  1. Yea, it's a pretty standard issue.. It's got to do with bleed through from the VCA. On my MB6582 (With 6582 SIDS) I'd say the noise is about 2%-5% of the synths volume. I've heard the older SIDS (6581) are worse. You could invest in a noise gate to help eliminate it if it was really bothering you.. Search around, I've read quite a few people talking about this issue. Regards Mike
  2. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Roland-TR-707-Rhythm-Composer-Drum-Machine-CIRCUIT-BENT_W0QQitemZ270311183606QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Musical_Instruments_Instruments?hash=item270311183606&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 I had to laugh, I like the nice engraving on the timber saying "Circuit Bended" DOH!
  3. awww.. man. Their probably was never any new tapes for it.. :-[
  4. You mean 1/4inch tape + razor blade + splicing tape? Tape echo's rock!
  5. I'm not sure how construction skills go etc, but my advice would be to make it (The basic Wilbabeast) first, then play around with it to see what works in terms of signal routing , FX etc.. Well, thats what I'm presently doing. As for spring reverb, are you sure? how big is the spring tank (Bigger equals lusher, smaller equals klangy)... My impressions of playing with the SID is that a spring reverb might not be it's best partner, but each to their own, and I'd love to hear the result. If you used the reverb tank as some sort of feedback loop with the sid, that might be getting pretty interesting.. tuned feedback. Regards Mike
  6. You sure about that? In the last week I've had the cops around to my place at 3:00pm on a tuesday, and last night at 7:00pm.. And do you know whats horrible about it? Is that we were all wearing headphones, no amplification, and we were using an electronic drum kit! I'm pretty sure he got bored of hearing the kick drum beater.. fuk, I've moved to headphones to try and make him happy, and I BOUGHT AN ELECTRONIC DRUM KIT!!! We even had the whole kit on a big rubber mat to reduce the floor noise. I can't win. The next time I get some neighbour complaining about something, instead of being nice and helpful (& spending cash on solutions) I'm gonna act like a crazy violent fuker, because, in the past thats worked real well... Lesson learned. Speaking of annoying neighbours, my mate had his neighbour come up and ask him to turn off his fan heater as the noise was distracting.. I've also had a neighbour ask me to take the sausages off the BBQ as the smell was keeping awake.. lol.. Regards Mike
  7. yea, the Justice photo.. apart from the fact that they both look completely munted.. "Hey, why are my filter sweeps not working anymore?" "Is it because we are playing off a CD?" "No, my controllers not on, or even plugged in" "Mer!"
  8. I've been playing with my MB-6582 for a few hours now, and have got a question.. In Poly mode, with the filter on a Lowpass or a combination that involved Lowpass, the output is rather distorted if a chord is held down, ie it seems like the filter is distorting (Try Preset 016) This distortion goes away when the filter is bypassed. I'm not complaining, I actually like it, just wondering is this normal with a 6582 SID? (I guess so, as all 4 of mine seem to do just the same) I guess the above also is the reason why many of the lead patches sound so damn dirty -> distortion of the filter. Regards Mike
