  1. yeah, if I had to do lots and lots I'd get the crimping tool, but needle nose pliers are easy enough to crimp with...
  2. you can use the Midiboxes with out the pots - you just need to ground unused inputs. but, if you are building a box, have a good think if some pots could come in useful - for things like EQ, filtering, softsythn/plug in parameter control.
  3. ha ha! only kidding! welcome to the board... also you might find the pots are very useful......
  4. lol! that's such a great description! yeah, that tells you which pin is positive and which is negative. In the case of the pic you posted: the center pin is - and the "ring" is +
  5. any electronics store will be have a suitable wall wart any wallwart with an inut voltage of 120v and an output of 15V 500ma will do just make sure the pin config for plus and minus are the same, or if they aren't solder the original plug to the new WW's output cable.
  6. if you've got the lazertran why not experiment? use a small bit of the material you are going to use for the face plate and try it both ways, that way you'll know which gives the best effect... plus u can then experiment with the top coats, sanding etc and find what you like best before doing your panel
  7. This could be great for someone..... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MICROMAT-CNC-DRILL-ROUTER-PCB-MANUFACTURE-SIGNWRITING_W0QQitemZ150035075581QQihZ005QQcategoryZ46742QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  8. lol, yeah I was sporting a great burns on 2 fingers for quite some time due to not letting the iron cool down before trying to tighten a loose tip. now I use pliers, hot or cold...
  9. what sort of filter do I need to buy for working with PCBs? Is it just for the fibreglass or are there other nasties too?
  10. thanks George, They come in packs of 10 so I'll order some in that size and a couple of single new ones in various sizes d
  11. i'm about to order some MM Reground Carbide Drills drill bits from Mega, bit I have no idea of the best diameter to order. Suggestions pls. ta!
  12. which type of buttons from RJS are you using?
  13. audiocommander is sooooo right!!! in fact - do a test print, and get someone else to proof it!
  14. assuming the supply voltage is of the correct type: a) either cut the wire on the wall wart to remove the male connector and attach the wires to the core voltage in pins (either solder directly or put a SIL plug on the wires) OR b) make a lead with a SIL plug (to the core) and at the other end have a female socket to take the plug from the wall wart. in both cases polarity is unimportant when connecting to the core
  15. glad to be of service
  16. not having used Lazertran yet (have some at home ready), these comments are based on 2nd hand info, but as far as I know the Lazertran is pretty strong so breaking it is not that much of an issue, and you can reposition on the front panel in b4 it's dried.
  17. so stryd, why did you call him autistic?? - just kidding :P
  18. having watched this thread I have a small comment: perhaps we could offer more help by suggesting that the planning and research are done to a level where one could understand the reason why that many buttons are a bad idea. I for one often start projects with the idea that it must be the most complex thing in the world, once gaining understanding you realise that the best solution is often very simple and non complex to operate, but can atchieve all that a very complex solution would. It's like this; there were a lot of physics ppl about b4 Einstien, but it took him to take something so complex and turn it into a simple (in relation) equation and theory.
  19. those are surface mount tacts, so you don't want those ones, plus you probably want ones with a bit of a stalk on them so you can put keycaps on then. tacts means you feel a click when you press it, your mobile phone probably has them on the menu keys and on the send and end call buttons. have a look through the forums, there is more info on buttons than you can poke a stick at
  20. have you thought about trying: polycaprolactone aka: Polymorph, Friendly Plastic, CAPA, TONE, Shapelock? for more info checkout: http://reprapdoc.voodoo.co.nz/bin/view/Main/Version2OfThePolymorphExtrusionHead#MaterialPreparation scroll down a little way and you'll see instructions on how to use it.
  21. I've got some 10k ALPS pots with switches, metal shaft, I had to get a custom factory order in the end, so I have some spare. P/m me if you'd like to chat about getting some
  22. yeah, it's not as easy as saying it I know ;) Sounds like you are wiser that most, Silver is a current favourite of mine...
  23. very true, and it's only going to get better (or worse depending on your perspective) as the dollar devalues or possibly even crashes in the future. Time to covert $US to something of value if you're holding em.... your P3 is looking really nice!
  24. finally went with Mouser - cheers for the tip Consumer; as expected the shipping cost 3 times as much as the plugs and cables, but still worked out much cheaper than sourcing in the UK which worked out at £12 ($23 US) per Nema 5-15p plug (no cable, just the plug)!!! I get so jealous of the price of stuff in the States...
  25. agreed Mr Stryd, that and the advent of DJ Mixed Compliation Albums has definately changed things up.
