I agree with Alex here, I would be in for the same amount of displays... I'd even rather go for untracked shipping and assume full responsibility in case the letter got lost. This is also due to customs, because shipping costs are part of what they charge the duties on. With higher shipping costs I come closer to the 22,- € limit - if I stay under that (incl. shipping costs) no taxes at all will be charged. Best regards, ilmenator

Wenn es auf einer MIDIbox basieren soll, schreit das nach einer Eigenentwicklung. Je nach Größe deiner Dumps wirst du mehrere Banksticks damit füllen können, was evtl. recht teuer wird. Idealerweise sollte man also sowas wie ne Compact Flash Karte damit füllen. Das Interface sollte relativ einfach zu realisieren sein, siehe zB Circuit Cellar. Die Hardware-Anbindung und die entsprechenden Software-Routinen baue ich gerade - bis das veröffentlicht wird, wird aber noch einige Zeit ins Land gehen. Machbar ist es allemal. Um die MIDI-Seite, also den Empfang und das korrekte Aussenden der Dumps musst du dich selber kümmern - das sollte aber nicht wirklich kritisch sein. Und zuverlässiger - was die Datensicherheit angeht - als eine Floppy-basierte Lösung wäre sowas allemal. Grüße, ilmenator

Looking at the wiring of the piezos, I would not think that there is more than one velocity value transmitted. They only need to place four of these because of the size. I would think that the piezo that is hit hardest wins against the other ones. All pads pressed down at this instant will have the same velocity value, not just the four that are located near the most active piezo. Anyway I really see no disadvantage for about 95% of the users. In fact, I believe that hadn't you opened up the box, you would not have noticed that "limitation" ;). Best regards, ilmenator

Einer meiner Gründe ist, dass der Arbeitsabstand vom Display in den uns wahrscheinlich vorschwebenden Anwendungen deutlich grüßer ist als die übliche Distanz zwischen Augen und Handy. Das wiederum bedeutet, dass man die Schrift größer machen muss, womit der Vorteil der höheren Anzahl zur Verfügung stehender Pixel wieder futsch ist. Evtl. hilft hier der höhere Kontrast der modernen Displays etwas, aber das müsste man erstmal ausprobieren. Dann ist da noch der Kostenfaktor: selbst wenn ich mich auf 8 Kanalzüge beschränke, komme ich auf eine eher abschreckende Summe allein für die Displays. Wobei die Zahlen von Jack ja schon wieder etwas freundlicher klingen... Hmmh, das klingt auch schon wieder etwas positiver... Ich denke, ich werde eure Aktivitäten hier auf alle Fälle beobachten ;D. Actually, I see this as a positive point. It increases (software) compatibility between applications, so it should be easier to exchange the original AOUT and the AOUT_NG. Or am I missing something here? Best regards, ilmenator

Farbdisplays sind nicht nur aus den von dir schon genannten Gründen für mich nicht wirklich interessant :). Was meinst du mit "kurzerhand konvertieren"? Was genau musstest du tun? Und wahrscheinlich soll das "nach PIC GCC" heissen, oder? Oder bist du jetzt auf AVR umgestiegen ;D ? Ich habe mir vor langer Zeit an diesen Displays mal die Zähne ausgebissen und sie nicht zum Laufen gebracht - ich bin allerdings überzeugt davon, dass die nicht _alle_ kaputt gewesen sein können. Noone in the industry is going to use parts that do not have enough lifetime to survive the minimum guarantee for electrical appliances of one or two years that we have e.g. here in Europe. Vergiss es. Ich vermute mal, auch smash muss irgendeine Art von Buchhaltung machen. Auch Gebrauchtwaren sind von der Einfuhrumsatzsteuer nicht befreit, wenn sie von einem Händler bezogen werden. Hab mal Graphic LCDs aus USA bestellt. Zoll fällt keiner an, aber Einfuhrumsatzsteuer (19% auf die Summe aus Warenwert und Versandkosten, also auf das, was du insgesamt bezahlt hast). Bis 22 Euro oder so geht das frei durch, darüber kann es dir passieren, dass das Paket zum nächsten Zollamt geht und du nur eine Benachrichtigungskarte von der Post bekommst. Abholen dann beim Zoll und Entrichten der Gebühren in bar. Vorsicht bei Versand per UPS: die verlangen dafür, dass sie die Zollgebühren vorstrecken, eine Pauschale, die ziemlich hoch ist (Genaueres bei UPS im Netz) - dafür musst du nicht zum Zollamt, sondern der UPS-Mann bringt es trotzdem bis an deine Tür. Meine Erfahrung ist, dass etwa jede dritte oder vierte Sendung zollamtlich behandelt wird - also stichprobenartiges Öffnen der Sendung und dann Entscheidung, ob Gebühren fällig sind oder nicht. I would suggest connecting all inputs to the same core if possible. This makes the code manageable and maintainable, in case you want to do changes later on you probably only need to modify one core. If the second core only receives display update information it most probably does not need to be modified at all.
