They come in packs of 25? We only get 20 maximum over here, that and a huge amount of tax.

LOL, good thread. I will be directing a friend of mine here as he was discussing curtis filtes and his SH-101 lastnight, lol

I also ordered some SMT IC's in error. SOme of the 512k bank stick IC's, they look very tricky to solder, the pads may even be underneath if I remember correctly!

Not seriously knocking myself... Just had a real fore-head slapping moment and thought i'd dhare it here for your amusement. I've spent many hours trouble shooting to this and was nearly at the point of unsoldering everything and starting again stage by stage! Had a coupel of small "glitches" on this one. Managed to solder one of the 40 pin IC sockets in with the leg bent over; The only way of gettign it out was to cut it up and desolder a few legs at a time. (my brother used to have a soldering iron with a long flat knife edge balde that would have been perfect for this... Could I find it at the time?.. No). Second one was when I managed to pull one of the pads off my LCD... I thought i'd be needing a replacement but managed to solder a wire on to the trace on the back of the PCB and secured it with gaffer tape... I was quite impressed by this fix but the LCD will be replaced eventually.

Just wanted to post discretely in here that I think I may be stupid! Spent months trying to find the fault on my mb-6582 CS that was somehow triggering two or more different buttons at once when pressing just one button. Swapped out a load of diodes along the particular track, reconnected the control surface 3 times, hours of trouble shooting and finally decided that it would be best to have them connected va headers and IDC connectors. When I was soldering the connection I had a realisation and think i've found the problem... R39 on the baseboard is in the wrong way! I'm guessing that this means that rather than all pins on JD 5 being pulled to ground via a resistor (and each other), they've been just pulled together through the resistor... Doh! Going to try and desolder and rotate the resistor network later tonight and fingers crossed that I've not fried anything! Hopefully I'm one step closer to getting this finished now.

IS there a buld being organised for roumers, will Smash be stocking them in his store? I'm wondering if we could get them custom milled in China somewhere and mailed out, alternatively, would DW be willing to put his machine shop into use and mill us some roumers.

Shipped as airmail, small packet and from the UK, I'm sure they'll be with you soon.

: / My apologies, i read the wrong line in my spreadsheet. I meant Tron77 lives in The Netherlands. Any news on your knobs Tron77? G

Please bear with it. Yours went out a week ago last Saturday so I wouldhave thought they'd have arrived by now. The envelopes do have a return address so should arrive back with me if they've had problems delivering them. Is anybody else still missing knobs? Jimh54 also lives in the Netherlands and hasn't posted that he has his so maybe the post is just being crap!

I'm thinking £50 is a bit much, but if it happens to work i'd be very pleased with it. The fact that he hasn't had it checked out could mean it's an easy fix (I'm suspicious of a lot of people selling things on ebay as "possible quick fix") as they could well have been checked out and found to be b*ll*x*d so they've been chucked on ebay. The £50 was just a figure pulled out of the air when I asked for some idea of how much he wants for it. Apparently he payed £200 for it a few years ago. What I offer him will depend on condition, whether it's flight cased and if it has the cartridges. I also have no idea whether it's a MK1 or MK11. If it's not any good then I can always stick it on ebay as spares or repairs so would probably be able to get most of my money back for it anyway. E

I've been offered a none working DX7 for "around £50" (which is abou 50EUR in today's economy). The fault is that it doesn't power on but it hasn't been looked at or a repair attempted so hopefully could just be a dodgy fuse or power connector. What do I need to look out for when I look at this synth and decide if I want to buy it. Are there any known issues that could cause this fault. More importantly, is this a fair price for it? Eddie

LOL, wrong thread!

Could splined knobs not be modified to fit D-shaft encoders, or maybe the encoders could be modified???

Any ideas on what effect the tolerance would have on the sound? Would the 5% add a bit of dirt? A relay bulk would be appreciated, it makes things a lot easier (maybe not for you tho!)

Count me in, I need some in red for my MB-6582 and some in green for my sequencer.

Count me in.... again :D

Fnaaaar fnaar. :P

Was wondering if there's a way to solder them to a board.... otherwise, maybe super-glueJB weld? I'm trying to find a way of connecting the PCBS for the elektor vocoder.... The plugs/sockets they used are a bit hard to find (read that as I've not found them anywhere!)
-
Sorry for the delay, things have been a bit hectic at home and the bad weather hasn't helped! I posted out the last of the knobs on Saturday so they should all be on the way to you now. E

Oi... Get back off topic :P

Well my favourite unit of measurement has to be the "ish" ... so universal!
