as far as I know there is only 1 way to make decent holes for faders - CNC milling, or get someone who is really good with working with metal. You can do it with a Dremmel cut off wheel, but personally speaking I can't get anything close to a professional job. Or you could drill lots of holes in a line and then file them out to a nice finish...

i can

if you can control all the knobs and buttons via midi it's going to be a pretty easy project in midibox terms. if you want more of a challenge - the only thing which might be difficult/impossible is the led UV meters. The leds could be done via the C interface, but you'll need midi feedback from the VST plugin/the SSL box if they are to be in sync properly. This bit will mean some programming, both for the LED feed back as well as the UV meters if it's possible

wow, what a totally cool place! It's almost worth me flying over there to finish a panel or 2! The setup looks like a labour or love rather than a straight up make me rich type business. It looks to me like this guy probably had the equipment already and wanted a way to bring a bit of cash in and help out lots of people who are into the same sort of things he is into.

Buttons, Rotary Encoders and Vector boards, oh my!
DavidBanner replied to miggyb's topic in MIDIbox SID
yup - that's right, and yes the one's with switches you push the shaft down check out smashTVs store on the web, or search the forums, lots of detailed data on suitable encoders when buying buttons you want MO - momentary, SP single pole - but double will be okay too. The mouser site isn't giving much away on the action - I've never seen the OFF-(ON) terminology before myself, but a google search should answer the question -
so that means you need to hit the books my son! start searching and reading, everything you need to know is on the site, but ppl round here aren't gonna do the work for you....

You're lucky! The function has been written for you already... But it could be a good oportunity to learn a bit about coding too. Check out some of the examples, especially the C stuff, which IMO is easier to get into than ASM. You never quite know what you want to do, until you realise what you can do...

you need to write a latching function....

wow! I'm double impressed! I've checked out your bit on the wiki, so my next question is can I grab the C to hack into my own creation? -

woah!!! you are running 6 displays - OMG! well done mate! how many cores? -
welcome to the board! i could tell you, but I'm not going to... :P think of this site like a crash course in electronics, with a custom midibox as the graduation certificate. you need to be able to answer the question yourself if you have any hope of completeing the project! grab a pen and paper and start drawing some diagrams, the rest will come from this site once you have some specific questions that you just can;t figure out using the site and the search on the forums we'll be here to help

hi George, Can I have a copy of that C code too please, it's similar to a function I want to impliment and could make for some easy cut & paste work ;)
-
is that TK's cousin? or has he finally done it and gone digital Tron style? :)
-
how else are you going to mount them? btw:you'll need a high speed drill (i.e. 33,000 rpm) and tungsten carbide drills

I'm pretty sure that the images don't count for the bandwidth - they (at least the way I add) are hosted off-site and your browser makes a request directly to other server....
-
mmm, that's an odd one! don's suppose you have a dremmel handy? you could mill out the holes to a more agreeable size (use googles and dust mask)

LMFAO!! Nice one Cimo - funniest and surrealest msg I've read for a long time!

the trouble with Paranoia is that just because you are Paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get get you! esp in OZ - police are a F***ing nightmare out there and they've all got guns

Mr Lif is from the states, so they can't exactly refuse him entry.... they can make life v difficult for you if you travel very easily... and Oz is especially bad for being a Police state

"The C Book" released in PDF Format
DavidBanner replied to stryd_one's topic in MIOS programming (C)
anyone with any spare kittens - send 'em my way ;) mmmmm, kittens -
it's the states you need to worry about. eg - Any reference to killing a president will get you an arrest warrent. given the state of paranoia today if you make enough of a stir with the tunes to get attention you could easily end up on a no-fly/no entry list... if you are really worried - do the project under another name. but the long and the short, if you come to the attention of any intelligence service they most likely will take a look at you, history etc and depending on what they find/how bored they are they might rake through your life. I think about 3%-10% of ppl charged with terrorism offences in the UK have been prosecuted, out of the original figure only 0.3% with terrrorism related offences, the rest - stuff they found when they went though every aspect of their life (tax, benefit fraud etc)...

I can't open the PDF properly - it's all white space.... I'd go for a LCD that is KS0107/KS0108 or HD61202 compatible, do that and you should be fine The DOUT Kits from SmashTV come with resistor arrays so you won't need to buy any additional ones. The LEDs look okay to me, as far as I know pretty much any LED (discounting big high powered or exotic ones) will do - someone please correct me if I'm wrong. You need to be careful about the amount of amps you are pulling if you are using lots of LEDs, but that's about it... If you are ordering kits from Smash you might want to grab the LEDs he sells (if he's still got stock).. The other thing of course is that LEDs are sooo cheap it's hardly gonna break the bank to grab a few and see if they work - don't be scared to experiment. I've ordered one of everything from some places (lit buttons esp) - sometimes it's the only way to really know how the product looks, feels and operates. good luck with your box

not to mention they need to do it in a vaccum
