Project: little surface, maximum control... (updated 20 march 2007)
Sasha replied to Ixox's topic in MIDIbox SID
Ixox, that is great mod! I always wondered why there is no single SID CS. I`ve got bunch of SID chips (and none MB SIDs built yet), but still I wish to use only one chip and full CS. This kind of MB SID could be compact wich is great! I am surely going to build your version of MB SID whan I finish SEQ. Thanks for the mod. -
Congratulations on new SEQ. Glad to hear it works fine. I am very interested in your case. It looks like shortened new C64 case. Is it? If it is the case, what have you done with the hole at the back? Nice 101! ;)

MIDIbox of the Week (Live Controller made by Rigo) backlit button UPDATE
Sasha replied to Rigo's topic in MIDIbox of the Week
It`s nice to see someone using DIY illuminated buttons technique I`ve described. I found it really good and cheap if you are using proper material. using clear acrylic is not good idea as you see, but there are also smoked and ice-like difused acrylic I found perfect. I also like how polipropilene rods looks like. Where did you get these from? Do you have any more images of work in progress? For kill buttons on my Traktor controller I used clear red acrylic sticks (caps), and better diffusion i get by increasing lenght of caps (mine are around 30mm). Overall lenght at the end are not small, but diffusion are great. On pic under it looks kinda unreal, but this is because of camera. -
MIDIbox of the Week (The MidiSphere by mandingo)
Sasha replied to mandingo's topic in MIDIbox of the Week
Man, you have really artistic aproach. It is very easthetical. Silkscreen - I don`t know if anybody here silkscreaned panels. Walnut sides are also top! Lot of MB builders compromise look with price of components, and I am glad you didn`t. You controler is definitly one of the preatiest I`v ever seen including comerciall ones. Only thing I dont like is pink display but you explain it is actually red, so it is OK ;) I have question for you... I see no joints on the ball ??? Please explain. -
Thorsten, its hard to find proper words for your work and dedication. You cannot suprise me with capabilities of any new MB project, but I`m always amazed and thrilled with it. I`ve got that session 4 video on my flash drive so I can take it with me where ever I go and play it to the friends. I played it so meny times hipnotised looking at those blinking lights. That track is just great, definitly my style. ;D Different from what I`ve heard before and much better. Sounds like Aphex Twin ambient works. Really nice. Congratulations. Today I received 40x2 LCDs for MB SEQ I am going to built. :) I wanted to make old stile SEQ but when I saw those 4 track of dual LED buttons I decided to wait till it comes to light because it is so amazing and looks more usefull and clear what and when is going on. I`ve never have chance to work with musical hardver so for me it wil be really great experience building and playing with this sequencer. Countless Thank You, and keep on making good music. ;)

I`m amazed. Great looking box. It`s always nice to see reused computer cases for midibox projects. I also like metal knobs. Congretulations!

This is really nice box. I see you spend some time looking for perfect maching knobs. Great selection. I`m also glad you prefer red LEDs over the popular blue ones. Red gear always looks kinda devilish to me. As pay_c already said negative red/black display would be kickass. I saw it somewhere but I think they are much expensive than regular LCDs. I want to use one from the first time I saw it. Really bautifull. Anyway, great looking box, one of my favorites. You waited a long time for it, but I far as I can see it`s worth it. ;)

We can surely get the price down, but not low as it should be. When I was searching for silicone sheets to make my own laser cut buttons i read somewhere that these kind of buttons developed about 30 yesrs ago as a cheep substitution for regular buttons. I see this as very expensive substiutution for much better buttons. If we get the price half than it is now it would still be to high. I can make better looking buttons on my own using acrylic but that silicone soft touch feeling is bit hard to get. I intented to use silicone rubber glued on top of the acrylic button caps and that is it. I only need to know could it be laser cut. If it can... that is supercheep, great looking and touching substitution to any button. Only downfall is thickness of only 0.5mm. I found some companies in chine making thicker sheets but thay are not selling small quanityes. Price: $9.95 so for the 8x8 grig you will need 160 bux! It is way to much just for pads. Rarely I see so overpriced product. Bastards >:( http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=7836#

Thanks. Maybe I order this display now.
-
What exactly does it means? Do you have to make some modifications to suit MB?

