  1. had a lot of love from the pump (again, to coin a phrase ;) ) - but braid or not, I've always had problems with multi-legged beasties... there always seems just enought solder stuck to the leg to lift the track given a good yank...
  2. all in all it's just another lego brick in the wall... P.S. that's just freudian enought to claim © on :)......
  3. to coin a phrase, my pleasure.... I hope so too, but don't worry about the so called "problems", they are "learning opportunities", especially round here, where you have the likes of, well pretty much everyone (I started to type a few names and realised it's pretty much every regular and irregular poster) is willing to take a bit of time to help out. I think you and me both stumbled upon one of the friendliest, most helpful and downright nicest corners of the web.. I'm planning to stay for a bit.... ;)
  4. btw: glad you've found the problem. hehehe, I know all about backwards components - smashTV pulled my project well and truely out of the mire because I put a cap in backwards....
  5. read the forums - lots of tips there!
  6. I've seen mentions that 9v is the ideal input, it's what's working for me anyways....
  7. yeah, you can use a common ground no probs... mmm, you're using ain64_din128_dout128_v2_0 right? next step I suggest is to test each input. Either make a test lead using 2 pin Female SIL if you've got one, or bare wires will do in a pinch. test each input to make sure they work - then go from there
  8. my pleasure... let's hope I'm right and you can on with the boxing. btw: I've found often these "problems" are blessings in disguise (ok, sometimes a very good disguise), they force you to poke around the application code and you start to get more of an idea what MIOS can do which leads to new ideas... good luck
  9. I've never built a MIDIBOX64E, so ppl pls correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't a MIDIBOX64E supposed to have 8 encoders and 8 buttons?? If so, I'm guessing you haven't configured the software to tell it which DINs are buttons and which are encoders. Try uploading a test app like ain64_din128_dout128_v2_0.zip from http://www.ucapps.de/mios/ain64_din128_dout128_v2_0.zip others at: http://www.ucapps.de/mios_download.html then I'd connect 1 module at a time, test everything, then connect the next module, test etc etc
  10. mixer or amp?
  11. I've used common Vs for Leds etc, I haven't mixed and matched between boards - it could make sense to share a Vs from the DOUT for all the Leds, and then use a common Vs from the DIN for the buttons. It might make for easier debugging if problems arise.
  12. other way round. see: http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp/mbhp_doutx4_32leds.pdf yes and no if you are using boards from SmashTV - there is a resistor matrix that u solder to the pcb.
  13. AC, good points, although I do have a problem with Apple on a few levels. They are running a monopolist policy - look at what they did with Logic. They won't allow anyone else to run OSX (legally). Their advertising campaigns are misleading, using people like Jim Henson on their advertising to buy kudos and "warm fuzzy" appeal while blatently lying to people about their products. Apple have massive problems with their laptops at the moment; hardware issues on the MB with RAM, USB problems and the oh-so famous overheating problem that they have release a patch for, won't tell anyone what the patch does and once it's run the laptop runs cooler and a lot slower - mmm, wonder what they did there! I'm guessing they won't apply the patch to new machines so they can legally still claim near max CPU rates... The other kicker about Apple/OSx etc is that I can build a PC with the same spec as the Mac, for lots cheaper - stick OSX on it and it will run a lot faster! Once you remove all the copy protection firmware apple have chipped into their systems it runs much better.... and copy protection is still there on Macs - ever seen what happens to your protools drive if iLock thinks you are running cracked TDM??? OUCH!! :o ever run 2 copies of Photoshop with the same serial on a Network? I'll run whatever gives me the most bang for my buck - I pay for quality not a brand name. I'll always choose PC (and I have a nice choice of manufacturers to choose from, so who ever is best price vs quality at the time is my choice) over Apple for this reason. That said I have and still do own Macs - they have their uses - and no, I'm not using it for a door stop, before someone chimes in ;) btw: anyone know a linux replacement for Cubase SX?
  14. it's a chicken and egg type thing windows has turned into bloatware along with a lot of other MS programs (they are not the only culprits, Norton Antivirus is a great way to cripple a machine). When was the last time they added a new feature to Word that is actually useful? maybe 5 or 6 years ago, possibly 8, the new stuff does nothing but irritate like adding a date on to the end of a date I just typed. But MS and the rest of 'em need to release new versions every year, and they tend to tack the bells and whistles on the top which makes everything bigger, use more ram, run slower as well as throw up bugs which then need patching. Now when you are a company like MS and you are used to releasing "patches" of 600mb at a time (that's a new release not a patch!), you are also developing for machines at the top end with all the fancy new hardware, keeping in mind Vista will be around for years as these faster machines, fancy video cards penitrate the market. It also is the main way to sell the product, the wow factor. It's also a lot easy and quicker to write this way than to re-write all the code in a super fast super slick way. Let's face it, if you want that sort of thing you'll probably be running Linux and some opensource apps. Then of course the retailers - mmmm, let me see; they get to push Vista at a profit and then we get to sell ppl new machines either right there and then or when they realise Vista has made their old machine pretty much unusable. I can see why Vista makes lots of sense to them.... And for me - he's what I'll do. I'll hang onto XP till I am forced over by a killer app. By that time there will be lots of info on the net on how to remove all the bells and whistles, that you don't need for audio and lots of forum posts to search when things go wrong. When I build a new XP machine I always spend hours turning stuff off, like the 1 second fade between windows and tweaking the system. Vista will be no different, just unfamiliar and buggy especially in niche apps like music while we go through what is essentially a MS extended testing and debugging phase of development.
  15. hey snorkman, love the handle btw! I'm sure I've seen someone else describe how to do it in the forums - a bit of searching should short it out "button shift" or something similar should flush it out. the way I'd approach it is to write a function in C with some IFs in there You could either have a button set as a toggle - i.e. push 1 time for bank a, again for bank b, again bank a etc etc - to do this you set a variable set and toggle the value on each push of the select button or you could do an test so if the select button is held down in means bank b, bank a if it's not btw: don't be shy about posting a new thread in the forums - lots of very nice ppl around here...
  16. no, I'm don't have a Wii and I'm in the same boat as you - way too many other projects that need finishing...
  17. me too, used babelfish....
  18. you didn't check the link?? if you are interesting in miding your wii you should.....
  19. ouch! look at those prices!! I'm assuming they represent value for money, but I can't see how from the pics (and I only read english) can you pls give the low down?
  20. yay! ;D best thing that happened today
  21. wow - it's not shy.... memory leaks just keep eating memory till it's gone or someone stops it....
  22. i'm guessing he means a passively cooled PC (i.e. heatsinks but no fans). Have you got some clever heatpipe arrangement running to the rack and using that as heatsink in mind? if so, please do share....
  23. me too! please share!
  24. memory hole or memory leak problems?
  25. lol, getting ripped off by record companies is part and parcel of the business. I would love 1 year, just 1 year of no legal bollocks, arguments and people trying to take the piss.... what was talking about are people out and out copying my music - as a result no-one gets to have copies of anything before it's released and only a select few ppl even get to hear the tracks before release...
