  1. From a module (core, fm/sid, din, dout) it doesn't make much of a difference - they're all equally easy/hard. Those few SMD pins really aren't as much a problem as it is often believed. Go for the one you like the sound of more. Start with the basic version (no CS). If that works out for you and you enjoyed building it - build a CS afterwards.
  2. I like the direction in which this is going. Oh btw, whatever happened to mbTV? ;D
  3. That would have been /tilted/
  4. Yeah, but that doesn't help if your WinXP CD is not to be found ;)
  5. I wasn't implying Kubuntu isn't extremely cool - which it is. The installer just tends to (I found about 42,000,000 posts on forums from people with the same issue) screw up the MBR when installed parallel to XP. I think I should not post in this thread anymore ;)
  6. "Screw up" as in break. Completely. "Break. Completely" as in "I'm not even gonna ask you if you want me to make any changes to the MBR of a physically different harddrive, but just gonna go ahead... I'm done now. Oh, nothing boots anymore. Oh well."
  7. ewww eye-candy ;D This comment was made only to point out the following: A lot of the experience you have with any OS depends on your personal: * opinion * beliefs * taste * hardware * profession * demands * hair color * sort of underpants So please, please, please, use whatever OS you want and like best or dislike most, but don't turn this into another long-ass OS wars thread ;) Pretty please. Oh and don't install kubuntu parallel to a WinXP installation cuz it'll screw up the MBR.
  8. Hahaha, I guess you beat jimp to it ;D jaystainbrook: Whether you use detented or undetented encoders is really up to you. The detented ones basically have a clicky feeling and "snap" to values, which is really nice for discrete values (select a patch, scroll through the menu, ...), undetented ones do not have that feature and are hence used for continueous values (cutoff, resonance, ...). You can get detented ones, open them up and turn them into undetented ones pretty easily, so you can just get the ones Smash sells (get some extras, in case you destroy some) and de-detent them.
  9. el_cuc0, do as stryd_one says, he's the troubleshooting-master ;D Well, it's a pretty common problem and (w/o looking at the test results) pretty likely, but still: el_cuc0, do as stryd_one says, he's the troubleshooting-master ;D
  10. Congrats, subatomic! Nice build, I just love the orangish LCD, reminds me off my XP-30 ;D
  11. If you have a dollar to spare, I'd get some stuff and experiment a bit. I personally love play-doh like epoxy. For cutting a dremel is definitely better than sth design to drill holes, yes ;) Doesn't even have to be real Dremel. I'm very content with my 9€ clone. The bits suck, but the machine is nice. Google ;D

  13. [me=nILS Podewski]is waiting for a complete step-by-step how-To on the WIKI[/me] Sweet! I want one ;D
  14. Congrats pkniffer! Finally a project where you just *know* it's DIY :-)
  15. I'd say [enterYourNameHere] needs to download goattracker and just make a full-fledged SID test tune ;D
  16. (read: Surprise, surprise!)
  17. Sweeeet ;D This'll be fun.
  18. Getting half my house blown up kinda set the process of finishing the PCB back a couple of days. I'm back on it though!
  19. The best (as in completely working) SIDs I ever found came from an envelope, which came from Australia :-)
  20. Striddie, dunno if it helps you any, but I tend to "correct" tags on any post I read, too ;)
  21. They do in fact. The buttons used in the sidLive concept are MEC 3F with 16U caps iirc. In case someone is looking for these: http://mec.live.inlead.dk/home
  22. Cool! Welcome abord! ;) Depends on what version you'll build. 18F452 for the v1, 18F4685 for the v2. Depends on what Control Surface you build. If you have a full CS you can easily go without any patch editor. If you have a minimal CS you can still do everything without a patch editor, but it's a pain. If you don't have a CS at all, you'll need the patch editor ;) A lot. In fact so much, that you most likely want to build a v2. Just read the info on ucapps.de and the differences will bevome obvious. Just listening to the sample sounds should probably do the trick as well.
  23. Is there any particular reason that you didn't use a ground plane?

    OpenStomp

"The world's second open source digital guitar effects" just doesn't sound as good ;)
  25. Hang in there, people :-) This is taking me forever, I know, it's just that like most of you guys I don't have an infinty amount of time or money... Be patient, offer help, we'll get there ;D