I already swaped all ENC_ENTRY with MT_EOT except last two I am using for only 2 encoders. It works OK. I tought all entries with MT_EOT by default acts as butons. Is this how my configuration should look like If I want to use only 2 encoders on the last SR#8 ? #define DEFAULT_DIN_SR_PIN_01_08 2 #define DEFAULT_DIN_SR_PIN_09_16 3 #define DEFAULT_DIN_SR_PIN_17_24 1 #define DEFAULT_DIN_SR_PIN_25_32 4 #define DEFAULT_DIN_SR_PIN_33_40 5 #define DEFAULT_DIN_SR_PIN_41_48 6 #define DEFAULT_DIN_SR_PIN_49_56 7 #define DEFAULT_DIN_SR_PIN_57_60 8 (should I change it like this?) pins 61-64 of last SR#8 are asigned to 2 encoders

My sticks LED doesn`t flash but you can buy flashing LED for your stick if you want to. Besides, I dont see the point of flashing stick. Flashing should be used to signalise something is going on in the moment but not something is povered on. Am I right?
-
I think this is not good idea since you already have flashing LEDs. I dont belive you want to alterate flashing speed.
-
Still here with same problem... What should I do to use inputs of second DINx4 for pushbuttons and last 4 pins of last SR for encoders. I have working only those 4 inputs configured for 2 encoders, other inputs dont work.
-
I stopped using LTC while debugging MB64E to minimalise bugs and errors. Now I have few test pots connected, 2 encoders and 32 buttons working but not other 28 buttons at second DIN module. Last SR#8 I am using configured for 2 encoders, and they are working but not other inputs on same DIN module. However I`ll check your setup_midibox64.asm and see will it be better.
-
I finaly give up using LTC with MB64E. Have no Idea what was wrong. I will leave it aside for some MB64 projects and continue troubleshooting MB64E aplication using standard MIDI connections. Thanks you all for help.

For me DIY on first place doesn`t means cheap, it means custom. I am sure lot of us here would like to have optical faders at least one for crossfader. It`s not like I am earning big money and want to use all high quality parts. My sellary is only 250 EUR per month and I am always suprised when somebody from normal countries reather buying cheep and ugly few cents buttons than good ones priced few bux. We are building it for ourselfs! Lets build it better and CHEAPER than comercial product. But, that is my opinnion. I`m sure I`m not the only one.

Here is the news from the Ian from Infinium And here is the provided PDFs schematic http://www.bgprodavnica.com/temp/DX400211.pdf and drawing http://www.bgprodavnica.com/temp/45mm%20linear%20control%20outline%20drawing%5b1%5d.pdf About price I get reply from Rene... prices: http://www.bgprodavnica.com/temp/Infinium%20UK-EUR%20pricelist%20060627.pdf

sure, I mailed them for datasheet and asked about details on bulk order.
-
Because I know how pot and encoders are working, and how to connect it. SPI/Serial...??? What the hack is that and how to implement it in the mbox? I read their info but dont understend much. And as you probably know I cannot do eny code customisation. If it is simple connecting a wires or changing few noumbers in code I am in, if I have to right my own support... I give up. That would be great. I guess asembling wouldn`t be the problem, even there are some SMD chips.
-
Sure I can learn, but takes so much time. I never had any experience with programming of any kind, no scripting no VB no asembler... I heard about PIC first time on ucapps. For me, programming is compleetly new world, so I have to give up everything else and sart learning. I love hardware stuff so much I could give up and start with programming.
-
I mean 65-128 I want to use 22 pots, but lets make it simpler... Can I have tested/working MB64E aplication with anabled 64 pots, 64 encoders, 64 buttons and no special function buttons - just maximum number of inputs? Yes it is simple, but I just cannot make my MB64 based hardware to work with MB64E aplication so I need to test it with sombodys working configuration.
-
Ok, they are not cheep but 30 bux for fader of that quality... I think it`s fair. And you probably wont ever need to replace it. Here is the reply from Ian from Infinium And here is the document atached to the mail: http://www.bgprodavnica.com/temp/AN-01.pdf Seams not problem to have 0-5V analog output, but what do yoiu think/sugest about integration into MBox. What kind of Opamp use for it`s buffer?
-
Hm, well... I see yesterday something like starting fro 7$. Maybe it was kit, and assembled 30$. Annyway, I like those. So is there a easy way to integrate it?
