Hehe J. We all live too well yeah. Ripper. Cool. I'm not starting to measure everything hehe. I get why u do it though and all respect to u for that. I'm all in for doing it the natural way yeah, hehe not gonna eat everything raw hehe got u. There is too many things that we eat that is made from powder, lots of hidden salt and fat in that stuff. I try to keep it natural more and more nowdays, like eating the clean meat instead of all those things that I 1: have no control of whats in it and 2: is way too unhealthy anyway. Clean meat, if eating bread, lots of nice stuff on top and little bread. And mostly dark bread, and I don't mean dark bread colored by syrup hehe, the healthy kind. Most bread are tagged around here with a scale that shows how healthy it is. A nice thing... However, my problem ain't so much the food and quantity of it. I usually keep it in small portions, and I'm not a guy who likes a lot of food. My problems lays more in the snacks section. I tens to eat too much snacks. The other problem is my suppers that usually is around 20.00. That's where I traditionally have ended up with a big plate of pasta or such like it. So I cut out most o fthe snacks, eat very little of that nowdays, and that's no big problem either, I get really motivated from seeing the weight loss. And for the suppers, I never eat more than a light meal except weekends, but then we usually drop dinner and have that later in the evening. My goal is to get to the point of feeling gooda and be able to do everything I want that I have had to abandon because of the weight. Like street blading, guess it is best explained by comparing it to skateboarding in the city only on aggressive type skates. That's fun, but last I tried I ended up injured because I am too heavy. Other thing I would like to start again is the kite jumping. Extremely fun. And one thing I have always wanted was to learn some kind of martial art, we ll see if I can find the time for it hehe. The only deadly martial art I know now is the sit-on-top-until-choked hehe. And I think that place lays around 85kg with the current musclemass. Of course that will also be built, so we ll see. For now I'm trying to learn the right way of eating and running in the woods 2 times a week, and soon start some more muscle building in the gym at least once a week for starters hehe. The funny thing is that now is the first time in a long time I am really up for all that, and looking forward to it. And that's not bad considering my current status hehe.

Nah, the PT stuff is over with. I had a really bad experience with that "funny" PT. About the pricing. She started to demand too much, at the same time she started not showing up for the appointments, comming with all sorts of stupid excuses. At the end of the day, she couldn't help me... Told me that she would follow this through - of course if I did - which I did until it really started to show through that she didn't know how to handle stuff when it wasn't exactly the way she thought it was. Complicated stuff - expensive stuff. On the other hand - I know how to loose those nice kilos, but the key here is finding a way to keep it all good for more than 6 months. So I need to not loose too much in too little time. Need to find the balance - it can't be too extreme, but I figure if I loose on average 1 kilo each week for less than one year, I will reach the goal, and more than that too. Well - I'm 180cm tall, and if I loose 1kg a week, I'll look like a stiff in the end :P. And right now I don't care if I have to use a year on it, as long as it gets me where I need to be, and ables me to stay there too ;). Man, it's exhausting to be where I'm at now, that's for sure. Luckily I have a job that keeps me active during the days - at least most of the days - some of them are in my office too, but I like being out in the field much better! If u have never been big (or otherwise sick) I don't think one could ever understand how it is to breath heavier than normal from going up the stairs, from taking a small walk etc... that stuff is mean. So that's what I'm tired of, and need to get to a better place hehe. I'm actually starting to write down now how it feels in different situation being that heavy. It's like carrying a 40kg backpack that u are unable to loose when u need a break :P. It is so easy to forget how things were when loosing the kgs - and when gradually loosing, it is so easy to not be aware of all the good changes - so that's why I write it down, so I will be able to see the changes much more clearly :D. Anyway, I walk / run in the woods (I live about right next to a pretty nice and large forest with nice paths for running) 2 days a week for 40-45 minutes - that's the start. After that my feet is having a hard time coping with the beating :P. So when I loose a little more, I'll start running more often - like 3-4 times a week. I run together with my dad, which is pretty nice. In addition I'm soon starting some muscle building excercise together with my friend - and that's one thing I really enjoy, coz there is one thing I aint - weak :P. That sorta training I master, and I am stronger than the avarage guy there, exactly because of the extra kgs I'm carrying around :P. The former PT lady had a hard time finding something that would really make me feel the muscles in the stomach area, but I found a couple of excercises that worked pretty good, and made me feel good, and not only because I realized how strong I really am, but also because it was fun doing it. Anyway - I'll be handing in a few more updates here than I've done till now ;). It's motivating for me too ;)

Consistency is definetly a key. I've been laying off the hard work for a period now. But still didn't go all the way out of my new habits luckily. I don't know what have happened in between my last update and now, but three weeks the numbers were 120.4, now today it's 117.2... So, not the biggest improvement in such a long time, but hell yeah, it's on the right path! :).

I throw myself into this also! The hammerman is a huge asset for this community. The countless stuff I've learnt from him shows how he takes pride in this, and is willing to do more than most of us will ever. All hail smash :P.

Dude... If u read what i wrote u will see that i said a commodore64 was bulky to drag along, and that the mbSID is the thing u want to have on gigs. A mbsid aint bulky at all. What i meant was, why drag along an old computer 30 years old actually, when u are needing the soundchip and not the whole box... Much better to build a modern mbSID then.

