Hi! First stuff first: CONGRATS to your working QuadSID! :D The noise you describe indeed comes directly out of the SID and is pretty normal. The 6581s are a little bit noisier than the 8501s, but the noise is a little "bug" (if you want to call it so) of all SIDs. It´s very typical for C64 vintage synthi sounds and come in pretty handy even. If you *really* do not want this you could use e.g. a noise limiter. Greetz

Answer for the universe: 99 ;D ;D ;D ;) Okokok, to get back: Yeah, you can combine the modules (just add an "and" between all the lines). Depending on the application you´re running some modules are limited though (e.g. the MB64 does not allow Encs, the MB64E allows pots, encs and everything else). So the *hardware* can control everything easily, it´s the application where you have to ask what *can* be used. BUT: 2 AINs, 4 DINs/DOUTs are easily possible without any problems. If you want to find out what app can use what exactly check them all out at ucapps.de (I´m not *exactly* sure if it´s stated in the wiki). Greetz & GOOD LUCK! :)

I *KNOW* you probably don´t want to hear this, but read this: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php and look at the Midibox Gallery (in the forum and ucapps.de). There you´ll get a lot of impressions and ideas what´s possible and how. Really read the Wiki, all (?) your questions are answered there. ;D (Reminds me of: "What is the purpose of life?" - "42")

AIN with 40-pin IDE cable (easier than soldering !!)
pay_c replied to jeb's topic in Design Concepts
Adapting the Eagle file to your needs is really not to hard, I did that, too. Just download the boards you need from ucapps.de, load them into Eagle and copy all stuff to one board. From there on you only have to connect all the supply lines (5V, GND and signal lines) correspondingly and start wiring up everything. It´s a work of quite some hours to do bigger projects, but normally it´s worth it. The only point is that perhaps some people did that, but it´s always a highly project-specific solution, so *normally* you will not be able to use it straight-forward. Just as an suggestion. Greetz! :) PS: Nope, I did *not* connect IDE cables as I only had to bring the signals to the board in the end (pots, encs, AINs, DINs and DOUTs integrated in one BIG stripboard). ;) -
Thaaaat´s some good point, had the problem like some times but never thought of that. Will try that next time. :-*

Using it on speech (second line some synth/saw/sine whatever) plus some delay is also a little nice effector. :) (PS: I like delays so I put them ANYWHERE ;D ;D)

Eeeeeeeeeerrrr, are you sure, Wilba? Super / Ultra bright LEDs normally need more current & voltage (like 1,5 Volts and 30 mA) and so you should go *down* with the resistance to something like 150 Ohm (but not much more as the 74HCxxx´s are not capable of bringing up to much current) so you got a nice bright LED.
-
The only thing I know are 1,8 mm LEDs. Try a google search on that, should be somewhere (I only know them in a bright nice red version @ Reichelt). There are also 1,5 mm LEDs, but as they are build in a rectangle form and the light´s coming out at the side of the rectangle (and there is the 1,5 mm round piece) this is not as small as it could be. Whats about SMD LED´s? They come in various forms and the soldering is not to hard with some practice. As long as you don´t buy extra (ultra) bright LEDs everything will be compatible with the DOUT. Greetz!

As long as you don´t put anything on J1 (it´s useless now) you don´t *have* to remove it. The only important part to certainly remove is the regulator. Greetz! :)

So, soviel dazu. AAAAAAABEEEEEERRR: BITTE lern was draus! BITTEBITTEBITTE!

This is normal! The recitifer "sucks" about 0,7 V and the 78xx needs at least ~ 1,5 Volts over it´s reference voltage to work properly. This means: 5V + 1,5V + 0,7V = 7,2 V -> You should have at least 7,5 V coming from your PSU. Greets! :)

--------1-------1-------1------>+5V ---x----2---x---2---x---2------ --------3-------3-------3------>GND x: Drill there ;D
-
Normally a normal stripboard is ideal for that, I did that a dozen times. Put the pots there in a row and only drill the middle strips open between every pot. Outer and inner strip goes to GND/5V. The rest can be soldered to some connection port (SIL header or whatever). Greetz

Totally agree with you both. I´ll also stick to XP as long as possible and in the meantime will try to go over to Mac and/or Linux. Linux indeed is very far in the meantime and working with it is really fast so that´s a god point (beside the COOOL feature to get all your "normal" open-source software needed free by directly downloading it). Mac´s are still a little to expensive for me, but let´s see in some years. That point with bringing up more bells and more whistles - used by nobody - really annoys me like hell. A REAL revolution would be the step back and reprogram all the stuff for higher speed and efficiency. But that (I´m pretty sure) will keep some dream (you still remember the time when your computer actually *did* the stuff by clicking the mouse and not walking the hard drive for half an hour? When *the computer* waited for *the user* and not vice versa?). Just as an example: Still know DOS´s "md temp"? How much work was that for the PC? No nothing at all. Now if you want to do the same command in Windows the computer (depending on your RAM) runs the harddrive like there´s no tommorow... :P :P :P

Hi there! Some warning words for anybody here, who is about to get some new PC/laptop etc. I got my new laptop right this weekend (ooooouuuuuweeeee!!! :) ) and started it right away (typical). As I got it from Dell I had no choice but to get it along with Windows Vista. So I started the machine: It's a brand new laptop with Duo processor and 1 gig RAM. Vista *alone* is occupying about 900 MByte of RAM!!!!!! So if you put another virus scanner there and a firewall here you have your whole RAM already occupied and Windows slows down dramatically! It's unbelievable! I bought that new laptop as my old one is slowing down as hell with XP (1,2 Ghz and 256 MB Ram) - but NOW my OLD laptop is even faster than my new one with Vista!!! :o :o :o And all that because of some f***** graphical - not needed in any case - effects. There's not one big difference to XP as far as I got to know Vista right now, just that it needs RAM like hell and it's popping up messages every minute. Also the new menus are so dumb like whatever. The hardware management consists only the very very soft buttons, whistles and bells. The real hardware changing is burried down SOMEWHERE (up to now I have no idea where). Autostart managing is also not working properly and so on and so on... So:IF YOU HAVE THE CHOICE STICK TO XP!!! That even counts extremly more if you want to make music with it (imagine all those popping messages within some live act or similar). For me, I will wreck the laptop down to it's bits and start all over with Windows XP (I still have it with my old laptop). There's absolutely no choice for me as I want to WORK with that laptop not WAIT all the time and click away pop-ups every 30 seconds. Somebody else has similar experiences? Hope I helped anybody with this little statement.

There are a lot of "low-noise" designs out there. Just try a little google search on this phrase. Papst fans are known to be pretty low-noise and many providers of hardware stuff give you the dB noise amount of the fans in their cataloges. a) doesn´t change to much in 90% b) YUP! Although difficult, that´s right c) :-\ :-\ :-\ d) the prime super solution - although the most expensive one Thought about bringing in one big fan (100 mm) instead of two small ones? Perhaps you can drill the case up for that? That would really bring down the noise. Greetz!

Yup, that´s right. Actually I´m only trying to sell stuff on Ebay and only buy stuff if I really can get some pay-off. Like in the beginning of ebay you saved about 50% of the original price - nowadays you have to spent 50% more than the new price with some stuff! -> Enough stupid people with enough money still out there! ;D But it´s really like that, if you look up the price for let´s say mobile phones, digital cameras or other similar stuff you can be 99% sure that you´ll get it a lot cheaper by a small froogle search than *USED* on Ebay.

Displaytech). Grüße!

Speachless! 1000´s of thumbs up, your frontplate designs always do rock, artesia! Congrats again! -
