  1. ofcourse ASIO is mandatory . Im not telling otherwise. For my buffer setting and that project, it sucked , btw no less than 512 sample, I consider that huge already. Sure less cpu usage gives tighter midi too.
  2. i tried it only for fucks sake once, soft synth project, normal asio : 30% cpu, asio4all : 80% occasional 95% peaks :o
  3. wow , asio4all does the opposite, slows down your system like fuck. Get a real soundcard like RME or Lynx if you are serious about it.
  4. rubber buttons are the best things to make music (elecrtribe, mpc ...) :DDDDDD thanks, I needed a laugh
  5. ok i gave up before someone comes and ask for balance out SID's
  6. yeah, pretty much. The choice is yours. You want to employ the zero crossing trickery , or you want to employ the voltage out DAC for CV. First is transparent, second is conventional and can we say, universal. Take your pick!
  7. USB is ridicoulusly bad for anything realtime audio related. No way around it ?
  8. i wanted to use these IC's for preamplification before the big wattage, but digital stuff effectively scared me away. Now Im into discrete, but my crossovers will be digital ;) here is how the pga looks in discrete: http://www.acoustic-dimension.com/attenuators/attenuators-main.htm now imagine, you only step back & forth when ... (or not)
  9. judging by the popularity of this topic , "analog saturation" isnt the magic word around here LOL!!! You ppl should definately look at what comes out of the back of an analog mixer, its full of added harmonics. With these PGA specs in mind , you might as well sum in digital realm , 1+1 = 2 !!!!! sorry im drunk
  10. The purpose is: If I use the digital potentiometer in audio volume control, will I experience zipper noise? There is a noticeable zipper noise. However, we have developed an external zero-crossing detector that effectively reduces the zipper noise. Please refer to AD5290 datasheet Audio Volume Control section for synth usage I would definately forget about it. Here is how you make CV controlled VCA (definately employed in mixers , look at patent filled by Sony itself, think of the Oxford mixer fame ) http://tinyurl.com/36vrq7 http://www.thatcorp.com/datashts/an102.pdf
  11. Midi controlled mixers never catched on . What you propose I dont see much use either. You can feed the soundcard with -10dB signal and not loose any precision, then if you already talkin about PC, why dont just do it once you ' re inside ? I would just wait for the AOUT guys, once they have VCA you re set and you can build your mixer with generic parts, and the sort of with the distortion you want plus you can fade it as you wish.
  12. please try to think about it , what happens if you got a nice sine wave , and you start to attenuate back & forth , totally out of sync!! Thats right, a CLICKS& POPS ! Inside there is resistor ladder, like in other digital pots resolution is limited. Try to read those digipot threads, and you get whats the problem. You have to spend effort to fight off crosstalk. This layout offers itself for crosstalk big time . Typical mixer application is something like - overdriving the signal adding second and other harmonics, PGA is totally transparent, its usually employed as preamp before ampllification.
  13. some people still dont get the basic idea : PGA series are STEPPED ATTENUATORS. MAN WTF YOU THINK WHY "ZERO CROSSING DETECTION" IS THERE?
  14. whoops I forgot bout this topic a bit . I just spent some big time money on JBL money pit and its not over yet :'( I'll tell you the exact part numbers I have , tomorrow when its front of me .
  15. yup those are pretty impossible to get for nice price you have to diy.
  16. if there is GB im definately interested, let's send some sweden to pick up personally :p
  17. ToS, you still have to think of a way how you can pull 400 usd for mere software update ... -looks like some ppl can never step out of the shadow of commercial-interest-driven-boutiqe bull... ffs i tought i write a cynical comment too :P EDIT: http://www.jazzmutant.com/news.php Im sorry, its all bout the EURO these days ... oh yeah and shiny iPoods , give me a break =( ... and oldschool JBL's ;D
  18. #1 - Top Favorites (This Month) - Howto & Style #2 - Top Rated (This Month) - Howto & Style ...wow
  19. wow , I m definately interested, Im rebuilding a Harrison mixer as old as me :) I need some new VCA taper faders, and maybe I want to motor it up too , thank You very much for the chance , mods pls dont hurt this topic :>
  20. the fun begins when you want to register :D
  21. because lack of time i think of either MAM modular stuff or Doepfer stuff for myself. But the JH Compact clone I assemble myself , ok the SSM2045 too ;D
  22. Fairlight orchestra blast <- LOL , FTW also best of the bunch you mentioned ^^
  23. I think the reverb you use is 1000* of greater importance than type of the vintage vca
  24. i dont know what is hard to source about a 303. I bet scaling the CV can get you there and using recent counterpart of the vintage IC would have minimal impact. I am personallyy hunting for a SSM2045 <- vca + vcf in the same package total CV control , you can select 12 / 24 db/ oct, wow!
