  1. Take a look at the resisor arrays (haven't got time to look up the part number) and check they are in the right way. I had similar problems due to soldering on in the worng way. Pin 1 on the resistor (marked with a dot) should be in the square hole
  2. Whereabouts are you based? I'm eyeing up some red LCDs in the states... $25 for the display and $16 postage. Very expensive, but the only place that I've found.
  3. I'm only doing it because the girls love a man who can use a soldering iron.
  4. Isn't there a condition called " electricians teeth" related to stripping too much wire... IE a notch in the front teeth? It does seem the easiest way to strip wire though.
  5. So can we have Flushy back? :) Missing being able to use the chat whilst at work.
  6. Wow... Spaghetti Junction! Not sure if troubleshooting would be easy or hard on this thing. Any chance that you could post the link for this?
  7. I will be starting Albs Knob order 5 very soon. I've had a lot going on at home recently so didn't think it was fair to start another order when I didn't have the time to commit. Keep you eyes open for the next couple of weeks and I'll update. Personally I think a wiki page listing all the ongoing bulk orders would be a good idea. I suggested it a while back but was advised not to do it for some reason (can't remember why). It'd probab;y be too dangerous as everybody would be putting in a glabal "I'm in"!
  8. Did I miss somebody being whiny and gutless? ... Damn! I know it seems like a bit of a daft thread, but I want to get a collection of really good demo samples together as I think it'd be usefull and may get more people interested in DIY synths that they would ahev otherwise disregarded.
  9. and virtue is a grace.. and Grace is a little girl who doesn't wash her face. /Goblinz scuttles away.
  10. I don't think i've explained myself correctly here, probably shouldn't have used the word "demo"... I'm not talking external effects. I mean things like the bassline demos that have been done fo MB-SID, the sound samples on the wiki, several x0xb0x clips that have been flying about with the various modifications to get extra overdrive. Not focussed on music as such, moreso the sounds that the thing can make... Whenever somebody wants to demonstrate a particular bit of their synth they try to make it sound as dirty as hell. When a synth is put in to music or external effects, it becomes difficult ot hear the raw sound from it, you don't get chance to here the un-adulterated synth play.
  11. I have various MP3's on my computer which are samples of synths and modifications... I love listening to them (several times in a row sometimes)! I find just these small snippets as enjoyable as a whole finnished off song song because you actually get to really hear the synth play. Does anybody else do this? My favourites are some of the MB-SID baseline demos and some x0xb0x distortion mod samples. I'll be posting links to some of my favourites when I get round to tracking down the original sources. Can people please post their favourites here too. http://www.acidvoice.com/images/x0ximages/x0x_distortion_1.mp3 - Really liking this one, Shows how bitey the x0xb0x can be with mods! (From acidvoice's x0xb0x with custom mod) http://www.ucapps.de/mp3/midibox_sid/mbsidv2_bassline_demo5.mp3 - Bassline number 5 - One of the mp3's I play to people when I'm trying to persuade them that the heap of electronics on my desk isn't going to sound like a C64. Nice and long too :) G
  12. Thanks for this, I have 80 odd games sat in the cupboard which I want to get going again :D is this strange behaviour... wanting to use an old C64 for playing games on? I'm based in Harrogate, Yorkshire.
  13. I fried my power supply! Does anybody in the Uk have a spare one that they would be willing to sell me. I thought I'd ask here before getting one from ebay. Also.... I took my c64 to pieces when I was a kid because I thought it was broken... Found out a few weeks ago that it was the PSU that was broken ... Doh! I have a lot of games and would like to get playing them again. Does anybody have a working "new" style C64 and data-cassette thingy that they'd be willing to part with? I don't need to SID chip as I still have the 8580 from my old one. Thanks, Eddie
  14. Was just going to use mine to keep my books propped up! Building all this equipment and I haven't a clue how to use it! Midibox masterclass anyone?
  15. I do sign the petitions that I support, but I'm beginning to think they don't do anything. Everytime one closes, Number 10 sends out an email saying that they've recieved the petition but they are still going ahead with the legislation because it benefits you in whatever way. I think it's just a way of the government collecting emails addresses for people who oppose their ideas so they can tell them why what they are doing is good for them. Nothing gets done anymore, we just sat down and took the smoking ban. Years ago you would have 1000s of students and other people out on the streets protesting, making sure that they had a presence and the media and government could see how pissed off people were. Nowadays people log on to the internet and put their email in a box... I don't think it'll get anything resolved. Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go and have shown my support and signed the petition, but I've signed too many of these things to think that they are worth more than the ascii file they are written on.
  16. Only problem is that the government seem to take no notice of these petitions. All they seem to do is collect the email addresses adn then the PM sends out an email to "Justify" why they are making the changes. What the need is a sound limiter on the house of commons... Make em all whisper rather than shout. They should stop them from smoking in there too.
  17. Not much difference. The one mentioned earlier can be used as a function generator and as a power supply too.
  18. I may be getting a vocoder board fabbed at somepoint this year so think I'll add a scope board in at the same time if there's room so I can see it working. People should be aware that they'll need to use mains voltage to feed the transformer, something that I'm a little bit wary of myself. Another point is that the listed BOm comes to $110 + the cost of the board and encloure... A second hand scope could be bought of ebay for less than this.
  19. You want knobs... I can get you knobs.... Knob bulk order number 5 will be taking palce soon.
  20. Dirts good... What's wrong with dirt?
  21. I'll take the other pack of liquid gaffer tape JB weld. I need to sort out the other bits and pieces with you as well at some point. I'm not very busy in February so could probably pop across if you're around. E
  22. I wonder if this could be used to make some sort of sampler????
  23. I wonder if that power supply scheme could be useful for other midibox hardware that requires +12 /-12 V ???? Do we have the numbers to get some PCB's made up?