  9. Celebration! Worked it out.. Sounds MAD! One classy synth.
  10. SUPER DUPER! I've soldered up most of the control surface. and connected it to the Main board => Everything is great! The only thing I have not soldered in is the matrix LED's as I didn't buy enough LED spacers.. and also, it'll be a pain making sure the led's line up with the panel holes.. It looks as if everything is working perfectly & I've uploaded the preset patches and thats all good. My only issue is that i'm at work now (With my MB-6582) and I don't have a keyboard to try it out.. i thought i'd take mios studio on a memory stick and play it off the PC, but I forgot to take the file!. The work computer does not have DL ability. Is there anyway, I can get it to make a sound (apart from the start up blips) so I can hear what this thing can do? I see there are some presets called 'Bassline demo' but how do I make em play? Excuse my eagerness, just very happy at them moment!. Regards Mike (Pics soon)
  11. Thats sad news about your soldering iron.. I must say tho, I've had my crappy "jaycar" (electronics store in Australia) soldering iron for about 10 years now, it cost me $18 and I've used it on everything i've built.. from xox boxes -> 1176 compressor clones -> MB-6582 -> MB-Seq and repair of heaps of synths, and it's never let me down.. It's got no temp control, no on/off switch, just a power cord. Just out of interest, what solder are you using? you have not changed to lead free solder have you? Regards Mike
  12. That could help, but because your MB is crashing when you connect it to something that is earthed, doing the above might just stop it from working..? did you try, as smash said, reversing the audio outputs? I'm still thinking it's something to do with the way you have wired up your power transformer.. triple check it's how it should be.. (Or are you running of a wall wart?) Regards Mike
  13. On a side note, just so I get this 100% right... I've uploaded the OS to core 1, because the jumper in J11 was set to core 1 for the midi out.. So, to get the OS on core 2 and core 3 and core 4, I re-upload the MB6582 OS to each core one at a time? Is there anything I need to change in MIOS Studio for each pass? Regards Mike
  14. You could use a DI box between your MB & Desk.. it sounds like some grounding issue to me.. like there is a voltage potential between your MB's ground, and your desks ground.. (For the hell of it, measure it with your multimeter) http://www.wikirecording.org/DI_box It will need to be fixed, but a DI or even an audio transormer could help for the mean time. Regards Mike
  15. With the Blue LCD, the contrast works fine, where as the black&white LCD, the contrast did nothing.. (From memory, I don't have it with me now) Regards Mike
  16. I didn't do anything fancy with the MB-6582 base board (Solder the tiny pads underneath etc) so I assume that means it's running in 4-bit mode? Regards Mike
  17. Woohooo! Uploaded MB-6582 OS & stuffed it with one SID, and it LIVES!! IT LIVES!!! I'm stuck with the boring lead patch, but still.. IT LIVES! Regards Mike
  18. The backlight on the b&w lcd is LED, and it works just fine.. just the display shows 2 rows of black squares after powering up. At first I thought that the PIC did not have MIOS installed, but when I soldered up the blue one, I got the nice "READY" message.. I'll have another look tonight. Cheers. Mike
  19. I had a few quiet nights at work, [i hope my boss don't read this.. lol ] so I finished off the baseboard etc.. and tested it with just one Pic placed in IC socket. I'm presently running it off a C64 powersupply, but eventually, I'll construct my own.. I like the jumpers on the baseboard to configure it in a variety of ways.. nice. The Blue LCD worked perfectly.. I got the nice "READY" message. The Black & White one not so good.. All I got was 2 rows of black squares.. (For a split second, it looks like the word "READY" or some other short word appears in the black squares upon power up.) I've quadrupled my checking of it's wiring... I'm not hugely fussed, because the blue one works/looks nice, but I would like to know why the black one does not work so great. http://www.zyscom.pl/katalog/ym2004a.pdf. I'm a little bit confused about uploading the application to the Cores as well.. but I'll do a bit of reading and hopefully find the answer. I got a few parts in the mail as well.. the tact switches off ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330280842438&ssPageName=STRK:MERFB:IID And some 3mm LEDs.. (I'm a sucker for red, so thats what i'm using... I don't like the superbright ones either, so these are old fashioned red ones that look red when they are not going) No huge advancements on the construction phase.. I'm looking at the best way to physically mount the keyboard as the B&O case is not the easiest bit of metal & wood & plastic to work with. Regards Mike
  20. thats very good news!
  21. Sorry there boss, there was no malice in my message at all.. I was trying to be helpful. Regards Mike
  22. Whats the saying? Give a man a fish and feed him for a day.. Teach a man to fish and he will be fed for the rest of his life.. http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=application_development Even tho it's a bit of a head f#$k, read it all... I'm pretty crap at DOS etc, but i managed to find my way around and enable the J5 outputs etc for the 8 trigger outs.. Regards Mike
  23. You don't need a pic burner for what you want to do, so don't stress over that. Just search around for how to update the asm files.. it's out there & I found it.. If you are lazy, you could leave these buttons out, as they are not essential.. (Handy tho) Regards Mike
  24. really? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PKG5-CIRCUIT-PANEL-PCB-DIY-Prototype-Board-130X250-C5_W0QQitemZ120312702703QQcmdZViewItemQQptZBI_Connectors_Switches_Wire?hash=item120312702703&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 This is what I used... cheap too.
