  1. got my 808 control surface to fit in a teko tekbox and is designing a new base pcb

      nice! can we haz pics?

I'll start a blog on this soon with pics. The CS is on vero. It's a tight fit to get all the base parts in, even with SMD so I might go back up to the next size box.

btw, this is just the control section. I have a drum module that I plan to interface this with

  2. Yes and it doesn't clone on any of the cores (at least it's consistently wrong) I guess the other question is does it need the CAN bus to operate as a slave core? Can I upload the .hex on core 2 and move on?
  3. I'm putting in a few mods to my MB6582 and getting around to one outstanding issue since I've built it. The CAN bus isn't working so I can't clone the core. So far I've replaced R80 twice and nothing works. Here are the stats: 1. All 4 cores are stock from Smash - I'm assuming they aren't the problem since they've all been checked and post a "Ready" status 2. Core 1(ID:0) has 2 6581 set to 12v jumper - this pair and core is working great  which is why I've waited so long to try core 2 3. Core 2 (ID:1) has 2 8580 set to 9v jumper - not getting hex via midi jumper change or cloning from core 1 4. Cores 3 (ID:2) and 4 (ID:3) are installed but not populated with SIDs, again cloning doesn't work Using a continuity check on the pads for R80 the measurement is .781 with the 1k resistor installed and .990 without R80. Any ideas?
  4. Received the window. Fits like a glove. I'll post pics when I'm done with some new mods tomorrow.
  5. PM sent. thanks
  6. From their website the minimum sample order is 30 euro. For the total number of knobs for the MB6582 and maybe a few other future projects (you know 1 project isn't enough :ahappy:), you should hit that total with no problem. Color options are little low though. I posted their current stock list which can be found here Drehknopf DK16-190V3 A.6/4,5 AT=14 schwarz soft-grau (grey on black) - Qty 1 Drehknopf DK16-190V3 A.6/4,5 AT=14 schwarz soft-grau 1677498 (grey on black, not sure of the difference) - Qty 1381 Drehknopf DK16-190V3 A.6/4,5 AT=14 schwarz soft-rot 3092 (red on black) - Qty 397 Drehknopf DK16-190V3 A.6/4,5 AT=14 schwarz soft-transparent klar (transparent on black) - Qty 3144 Drehknopf DK16-190V3 A.6/4,5 AT=14 schwarz soft-wei (white on black) - Qty 202 Hope this helps. Dan
  7. wiring up my handheld 808. It's no sammich, but it sure is tasty.

  8. Thanks guys.
  9. If I recall, some time ago there were acrylic windows made for the MB6582. If anyone has spares and looking to sell or knows who made them please let me know. Thanks, - Dan
  10. OK 2 LCDs it is then. :)
  11. I'm not sure if this can be done easily but I'm in the process of integrating my MB808 and Zoom MRT3 into the same box. However, last week I thought about digging out my old edrum modules and adding a trigger system. I really think having multiple 2x16 LCDs is ridiculous so is there a way to easily switch between the 2 LCD buses and select which bus controls the LCD at any given moment?

If those are L293DNE (cant really make out the id) then maybe a new MB_MF module with far less components than the current one.
  13. Yes, but to save yourself any later setup you could also install all 4 cores leaving out only the SIDs. For example, I have all 4 cores but only 4 SIDs. When I get more SIDs, I can just install them and start playing.
  14. I use FLStudio ( I don't care if its got no street cred ) when recording, but most sequencers and keyboards that can transmit MIDI work just fine. I don't store ensembles or sequences in the unit, but that option is available as well. Like Wilba said, if you purchased PICs preloaded with a bootloader like the ones from AviShowTech (SmashTV) then you can load the HEX right from MIOS Studio. It takes about 2 minutes to load the HEX and format the banksticks. Then you're off to rolling you're own tunes. I hear what you're saying about being nervous. When I completed mine, I waited a month before I actually turned it on to test the voltages. I was so worried that I put something in backwards or in the wrong spot, that I didn't want to be disappointed. Everything turned out great though. Wilba created an excellent SID setup and its amazing to play with.
  15. I agree, I'm just stuffing in a USB module and a headphone amp. Those are small enough to get in even without a riser. Anything else is really going to require some creative additions.
  16. Sorry, it would be very unlikely. At best, with some board reengineering, maybe 1 AOUT placed above the case fan section and 2 filter boards above the SIDs. Anything more and you might have a board getting to friendly with the LCD cable. With all that crammed in there you'll need to isolate the boards with a non conductive layer to prevent shorts and by that point you'd really want something moving air in there. An alternative would be create a new rib to place between the top and bottom of the PT-10 to raise the height of the box by about 1-1.5 cm. You'd need to get a new taller back panel or fabricate an extension to make it look right. I've been thinking of internal add-ons as well. The rib/riser will likely be my solution to get my add-ons on the inside. I plan on getting something laser cut in acylic to make the rib glow.
  17. I did bend them a little and set them in the sockets before soldering. Doing so allowed me to make sure the alignment was right.
  18. Sure no problem. You might want to gently prebend the ends then hook the boards together before soldering. since these are semi rigid cables, when it comes time to bend the cable they will be aligned quite well. I've opened and closed this case about 15 times when adding the fan and other miscellany. So far the cables haven't snapped. Dan
  19. I used the 6" ribbon from mouser that were already pre-scored at the ends cables and soldered them from the underside of the control surface to the top side of the base board. I just tucked the rest inside making sure that the cable did not fold completely. The nice thing about the longer cable is that I can take the top off and unscrew the baseboard without additional cable tension. I've had no problems with them. I can post some pictures if that helps.
  20. I just ordered 2 samples of those today. I've been toying with the idea to integrate the 808 into a small sequencer with 2 8x8 led matricies in an 8x16 setup something like a portable SEQ with a 40x2 LCD with basic controls and a DUO LED matrix for rapid track editing. I'm still working through PCB and noticed the MAX7219 was likely a better solution than multiple 74HC595 since it only requires 1 resistor. A few years back a guy named Narwhal used it by repinning the AIN pins. I'm not sure where he landed with it but I'd like to create a driver using the MAX7219 with the duo led matrix. Let me know if you have any luck with it. I'll be working on the same thing myself.
  21. I think its briefly mentioned in somewhere in the lead engine documents that the 6581 has a defect but under the FAQ it also states: Honestly, I've been able to compensate for issues with the 6581 on my MB6582 by changing a few parameters to get a similar (and by no means exactly the same) sound or I just dont use the patch at all. If its a huge concern, maybe you can grab a 6582 or 8580 and swap out some parts in the sammichSID.
  22. Great job. It reminds me of some of the steampunk projects out there which also use brass on wood.
  23. has found all this midiboxing to be quickly distracting from everything else I'm supposed to be doing

  24. WOW!! :o Another MidiBox that actually looks like it belongs in studio. I really like where we're going in terms of professionalism. BTW, I'm really digging those DIN5 jacks. They appear to be panel mount and have a nice finished look to them once they're mounted. Where did you get them from?
  25. I finished my MB-6582 and I'm looking to start a new project. Since I missed the group buys, if anyone has spare MBSEQ v4 CS PCBs, I'd like to buy one. Thanks, Dan
