found Turramurra music, and Bava's music city at liverpool to be very good. Oh yeah, I think it was the evolution series, as this is what we just got in our classroom... I saw the boxes, and they had $399 printed on a label, they came from Turramurra. Sorry, I don't remember where you are from, but Bava's do mail order if you ring first. Try to talk to Nick, he is more helpful good luck, from Steve oh yeah, look at Ians post on encoder deal
  9. Hey pay_c, Â thanks for the reply, it helped!! (sometimes it is a simple overlook) I shortened the ground strap, now its better, but the faders still often get left behind. I think I'll still need to reduce the resolution of the PIC's ain a bit. Â bye, from Steve oh yeah... I remember something about an option to change the way the motorfaders hunt for the positions... quick/accurate... will I find this in the code for LC somewhere? or is this unneccessary? oh yeah.. a hint for those starting out with LC... download the manual first, and don't play round with features you don't know how to use for this program (had to reinstall logic, after I stuffed up all my settings!! now the flip mode works, you have to manually select this in LC preferences) thanks all!! bye, from Steve :)
  10. I've been playing with the calibration app, sometimes a few of the faders get left behind. Maybe I need to increase the voltage above the manufacturer's recommendations??
  11. OK, There was a short between a fader connection and the panel.... a real dead short across the 5v regulator! but now for the next problem.... since I put the thing in a case, jitter has gone crazy.... the motorfaders are very erratic now, they don't even make it to their positions when they are under power, before they stall due to false jitter, I think Can someone tell me if I'm on the right track?? I'm about to try the mf calibration tool. It's wierd, all was fine before I put it into a case. Maybe the aluminum panel is reflecting the RF from the PIC back into the analogue inputs?? any replies appreciated ;) from Steve
  12. I think the stupid LCD needs insulated mounting on metal panel..... drives me crazy
  13. Hey, 5 seconds after I turn LC on, LCD goes blank, 7805 gets very hot. I disconnected motors, and dout modules just before, as they started acting wierd. some of the buttons stopped working yesturday. Maybe I've got a short somewhere, I'll take another look. when I disconnect all but the pots, it works goin to bed now, I'll have a look 2morrow bye
  14. Hey, I'm sorry I took so long to reply..... - capacitor .82up can replace 0.1uf temporarily if you mean .82uF? - capacitor 22UF 16V No - capacitor 470UF 16V use to replace 2200uf, but better to get correct part - capacitor 100 UF 25V No - capacitor 10UF 16V correct! you still need 100n, 2200uF, 33nF (x2) 330nF, basically, you need to go and buy all the incorrect parts! (just a few dollars/euros) from a local electronics parts store. good luck from Steve

  16. see link "mackie hui" you can theoretically control 'Tools with LC on a Mac 8)

  18. control protools (mac only) http://www.emagic.de/support/download/treiber.php?lang=EN you need a mac and registered logic (possibly this only works with platinum) you also need oms, which I think is a free download! good luck, from Steve
  19. Trying to increase your post count again Ian? me too! ;) he he!

  21. Taken from q+a on emagic site: 15. Will Logic Control also support ProTools software or Cubase? Pro Tools Mac and any other software which support OMS and the Mackie HUI is now supported by the new Logic Control HUI Emulator. http://www.emagic.de/products/hw/control/faq.php?lang=EN I wonder what this emulator is.... well I'm sure we could emualate hui, ( I think Thorsten has commented on this before... that he dosen't have time/motivation to do this himself) but I think I wanna take a break 4 a while, I just crossed over to logic from protools anyway. (well I still use a digi002 at school) btw, Thorsten sorry to put an off topic thread on the latest news, seems I have started a trend :P bye, from Steve

  23. You legend Ian!! ;D thanks heaps!! count me in for 16 if that's cool 8) see you, from Steve :) thanks for taking the effort!
  24. Thanks Thorsten! BTW, I just downloaded some of your songs, I'll have a listen to them soon! (have to turn on my mac! I downloaded onto a zip disk at college....I don't have a zip on my pc....)