Hey and welcome. If you want a synth module I suggest u build a core-module, a SID-module and a powersupply (ucapps.de for schem - www.midibox-shop.com for kits). This way you gotta go all nasty with your C64 and rip it's SID-chip out of there and relocate it in the mbSID-module. (this part of the job is very uncomplicated as long as u protect it from static el. shocks which can kill it - it is in an IC socket so it's basically just to pull it carefully out of there) I don't know about mssiah cartrige (never tried it myself so I have no idea how this works). So - if u want to keep your C64 intact you have two options. 1 - use the mssiah cartridge and bring your C64 to the show everytime or 2. Go buy a SID chip off ebay or something similar. Occationally there is also SIDs being sold in the midibox forum's "fleamarket"... If u can part with your C64 - use it's SID chip. Anyway when u build it - be carefull to choose the right voltage for it - since there is basically two different types out there - one use 5v and 12v (6581) and the 8580 chip uses 5v and 9v. If u decide to build it, there is plenty of info and helpful people hanging around here. Personally I wouldn't doubt building one if I were gonna use it for gigs. A C64 is also a bulky thing to drag around, and it's old with all the negative sides of that fact. And yes, you are right, the mbSID can be played without any control surface connected. Just midi in and audio out will do in that case. But if u are a synth guy, u will definetly appreciate a control surface in live situations - but there's no problems in adding this later on either... so... Hope u have the answers to decide what to do. And oh - last thing: If I had 1 C64 - I would personally never pull it's SID - I would like to have it working. mmmmmm nostalgia! I would rather go find a chip online or something. It is a bit spendy (especially when u got 10 like I got :P) but definetly worth it.

I don't think it's neccesary to use a super duper speed 3.0 hub.. u only need a hub that can handle the traffic of two GM5x5x5s. But time will show... all I'm saying, not neccesary to shoot bird with canon :P. About the mirrored pcb idea. I agree, the practical downsides isn't really an issue if it's somewhat stationary module. But I'm not sure I like the idea aestethic-wise. But looking at it objectively it wouldn't be a very large problem if u only care about the practical stuff. EDIT. Now, I'm not gonna go all bossy here hehe, this is just a suggestion - would it be wiser to discuss the design stuff in the design contest thread, it is a bit confusing to have two threads about the same thing :P (hahaha like that's an unusual thing hehe) ?

Just an idea I ran into when making the mb6582 CS... It acually came from my neighbour (a printing technician or something like that :P). It wasn't good enough for the mb6582 CS because of its size, but for 1U 19" panels it would work just nice I expect! It came to my mind when u talk about acryllic ilmenator, and it should be pretty "cheap" too if I am to believe my neighbour. Idea was: 1. Cut the plexiglass to shape and drill the holes. 2. Design the graphical layout and save it in a format that the printshop can work with (my local shop can easily work with a PDF file and I suspect most of the other shops also do) 3. Deliver the drilled plexiglass and design file to the shop 4. They print the design, mirrored, on a selfadhesive foil in a range of background colors. 5. They glue the foil to the back of the plexiglass. 6. Whee u got a NICE LOOKING hi gloss CS. If u want to, u could even get em to "etch" your logo in it and u can put LEDs on the sides of the glass and have a iluminated logo too. When doing this, it's practical to paint the sides of the LEDs (or the inside of the drilled holes) black or something, so that the light from the LEDs doesn't confuse u with glow all over the place. The reason for this not working for the mb6582 CS is that I felt that the thin plexiglass would become too flexy when it is that large, but for a 19" front panel, it would be very possible to use a thicker plexiglass - say 3-4mm or so - that should be stable enough and more than that for a 1U 19" panel! Cutting the plexiglass and drilling it can be done manually if u are equipped. It can be done with small hand tools like a handsaw and a drill. This is pretty timeconsuming but not impossible at all. There are a few things to remember when drilling plexiglass by hand though. 1. The material doesn't flex very much, like wood. It is easy to break off chips from the material. The nature of drill bits makes it wobble if u use a hand drill. That vibration can be a nightmare. This is usually not a problem if u are drilling straight through holes, but you see the effect when u are to countersink. Using a drillbit doing this with a hand-drill makes a sort of triangular-round holes. If u have a drillpress that changes. The secret is to be able to hold both the material and drillpress steady. Same thing applies to metal, only the metal doesn't tend to shatter with vibrations. If u do this to wood or other softer material it doesn't matter, coz you just drill the hole, do the countersinking and set the screw in there and the wood will flex enough to look perfect without a perfectly done job on the drilling. 2. Sawing the plexiglass; u have to use a good saw. Preferably a fine tooth saw. Not too fine, or it will take forever. Also, be sure to cut straight the first time coz it is very hard to adjust the saw-line when started - remember it is a hard material. I usually use my bandsaw to cut this stuff. You can adjust direction while sawing a bit, and it also is much quicker. After sawing a (almost) perfect line, I use 120 grit or so paper to grind the edge and remove all the marks that the saw left. I believe if using "Perpex" glass, u can also use a blow torch to the edges afterwards to make it glossy again, but I have never tried this myself, but seen some vids on youtube only. (I don't have a torch) OK. this was a little bit more tutorialish than I meant for it to be - just wanted to give you guys an idea on alternative diy panels :). Of course, the easiest way is to pay yourself from all of this and get someone to do it for you, like ponoko, or other local cnc shops :). EDIT: PS. How about we run this contest out 2012, and then do a month or something with voting? How does that sound?

OK, a little off topic, but since u mentioned it: Rosch, take a look at my midibox 64e blog entries if u want to see how I did the backlight. A little bulky for existing designs such as mb6582, but if u make new designs like I did for this box and don't mind doing some etching urself, I found my method to be pretty neat. Also, kristal= GOOD JOB! :D
