Another option would be the Triad Midislave which is recent software and DIY hardware to turn your 64 into a MIDI synth module. You may be misled by first impressions if you think the MIDIbox SID is a "modification" of a C64. It's a whole new DIY hardware platform. Some people choose to use C64 cases to mount the new hardware in, which can lead to confusion. The only Commodore hardware inside the box is the SID itself, and occasionally a Commodore power supply.

If you can find the specs of the DAC, it'll likely tell you what format the digital audio stream is in. I have a hunch it'll be I2C rather than S/PDIF (Sony/Phillips ...).

And/or ALL or any combination of bus A, B, C and D in separate amounts? I've had a look at the PGA4311 data sheet and your doc, and I still can't figure out if a true 4x4 mix is possible on one board. I can see 1 into 4, or 4 into 1, but I can't see how 4 into 4 works with only 4 volume controls. Wouldn't that require 16 volume levels in a matrix configuration? Please excuse the extreme dimness of the question.
