Article in Computer Music/Future Music and dumb question

yay - it's another STVSLP (SmashTvSlightlyLengthyPost).... Personally speaking, I think I've learnt lots doing the research. But the help provided by people such as yourself when i have got stuck has been absolutly amazing - there is little to no chance I'd be able to complete my project without it.... maybe a bullet pointed list and some links for the ultra new? -

hey doc, I take your points on board and I'm in total agreement with your sentiment. My take is like this: Ever been to someone's house who likes ppl to take their shoes off at the door? Personally I much prefer being told before I get into the house, rather than being in the middle of their big white carpet in my big boots then being told - and then having to aplogise and feel a bit foolish despite not knowing any better. It's one of those being polite by being upfront things - which is one of my favourite traits of the Dutch... And once again I reiterate - I'm not having a moan at anyone, just thinking out loud... -

Carsten, I spent WEEKS researching and going over and over stuff till I got my head around it.... A case in point is that I haven't finished my box because of the amount of planning and research that you need to put into the project before the build (well that and some newbie stupidity involving a cap round the wrong way), unless you want a whole lot more work down the line.. only cause I thought it was due to lazyness -

Hey Carsten, first off - let me say I'm not having a go at anyone in any negative way. Just thinking out loud with a possibly positive suggestion to get ppl started. what makes you say that? I found the noob sticky really helpful when I first came to ucapps. But what I actually meant (and didn't say) was something like the noob thing could be sent. that's kind of the point; there is an awful lot of info and a lot to learn. It's a complex subject and you need a certain amount of dedication and commitment to finish a project. -

I agree - and I'm definately all for helping out people; what I'm talking about is questions that are blatently through being lazy... I know I've had lots of advice and help from people, which I am most grateful for. But to be honest, quite often you'll learn a lot more researching the question (not to mention learning a whole lot of xtra stuff other than the current problem that comes in handy later). what I'm talking about is questions like: how do I burn the LC app onto the PIC using a PIC burner - which means they blatently haven't bothered reading the MIOS introduction documentation. and how do i connect buttons to the DINX4? The point i'm trying to make is it might be nice to give ppl the heads up on the "Ucapps Best Practice", so they know what is expected from them, they don't expect too much from people and start getting the most from the community right from the off... -

Is it me or since that article in CM/FM (can't remember which one) has there been a lot of people asking really dumb/lazy questions because they blantantly haven't done the reading they need to? is there a way to email the Noob 4 Dummies to ppl when they sign up for the forum? perhaps this could help ppl get the idea of how they should be starting out and using ucapps? D -
sounds like you need to go back and do some reading!

cheers for the update! there is a way to toggle the view - that's by using something like bome (spelling?) which maps midi commands to key strokes, so you can emulate the shift-tab. So that side is cool. What I really need to know is does ableton 6 still re-trigger the clip when you select the "clip box" via midi? but - very good call on using the arrow keys - I nearly forgot about those (slaps forehead)! I can map those at a pinch...
-
no it 100% doesn't work in 5 WITHOUT re-triggering the clip - see my original question....

I'm currently designing my first batch of PCBs for my lit button strips. I have 2 modules connected to the PCB: DOUT and the DIN. a)Can I run the VS from say the DIN and use it for the - of LEDs too? or b)do I need to have the VS of the DIN going to the buttons and the VS of the DOUT going to the LEDs? thanks. D

cheers for the reply - must be new in 6 cause that defo doesn't work in 5 - i better upgrade pronto then...

Can anyone please tell me if there is a way to the following in Live 5 / 6: While in the clips window I want to be able to assign a midi button to select the channel so I can view the waveform as it's playing (i.e. so i can see when a breakdown is coming up) The way to do it using a mouse is to click the clip's box to the right hand side of the triangle that triggers the clip start. I've tried mapping a midi button to the box, but when you use it ableton re-triggers the sample - which is a no no if you are in the middle of playing it live.

given the new ROHS rollout, what happens if one were to repair an old solder point and the two styles of solder end up mixing. Is this likely to cause reliability issues? What about production line soldered joints, are the lead free lines running at higher temps?

that's the jazz mutant lemur innit?? It's bad, very bad.... But when I saw it you had to use their APIs and objects and it was very expensive.... We need a big touch screen interface for midibox that you don't need to rob a bank to fund the project (and a hover bike too please).
-
cheers - that makes sense to me now.....

out of sheer morbid curiosity - why store the var in a char and not an int?
-
why would you want to store an int in a var char?
-
yeah you do! unless it's got the bootstrap loader already burned like the ones from SmashTV....

uploading mios is as easy as loading an app....
