SID output to balanced input (of M-Audio Delta 1010LT)?
kris replied to Wilba's topic in MIDIbox SID
hi wilba although i cant speak about the output from a sid ive used an m-audio delta 1010 lt for roughly two years in my midi-box and have been really happy with the results that i get mainly recording accoustic instruments using shure sm58's i set all the inputs to line level then i use a small 8 channel pre-amp between the mic's and card some of the results ive got are really quite impressive for saying the cost of the equipment using this set up theres no difference between the first 2 channels balanced and the next 6 inputs regards kris -

hey moogah i originally asked for one of the slider assemblies but i dont think that i can use it because of the power requirements i dont want you to be out of pocket though as i did ask you for one but it seems like you might be able to sell it to some one else if not let me know and ill take it thanks very much regards kris
-
thanks for that wilba so id be interested in one of the boards thanks regards kris

hello wilba im would like a board probably not the cs board though but ive kinda got a funny power supply question first do i have to have an ac current to run a sid (im thinking about a 4sid/fm unit and maybe 8 analogue filters in one box ) i got a funny power situation as i need everything i make to run from a dc power source batteries charged from solar as i like to live off the grid quite a lot ive read some stuff that makes me think that to power a sid i need ac and dc currents while i could get the ac from inversion (this is not a good situation as it produces noise in audio situations not a pure sine wave but stepped ) anyway this situation is making me question if its any use me making a sid synth any clarification would be gratefully appreciated regards kris

hello i find all this about hardrives interesting as i run a sata1 hardrive in my midi-box at the moment i have found no problem with the performance it will record eight tracks of audio simultaneously with no problem but i was thinking of replacing it with two sata laptop drives running as a raid because a) less noise (the noisiest thing in my box is hard drive ) b) less weight c) less power consumption (with solar power this is always an issue) but you've made me think about it i would appreciate any comments from people who actually use 2.5 drives for audio maybe in a laptop ps thats 8 tracks of audio in cubase sx +reason rewired with as many tracks of midi as required i dont see the performance problem issue regards kris

Buttons - Do I have to mount on to a PCB to get good ones?
kris replied to The III Man's topic in Parts Questions
stryd ive now used these buttons on two midi-boxes and am about to use them on a third so the guy hasnt tricked me into anything as for being splash proof and grit proof the two midi boxes ive already used them on have been in the himilaya and on the back off the beach for most of there life and not one button has ever stopped working or even has the action got sticky or alterd in any way so i was offering advice from experience not the virtual world of web pages and data sheets ps i phone the guy and he sends them to me and i pay him on receipt very rare in the modern computer orientated world but a service i enjoy regards kris -
Buttons - Do I have to mount on to a PCB to get good ones?
kris replied to The III Man's topic in Parts Questions
while its true youve got more choice with pcb mount buttons there are some good panel mount i use one by a company called apem its the 1415NC sorry i havent got a link as i phone the guy it plays well is splash proof and grit proof but sometimes it would be good if it was smaller and i might have to start using pcb mount ones for variety but it could sort you out for your first box regards kris
