  1. EDIT: ui ui.... @admins > wrong forum-section: could someone please move this to the BLM-Section... thanks Hi i took some time to calculate the total costs from all parts, inclusive build time, from the last BLM16x16+X Variant. i have done this because someone offered me 300€ for a working - not used- unit (excl Case), and i thougt its a bit too less , so a calculated...: here is what i got, for the whole unit: 16x16+X Cost what from pieces price Forreign EUR 4x4 softbuttons adafruit 18 $4,46 $80,28 € 71,45 DHL EXPRESS WORLDWIDE adafruit 1 $29,67 $29,67 € 26,41 PREPAID DUTIES AND TAXES adafruit 1 $24,37 $24,37 € 21,69 electronic components mouser 1 € 253,00 € 253,00 € 253,00 523-T3507-000 8pole Din-connector mouser 1 € 8,72 € 8,72 € 8,72 spacer formular 1 € 49,43 € 49,43 € 49,43 shipping formular 1 € 12,50 € 12,50 € 12,50 Main BLM PCB midibox 1 $75,00 $75,00 € 66,75 shipping midibox 1 $12,00 $12,00 € 10,68 case midibox 1 $270,00 $270,00 € 240,30 built time phatline 15 $20,00 $300,00 € 267,00 Shipping the ready thing 2 you country? 1 € 20,00 € 20,00 € 20,00 STM32-Variant Core STM32F407G-DISC1 Mouser(1x) 0 € 17 € 0,00 € 0,00 core pcb smashtv(1x) 0 € 10 € 0,00 € 0,00 core parts smashtv(1x) 0 € 13 € 0,00 € 0,00 midi io pcb smashtv(1x) 0 € 7 € 0,00 € 0,00 midi io parts smashtv(1x) 0 € 7 € 0,00 € 0,00 built time phatline(1x) 0 € 20 € 0,00 € 0,00 Core-8-Variant ca. midibox(1x) 1 $25,00 $25,00 € 22,25 SUMMED € 1.070,17 Its round 800 if you DIY Soldering and Assamble the whole device its round 550 if you CNC the case yourself ...You can play arround by download the open-office-document here: 16x16 costs.ods however i endet up that 300€ its too less... maybe that helps to get some overview what comes to you when you want to built your own the next run...

  7. Just continuing a discussion started in a pic from Sauraen. I asked if he noticed any problems driving that many LEDs, the answer was that everything worked out fine. Psykhaze asked about 74HC541, but this is implemented in the Core to take the load off the MCU driving the SRIO lines. (For better results resistors should be added at the 541 outputs to control the impedance/attenuate reflections.) Also, some degree of PWM control is possible in LED matrices but of course limited by the 1/8 multiplexing. There are LED driver chips as mentioned, but they run over SPI. The beauty of shift register designs is (as mentioned) wide availability, but from a programming perspective the usage is also very simple -- once the matrix driver is written -- just send a series of bits and latch in a regular cycle; the low processor overhead is easily predictable. While the standard BLM uses 220R /13mA peak for red LEDs, the BLM 16x16+X is driving blue LEDs with 56R, so more like 35mA peak. Of course only one 595 output will be on at a time with 1/8 multiplexing. Still, turning multiple LEDs on drops the supply voltage, so much so that I needed a power up delay to allow the logic to stabilise, and a local buck-boost regulator helped. My feeling is the "high" current demands put on the anode drivers could do with some improvement. From the current sink side, this is already solved by using NPN bipolar transistors. The row scanning means 8 or even 16 LEDs could be on at a time, but that's no problem for the transistor. An N-channel MOSFET would likely do a better job, but these are a bit more expensive with lower availability, and are more prone to ESD. Another common method is to use a ULN2803 (8-channel Darlington) current sink. The issue is the extra PN junction has the effect of raising 0V/ground, which in turn can cause problems triggering the DIN side, especially if the supply starts to sag/droop. It seems fine to use a plain old 595 output to drive LED anodes at low current. But what about higher current LEDs, or organ pipes? The simplest method might be to use a common emitter PNP with base and collector resistors. If a higher source voltage was needed, a cascaded NPN/PNP would work. (If a PNP had 12V supplied to the emitter and 5V switching on the base, it would never turn off.) Getting fancier, there are chips numbered 2981 which act as source drivers. The UDN2981 is from Allegro (availability isn't great); the MIC2981 can be ordered at Mouser with good stock levels at the moment. So maybe that's the answer. TPS2080/2081/2082 (dual) and TPS2085/2086/2087 (quad) look okay as chip-based MOSFET high side drivers. There are shift registers with better sinking capability (e.g. TPIC6595), but there's only one I've seen for sourcing: MIC5891. On paper it looks good (have to check the programming), but the pinout is different -- actually nicer than 595 IMO -- and I'm a bit wary of using "specialist" chips for long-term availability. Now I've got all of those part numbers down I can close most of my browser tabs :-)
  8. Hi folks, Since the BLM talks to the SEQ over MIDI. Would it be possible to build a bespoke BLM just using access to the Midi-map and MIOS codebase? I can't seem to locate the BLM midi protocol anywhere but I presume it must exist somewhere. Are there any other "gotchas" or SEQ unique things that restrict BLM's to the current designs (Latgids, Lemur, Launchpad etc?)

