  3. yea prof that really helps as im helping a friend get a dmx rig together at the moment i can see its going to lead to a midi-box control surface as well (eventually) i all ways prefer learning from someones personal experience of equipment software etc thanks for the input kris
  4. thanks very much MRE thats exactcly the imformation i was looking for the layout im making is for using cubase with reason rewired so i can add a few drum beats basslines etc with live musicians this time its going to be mios which is new for me id like to use encoders as ive never used them before but wonderd if they would be worth the extra exspense it looks like a mixer layout the rotarys are used to alter filters, pitch etc in reason and control vsts and effects in cubase why i thought about encoders is if i got the ones that push in and out as well then each rotary could control two effects etc ie pushed in turn one effect pulled out turn the second effect so doubling the amount of parmeters i could control from the same panel space (please correct me if im wrong) i think i might just have to go for encoders for the experimentation thanks a lot for the input kris
  5. yea thanks its good to get the input of someone whos using them kris
  6. thanks for the reply i wasnt thinking of using led rings so i dont know if there would be any advantage for me well let me put it like this to use rotary encoders ive got to order some plus dinx4 board (ive already got pots) but not having used encoders before its difficult i might find ways of using them which would be very handy ??? ??? ??? kris
  7. forgive me for asking a dumb question maybe im buliding a mb64e with the layout in the pic below as you can see ive got 16 rows of 2 pots im thinking of replacing these with rotary encoders maybe even encoders with push-buttons my question as ive never used rotary encoders before is what would the advantages be over analogue pots thanks kris P1010044.JPG
  8. the pics will be great i use these buttons apem components 1415NC there not the most stylish i suppose but they are suface mount water proof and dust proof ive used them on both my boxes for a few years in lots of dusty places and never had one fail the action is good to play live with very positive so i suppose ill stick to them wish they had them a little smaller though good luck with the buttons kris P1010038.JPG
  9. thanks for the info it was the cem 3372 and 3044 in the oberheims ill keep my eye out you never know but for now the moogs are very interesting its really good that there are a few people on this plot kris

i think ill just stick to version 2 as i say i dont feel the loss and the midi implementation is alot easier i only use reason to play some loops and a few drums anyway thanks kris ps stryd wheres your girlfriend from n.w. somewhere its just i was under the impression that yirdaki is a term from n.w. (please educate me) the pre-celtic peoples from uk+ireland had an instrument the same cast from bronze they have the remains of one in dublin mueseum (supposedly called an oric)

hey thomas i hope you mean a kiln so its hot enough to make ceramics the technique ive used is to roll the clay out flat long and thin then join the two sides by using a cross hatch and slurry mix to stick them together i had quite alot of sucess with this method making quite good cones but you need a long kiln you can extrude the clay to make your cylinder then even wrap this round to make more portable and fit in a smaller kiln ive got a friend who makes them like this there good instruments and easy to carry ps dont forget to carve a design into your clay didj good luck kris

yea using it with alittle looping pedal can be effective as for the breathing keep playing its almost about not concentrating just relaxing but you have to develop the ability to blow air out using the cheek muscles (not the lungs) this takes time to develop strength in cheeks anyway someone like your self will get there maybe we should build a midi-didj kris

hey sasha unfortunately ive never looked on the web for circular breathing but its about relaxing so if you concentrate on the sound that you are making then making this sound longer and longer (practice this for some time as you have to develop cheek muscles) eventually the sound gets longer the breaths get shorter (it just happens, a little bit like falling in) as i say it took me about a year playing everyday but ive seen people learn it in 15-30 mins (usually children) its not difficult and if you can juggle you can circular breath kris ps this is the best i could find quickly www.didgemusic.com/instruct/circ.html

    reason3

yea it took me about a year of practice to get circular breathing but now ive seen three different techniques of circular breathing so ive kinda realised that its like a lateral thought on this thing breathing something we all do without thinking and take it for granted that its in out in out etc where really its open to interpratation its where we get all of our energy from so its important!! check out the meaning of the word inspiration kris
  21. yea it all ways seems to be down to ergonomics the arrangement of objects in space i found making it first in cardboard really helpful kris

i dont mind didj hi jacking the thread i like the box didj very nice i used to make them out of clay wow the low frequencies and they ring like bells when you hit the right harmonic but unfortunately fragile so they dont last for long oh well as for communication music is definately a universal form that transcends both written and spoken language kris
  23. i agree it looks cool and maybe the knobs are a bit close together/big but hey what the heck i was going to use atool case just like this one until i decided to completely build the case from scratch i dont know about poor mans laptop i think creative genius's portable computer sounds about right anyway good luck with getting it running kris
  24. it sucks where's the punctuation i didnt hear any full stops no its cool some good sounds but needs compression kris