  10. I have a strange issue with my newly built BLM: When I start the SEQV4 and select all 16 steps in the selected Track (G1T1), then switch to the length layer and then to the velocity layer the BLM stalls with the "pattern" showed on the picture. I have to unplug it to fix it. Besides that everything works as supposed. In test mode I can lit all led at once. I have the PICF184685 so I suppose the brown out reset is not the issue and I run the newest firmware (project_with_4_mapped_ains) Before I put everything in the case I want to be sure it's not a hardware bug. Any ideas what my problem is? Thanks Michael
  11. Hi, The great design of BLM 16x16 by Andrew is certainly too microscopic (smd) for a butcher like me! Andrew help me a lot for debugging some shorts. I made a lot of tests but the BLM doesn't work. the core is Ok , search for a Seq (send each second the same message in Mios Studio) but nothing happens when push on silicon pad (no light and no message in Mios Studio) .the core draw about 34mA (lab power supply) i never plug it to a Seq. i test with the minicore and a classic core with default :project.hex BLM_scalar 1.0a , no issue so i would like to check the SRIO chain SC RC SO with an scope but i don't know the procedure! how to check IC and shmitt trigger? Thanks Nico
  12. Hi, I power the Seq v4 with USB , Fine , stable (since a month) i want to permute for a permanent dedicated PSU than USB in the seq case (BLM extension ready) so i've bought a meanwell 5V 3A at reichelt . Meanwell PSU this switching PSU made the Control Surface crash! ( i suspect interaction between supply switching frequency and the frequency of the CS matrix also ripple/noise) i could build filters to sleek the PSU but the config is a bit special. (filter have to be well designed for a certain current, BLM is not constent current, and if the CS crash the BLM will do too! don't like this sensible way) so i thinking use classic design PSU with transformer and a linear LT1085-5 regulator (not done yet) i never used this regulator but i will test. Is someone have experience , suggestion or tips with higher current than 7805 regulator. (perhaps another regulator familly than LT1085) Thanks Nico
  13. Hello Midiboxers how are you? Im really excited on this idea but really dont know if possible, want to ask to the masters if this is possible. I think the push layout and features are great and is like 95% compatible with the SeqV4, and also provide a 8x8 BLM plus a extra row, pitch bend stripe and everything probably you now, so IMAGINE to have the Seqv4 completly functional on push + the button matrix with pressure sensitive and aftertouch capabilities  :nuke: :pirate: Ok so my investigation about the push, its usb midi compatible so I guess we could connect it to the discovery board as a usb device and I think we can use the buttons without a problem, really dont know it we can send the display data to the push display, its possible to send the data via sysex and I guess we can do it this with the seqv4, my finding on this matter is in this links: https://cycling74.com/forums/topic/how-to-control-the-push-lcd-with-sysex-messages/ http://forum.djtechtools.com/showthread.php?t=79467 I prepare this graphic (see attachment) as a comparision and have some comments: The Buttons in the Pink square on the midi box are 14 in the push we have 12 available according the pic below so we miss 2 buttons but we also have the line of 8 buttons available ( cc36-cc43) but I guess we can leave this as is because they mark time divisions and I guess this could be usefull with the same purpose on the seqv4, so if this was the case we have just 2 buttons left from the seqv4 layout, I havent play yet with the seqv4 so please advice if we can leave 2 buttons out jejeje or put some shift something For the red square we have on the seqv4 16 knobs and 16 buttons on the seqv4 for push we have just 8 knobs with 16 buttons and a dysplay with 4 lines, so I gues we could put the dysplay parameters easily, the left side the first two lines on the push, the right side on the 3 and 4 lines, for the button first row the left side buttons the 2nd row the other 8, just see that we have less encoders but this are touch sensitive so I guess we can make them to assign left or right options, for example if we touch the pot this action is registered so if we turn the first move to the left this will take action with the 8 knobs as they where the left side on the seqv4 and the oposite for the right side, so with a touch and a small movement we can play 16 knobs and the data on the display will be the same as seqv4. Also we have to more knobs on the left side that are available that I guees should be tempo and something else. SO THE MAIN QUESTION HERE IS: IT IS POSSIBLE TO USE THE PUSH IN THIS WAY??????? And of course im more tha willing to embark in this journey and do it for the community I Have in mind a box with the seqv4 main cpu+PushedMidiBox with a lots of midi outs connected to synths and jam all along Regards
  14. Has anybody built a BLM with bidirectional two lead duocolor LEDs, where the two colors can be adressed by reversing the polarity? How would the scan circuit have to be designed in order to work with the standard midibox solutions? Of course, compared with the scalar board, the resistor-transistor arrangement of IC2 could be placed next to IC3 and another 74HC595 next to IC2. But then the scan algorythm would also have to scan each color sequentially. Why am I looking for such a solution? I evaluated the the switch of choice for my Synth project: For my needs, I only have single color buttons (yellow). But this button could also be interesting for BLM applications where duocolor would be needed (RGB is available as well). I am working on a versatile matrix PCB solution for my synth project, where single rows of a matrix can be cut to the desired length and the LEDs can be adressed individually via solder jumpers. These smaller boards can be bought much cheaper in small quantities than the propriatary matrix boards and in my case serve different needs.
